Bupropion Causing Decreased Sex Drive?

I started taking Bupropion about three years ago (started on 150mg) for anxiety issues. I'd previously tried Abilify, but felt that it didn't affect me significantly enough. The bupropion, however, was my god send and I was very happy with the effects. After about a year though, I upped the dosage to 300mg due to increased anxiety. Granted, my anxiety couldn't hold a candle to how I used to feel prior to the medication, but it was as if it was beginning to try and fight through the bupropion.

On the 300 I felt much more at ease with my life and found complete acceptance in any situation I was thrown into. At this time, I hadn't noticed any effects on my sex life whatsoever. Everything was as it always was, and I had no problem becoming aroused or climaxing. However, about a year ago I went off the bupropion because I felt that I was losing my emotional connections towards others and, as an artist, noticed my work was starting to suffer from what seemed like lack of emotion and creativity.

I was off the meds for about eight months and loved it. I was still having issues regulating my emotions and impulses, but was learning to cope with it an was able to feel fully as myself again. Unfortunately, I fell in love and put myself back on the medication when I realized how heavily it was affecting me. The anxiety was back full force and I had no idea how to properly deal with it. I went back to 300mg and got back to my, what I call, "hard" self.

I have now been with this man for a few months and we are frequently sexually active. But, I've now noticed that it is harder for me to become aroused and ultimately orgasm. Which, to be honest, I haven't since I started back on the bupropion. This has never ever been an issue for me before with this medication so I looked into it. Seems as if bupropion is actually used to increase libido in men and women and most people swear that their sex lives changed dramatically for the better on it. I'm getting extremely frustrated now and just want to know what is going on! But I'm not sure it's worth going off the medication.

I guess my question is, could it be the medication and has anyone else had this problem from it as well? Also, are there other anti-depressant/anxiety meds that don't affect sexual arousal? Help please! I can't deal with this anymore and I hate that my boyfriend thinks its him. (Who, by the way, I am extremely attracted to and quite in love with.)

yes i have had the same problems. i've been taking 450mgs of bupropion for 15yrs at least. i also take about 9 more meds with that. i have screened hundreds of meds thru the yrs making sure each one the dr puts me on does't effect me sexualy. so i know if one is wrong. i make sure i take the same name brand and it's made by the same manufacture every month, on every med. i even have some orderd for me. i know crazy huh. i've been maried for 20yrs and our sex life is everything to us. so what i'm going to tell you, is very true!!!!!. it's the 300mg pill!!!! that's why i take 3 150s a day. my dr tried the samething with me. i knew with in 3days it was that pill, called had it changed (with special wording for ins) and i was back to normal in a few days. i had a co just get bought from another one (with the same name). i bought 1 medication from them that i have for yrs. by the 2nd day i couldn't take it. they changed the formulation and i had my sexual prob. ya now i have a big problum. i have 2 meds that are made from that co( watson) and one of them is no other then our bupropion!!!!!! i'v been working on getting name brand, hoping they will be ok. i have a feelig that they will. as for the other med, i'm lost right now. anyways i hope i helped you out. if you wan't to respond to me, you can e-mail me {edited for privacy} im not on here very much unless i need some info, or to check my e-mail to see if my hubby has sent me a little note for the day.
