C5,6,7, Lyrica 150, Nerve Pain

Taking 150 mg Lyrica at night for arm radioculpathy due to c5, 6, 7 herniated discs in neck. Hard to type, sorry. Hands are week. Started med on Dec. 19 so on a little over a month. My nerve pain is better, arms are not falling asleep as much. Still have deep pain in discs. Live with it, but have been offered surgery. Idk, it seems surgery may not be a guaranteed fix...sucks. Lots of belly bloat on Lyrica. I drink lots of lemons n limes in my water to flush out my body. I've noticed that when I don't eat, I'm not hungry, but when I start eating, I could eat a whole Thanksgiving Turkey myself! I'm staying very aware of portion control and how my body reacts. I take 1 Aleve 12 hr Arthritis Pill in am for the day. Good results. Use Lidocane Patches prn
My whole life has changed since 2010 Cervical Disc Disease in my neck. I keep going! Stay positive. Constantly altering my needs to satisfy my wants I guess. Crap. Do I get the surgery or not? Anyone have advice? Peace and goodwill to all.

Hello, Nanc! How are you? I'm so very sorry that you're in pain.

Any type of back surgery is always iffy, to be honest. Some people do get relief, but some people don't and just end up more miserable.

What I would suggest, before resorting to the surgery is to see another doctor or two for other opinions. Get more professional input to see whether or not it would really help!

As to the Lyrica, you're on the right track. Portion control is important, because it can cause weight gain and many people get rather out of control, while taking it. Other possible side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness and dry mouth.

Does anyone else have any advice to add?

My rule on surgery is if you can't open the refrigerator door, it's time for surgery. No kidding. I just had my 4th spine surgery (cervical laminoplasty this time) and now my left hand is dead but my arm(s) going to sleep all the time have stopped. My neck is super sore and I can feel a screw sticking out which hurts all the time. 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other right now. In my opinion it has to get really bad to go under the knife, and make sure you have a surgeon who is willing to stick with you if he/she screws up.

Ty for your reply. This sucks. I'm on day two of just taking one 75 mil of lyrics. The side effects if 2 a day for two months was too much for me. I've been peeing alot. The water retention was over the top. I've had a headache/nausea now. Seeing Dr. Tomorrow. Idk. Just gotta get off lyrica. I like the otc Aleve for Arthritis. 3 hot baths a day help. Ty again.

Went off Lyrica a month ago. Holding off on surgery. Mobility in left arm/hand less than desirable. No pills are going to fix me. Been to 7 chiropractor visits in past two weeks. Idk, going another week and then evaluate. I'm super sore from the adjustments. Just using Advil and Muscle Relaxer and lidocane patches for pain. I have a feeling tomorrow will be ok, but it's a long road. I keep modifying my life as much as possible. I can't complain really in spite of it all. Stay blessed and keep on keeping on!

My last day of work was June 7. Only been working two days a week for two years because of pain, but it was my little job. Yep, my body said no more. I walk very slow now, my arms shake and are weak and sore. Can only lay down 2/3 hrs at a time. Headaches. Very sharp pain at discs and tender to touch. Feels like I'm bruised from the inside of my neck and collarbone outward. I can only drive short distance or be out of the house for two hours. Thankful Walgreens and grocery store are less than a mile. I am unstable if I move to quick. Takes me all day to just get dressed, eat, basic needs, scoot around the house,etc. I feel comfortable tho if someone accompanies me outside the house and I can wear my cervical collar. My surgery is Aug 6, 2015. I've got a care plan and am in good spirits regardless. Thankful for all my blessings to come. Current rx 50mg Tramadol 3x day with 2, 500mg Tylenol. Tizanidine 4 mg 2 xday, 40 mg Celexa 1xday. Prn Lidoderm Patches. Just wanted to share my update as its been a long winding road!

I have to ask....you are not given pain killers for your pain? it sounds just horrible! I am so sorry that you are living with pain like that. I have horrendous pain from RA and intestinal disorder. I am on pain killers (I hate it but it helps me live) and am working with the Lyrica. How are things going for you?

Ty for you kind words. I just take 150mg Tramadol a day w otc Tylenol for pain. I'm patiently waiting for Aug 6 3 level fusion. Homebound now. My spirit is good. I hope you feel peaceful today.
