Hi,
I recently started taking zoloft but I'm taking 45mgs of liquid methadone, the pharmacist told me to take half of my zoloft which would be 25mgs cuz my doctor prescribed me 50mgs of zoloft. So I noticed that I feel different, having a irregular heartbeat it's getting better as time passes, and I looked up the interactions between the two. There is an interactive chemistry between the two I noticed some people are fine taking the 2 but everybody's different cuz i have hyperglyceridemia, so is there anyone that has any advice or input? I definitely am going to stop taking the zoloft. But if anyone has any info or kinda similar situation plz let me knw.
Hi Sumar,
According to various drug-interaction-checkers online, there are interactions listed between the following drug combinations that you should be aware of:
Buspar + Methadone; taking these two drugs together usually aren't recommended since it can reportedly increase your risk of certain side effects such as confusion, dizziness, lack of coordination, sleepiness, lightheadedness, and drowsiness.
Buspar + Zoloft; taking these two drugs together can reportedly increase your risk of developing serotonin syndrome. A condition which may present a number of serious side effects, including death.
Methadone + Zoloft; taking these two drugs together can reportedly increase your risk of developing potentially life-threatening abnormal heart rhythms, palpitations, lightheadedness, dizziness, difficulty breathing, fainting, etc...just to name a few.
You and your doctor may be able to work together on ways to minimize these risk factors, such as changing dosages and/or frequency of use upon going from one drug to another. But in my opinion it would be vital that you research interactions yourself in order to be able to explain these concerns to your doctor in a way that he/she will understand. It's a shame that more doctors don't take the time to look up possible interactions before prescribing multiple drugs at once. Interactions are probably part of the reason why there are so many prescription-related deaths around the world.
Hope this helps!
