Can Doctors In Tn Prescribe Buprenorphine/subutex For Pain?
UpdatedI need to find a doctor to prescribe subutex for pain. Can Doctors in TN prescribe it for pain? If so, what doctors in middle TN do prescribe it for pain? I was on pain pills for years. They don't help any more. Only subutex does. Please help. I'm desperate.

Hello, Robin! How are you?
Yes, any doctor can prescribe it for pain. However, since it is a controlled substance, if you require it on a long-term ongoing basis for the treatment of chronic pain, you'll most likely need to see a pain management specialist.
The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
But you'll have to set up an appointment with a doctor, without asking them up front what they will or will not prescribe. When you ask about something like that, they tend to view you as being drug seeking.
Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area?
To answer your question; New Tennessee law effective July 1, 2015 states the drug cannot be prescribed for pain..period..Suboxone can only be used for its FDA approved indication which is opioid dependency.. Only in the form of the BUTRANS patch can it be prescribed for pain..Also subutex can only be prescribed for pregnant females, nursing females, or documented allergic reaction which needs to be provided in a letter from an Emergency Room or a specialist like a GI doctor if the person is being treated for Hep C. No Longer can PA's and NP's write it for pain and it is because of this that the law was passed which now hurts the PPL who truly used 8-16 mg/ day to come off opioids that were serious......Also now in TN if you need to be on more than 16 mg day/ Suboxone you need to see an Addiction Medicine Doctor( Addictionologist) for a consult and then you may return to your regular prescriber..This is the law, any physicians operating outside of this law probably won't be your doctor for long....Best wishes in your Recovery!!
Well that's not good news. Helpful. But not good. I wish the people making the laws had to live in the shoes of a person that has lived their whole life in pain. Chronic pain equals a big fat zero for quality of life. And I mean absolutely ZERO!!!! Years flat on my back. I WILL NOT GO BACK TO "LIVING" ON MY BACK!!!!! I MIGHT AS WELL HAVE BEEN DEAD!!!!
No doctor can prescribe buprenorphine, suboxone, etc. strictly for pain because it does not have FDA approval as a pain drug, only as a drug to detox you from narcotics. I got this straight from the brand name manufacturer. Doctors know it helps pain, but without being on a 'suboxone program', contract, monthly u/a's, for drug abuse treatment, a doctor can lose their license for prescribing it strictly for pain.
Knoxville. There are 3 (I'm pretty sure) different clinics here now. Just google methadone treatment in Knox!

In Connecticut ANY DOCTOR can prescribe Buprenorphine for pain but only a few specialized Doctors can prescribe this if its going to be used to treat a Opioid addiction / dependency
Re: Robin (# 3)
If u can get a Dr to write a statement saying that u are allergic to suboxone they will write you the Tex but it's so hard to find a Dr where I live to write one for you. I haven't found one yet.
I can't take suboxone as they make me sick, give me headaches and make me depressed. What can I do? Does anyone know of a Dr that will give prescriptions for subutex/buprenorphine?
Any Drs who prescribe methadone in Kissimmee, Florida??? And who will take Magellan/medicaid? No clinics too much money. Thank you...

Re: Leona (# 5)
Epidurals are not fda approved but pain clinics will drop u if u refuse to let them do a procedure that could easily cripple u for life. But first they get u hooked on the maximum amount of pain meds before they trap u into a few thousand dollar procedure. This info came from an anesthesiologist's publication. The people who arent afraid of chronic pain because they dont really have chronic pain will go ahead and let them do the procedures so they can continue to get their meds to sell on the street. If the government would research the files of these patients they would see drs also do way more than they should and are committing insurance fraud. Not to mention. The opioid epidemic is because of these drs who keep prescribing meds to anyone who lets them continue to do these expensive procedures that suppose to give u relief by themselves. Why do they give them both?
Re: Sameoldbs (# 8)
The closest place is Knoxville and it was DRD then changed to Behavior Health same company different locations around Knoxville.
Why would you want that? Withdrawals are going to be AWFUL when you try to quit the subs.

Vote blue.
These laws are insane.
Don’t go to an addiction doctor if you don’t have an addiction, once that is in your records they won’t give you a controlled substance for anything ever again.
