is hydroco/apap 5-325 mg stronger than BUTALBITAL, ACETAMINOPHEN, CAFFEINE, AND CODEINE tablets i have BUTALBITAL, ACETAMINOPHEN, CAFFEINE, AND CODEINE tablets for migraine headaches. I had a very bad fall and hurt my arm, shoulder and knee. they gave me hydroco/apap 5-325 mg for the pain. Which of the two is stronger for pain relief? ## Hello, Ann! How are you? Codeine is actually very weak, so for that type of pain, you'll most likely be better off with the Hydrocodone that they've prescribed, it is much stronger and better able to handle the pain from an injury, such as that which occurred due to your fall. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is ...
3 REPLIES UpdatedCan you mix Butalbitals with Suboxone? ## Based on my research, there are moderately unsafe interactions found between Buprenorphine and Butalbital. (Buprenorphine is one of the two ingredients found in Suboxone). The drug interaction guidelines note the following: Coadministration with drugs that are inducers of CYP450 3A4 may decrease the plasma concentrations and efficacy of Buprenorphine, which is metabolized in the liver by the isoenzyme. In addition, some of these inducers (anticonvulsants and barbiturates) may have additive central nervous system-depressant effects with Buprenorphine. I hope this info helps! Please post back if you have any other questions or comments to add. ## I have been on subs for 5 years and the whole time I been on it I have been taking fioricet.of course ...
27 REPLIES UpdatedThis is generic Fioricet (Butalbital 325mg / Acetaminophen 50mg / Caffeine 40mg) pain medication prescribed for severe migraine and sinus headaches. It has been around for decades. It is not an opiate and this is not considered a "scheduled medication", (yet, the brand name of this medication "Fiorinal" IS labeled a schedule III controlled drug). It may cause drowsiness and it can be habit forming. (Photo here: Pill Image) ## Thank you for providing such a thorough pill identification, description and image for reference. For additional verification, I also wanted to add that this pill is reportedly manufactured by Alvogen Inc. and carries a National Drug Code of 47781-0536. Does anyone here have feedback on how well this works for migraine and/or headache relief? From w...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI took one of my wife headache pills on sat It has 50 mg of butalbitaland took a drug test monday will i pass ## I took the drug test Tuesday ## If they check for Barbiturates, it will most likely be detected, because Butalbital can be detected in urine for approximately 7 days after last dosing. Learn more drug testing details here. What was the test for? Do you know what type of test they did? ## Did you pass the drug screening. I did the same thing and it was only one pill.
3 REPLIES UpdatedHow long does it take for the pain from a bad migraine to go away? I've been taking the pills for 3 days and I still have my bad migraine. ## Hello, Char! How are you? I am so sorry about the migraine. It should have helped by now, if it was going to do so. As detailed by the NIH, these types of medication usually start to work within 15 to 20 minutes of taking them, so relief should be felt soon after. It might be time to explore other migraine relief options, such as different medications. Dilaudid is often used by hospital ERs to treat them. Have you ever tried it? It's an idea you can discuss with your doctor, anyway. The FDA does warn that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, and constipation. ## Char, ...
7 REPLIES UpdatedButalbital/Apap/Caffeine Tablets for tension headaches ## For more info on this drug check out the page on Acetaminophen + Butalbital + Caffeine, it is the same drug. Thank You. ## What is Butalbital used for and is it also known as a downer? ## What is Butalbital? I'm not understanding what this drug does? ## I am 49 years old, I have had 3 heart attacks, 5 stents, open heart and 5 bypasses. I have panic attacks. And I am on a lot of medication. The doctor gives me tramadol twice a day and butalbital/apap/caffeine four times a day but I only take it at bedtime. Is this ok or should I take it more often? I have headaches a lot but I don't want to sleep all the time. Thank you. ## I have constant headaches that don't go away. I was recently given this drug to take 1 pill per ...
13 REPLIES Updatedmy primary dr prescirbed the "butal acet caff" one in Dec 2013 & then my nuerologist said it had aspirin in it so she gave me the "butalbital apap caffeine" today jan 2014 I take coumadin & my blood work has been messed up since dec. anyone know what is the difference between them ## There is no difference between the two you listed, APAP is just medical speak for Acetaminophen, which is what the acet stands for, not Aspirin as the neurologist thought. As to your blood work, what do you mean by messed up? Is your INR fluctuating greatly? ## I have had 3 cervical fusions for a farm injury that resulted in chronic Migraines. The Butalbital with aspirin (ASA) works exponentially better for me than version with acetaminophen.
2 REPLIES UpdatedAfter our 20th meeting with a different neurologist yesterday we came away with absolutely no treatment. The only thing that helps my son with his migraine is butalbital with codeine. The neurologist is no longer prescribing this and suggests that he take some aspirin. Last week he had the worst migraine he had ever had in his life and had fallen several times, was slurring his words and could not speak. I found him on the floor on the back porch where he had been for about 2 hours. The doctor sent him to get Act. Nothing showed such as a bleed or an aneurysm. I don't know where else to turn for him. The neurologist yesterday said to go to Johns Hopkins or the Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. At that time he asked us to leave at 9. To return or not to return. He said he was not t...
19 REPLIES UpdatedIs there a difference between the white tablets- WESTWARD 785 and the green capsules that say Lannett 1552 on them? Butalbital/aspirin/caffeine- 40/325/50 - I take 2 tablets and my headache goes away, the green capsules two of them and I throw up, so I'm scared to take them. Butalbital is discontinued anyhow, so now I have nothing to take for a headache. Any alternative that hasn't been discontinued out there as effective as Westward 785 white tablets are? Thanks. ## Hello, Debbie! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you've been having. There are two possible reasons that the capsules might have made you ill, though the tablets did not. The first is due to how fast the medication hits your stomach, when you take the tablets, you have to digest them with stomac...
14 REPLIES Updatedcan any medication non-prescribed or other prescriptions not containing butalbital come back positive for butalbital in urine? ## I'd like to know the same thing because I'm prescribed Naproxen and take it regularly for my hips and back. I read somewhere that Naproxen can cause a false positive....
1 REPLY UpdatedAre these two the same? One says butalbital/acetaminophen/caff tabs the other says but/apap/caf codeine the first one in a pill white round v on one side 3220 on other side the next one is a cap. Blue and white with 3220 on the white part ## Hi Bri, From what I could gather, the blue and white capsule marked with WATSON on the blue half and 3220 on the white half, reportedly contains 325mgs of Acetaminophen + 50mg of Butalbital + 40mg of Caffeine + 30mg of Codeine. The other pill you mentioned with a marking of V 3220 doesn't seem to exist when I go to look it up. However I did come across a very similar white round pill imprinted with a V on one side and 2355 on the other. This particular tablet contains 325mgs of Acetaminophen + 50mg of Butalbital + 40mg of Caffeine; but does NOT ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI am 80 years old and use oxycodone very sparingly for neuropathy. To help prevent possible dependency I usually take one 5mg oxycodone about four hours apart. I weigh 210 pounds and my prescription allows two 5mg pills every six hours, but that dose clouds my thinking even though it does manage pain better. I usually get by with taking one 5mg oxycodone pill no more than three times each day beginning from about 10am. Getting up each morning is the most difficult; If I take two 325mg Butalbital tablets upon arising I seem to get a little boost, so that I can function enough to get going without too much discomfort. I don't start taking Oxycodone until after breakfast, at least two to three hours after getting up. Only on a rare occasion, where I must be very active through the day ...
5 REPLIES UpdatedI have taken 3 doses of Butalbital Acetaminophen Caffeine (50-325-40) within the last 9 hours. My last one being an hour ago. Is it safe to have a few margaritas? ## According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), alcohol has a high interaction potential with acetaminophen and butalbital. They go on to note that taking this combination together is not recommend and may result in dangerous side effects including but not limited to the following: Slowing down your nervous system, liver damage, loss of balance, dizziness, slurred speech, feeling confused, experiencing changes in mental awareness, abdominal pain, having chills, fevers, yellow skin or itchy skin, dark urine or dark-colored stools. You can also cross-reference this by visiting the web...
1 REPLY UpdatedI took butalbital / apap / caffeine (50-325-40mg) on Saturday and had a drug test today. Will it show up or how long does it take to leave the system? ## There are 2 types of Firoicet. One has CODEINE... one does not. The one without codeine typically is a WHITE tablet... While the name brand full pill is a grey blue red capsule with CODEINE written on it. ## I took butalbital a month ago and have a hair follicle Monday. Will I be positive that day?
2 REPLIES UpdatedIs there a replacement for butalbital/aspirin/caffeine out there 50/325/50? It was the combo of the drug that worked for me. ## Hi Debbie, I know that you can certainly find Aspirin and Caffeine on there own OTC, but as far as Butalbital is concerned, I think you may have to talk with your doctor or pharmacist about other drugs in the same class of "Barbiturates" (such as Phenobarbital). This combination of meds is most commonly used for treating tension headaches and mild pain relief, but I believe it has a few other uses as well. However, depending on what you plan on using it for, there are plenty of other natural alternatives that are well worth trying in my opinion. If you could please post back with any additional details on what you're using it for, I'd be more th...
5 REPLIES UpdatedI have been on Oxycodone/Acetaminophen 10-325MG, taking 4 daily for about a year for back problems. Recently I ran out for a couple of days and have been feeling like I am going through detox. My doctor has been out of office until tomorrow. My wife has a script of Butalbital/Acetaminophen/Caffeine/Codeine 50-300-40-30. Could I take one of these to take the edge off until tomorrow? ## The closest ingredient related is the Codeine, but it is much weaker than Oxycodone, it is a very mild opiate. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Withdrawal symptoms can be normal, if you run out of such a medication early. In the future, if possible, it would be best to schedule doctor...
2 REPLIES UpdatedMonday I took a drug test for an employer, when the lab called me they said I had tested positive for marijuana. that's odd, im a full time college student who doesn't drink or smoke. when I tried to explain my situation to the doctor he just hung up on me. what could have caused me to fail with only <1% in my system? *Note I take: topirmate every night, butalbital occasionally when needed, and that morning I took 4 ibuprofen, drank an energy drink and ate a granola bar. PS it was an oral swab. (all of these medications are perscibed by my doctor except the ibuprofen that's recommended by her) ## Hi I'm two months pregnant and just had my lab work done.. when I went back to the doctor for my results she said she also say marijuana in my system but she was already inf...
2 REPLIES UpdatedHi, my name is kelly. My doctor told me to take butal for my headaches and when I looked it up it's saying it's not for headaches at all. It's for people who have add and other issues. ## Hello, Kelly! How are you? No, Butalbital is a barbiturate that is commonly combined with other medications, such as the Acetaminophen and Caffeine in this medication, to treat migraines and tension headaches. The name brand for it is Fioricet. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, insomnia and nervousness. I'm not sure what you were reading. Where did you look it up? ## I am surprised that nobody has mentioned Imitrex for migraines. I used it in the past, when I was having multiple migraines every week. Thankfully they're down to one every ...
2 REPLIES Updatedbutalbital-acetaminophen-caff Oral ## I took one Brutal/acetamn/cf 50-325-40-tab 4 days prior to a drug test and both were inconclusive. Going back tomorrow for a urine test. How long will it stay in my body? I took it for a headache. Thank you.
