Bupropion Xl 300 By Lupin (l016)

Updated

Has anyone tried Bupropion XL 300 by Lupin - a round pill marked L016?

Just received these from Walgreen's internet pharmacy and I'm very concerned. I started taking this medication about two years ago, the PAR generic, and everything was great. Then, CVS changed to Cipla and things got bad -- it was only thanks to rxchat that I figured out the problem was caused by the new manufacturer. So, I switched to Walgreens, which had Actavis. It was so much better for me than Cipla but not quite as good as PAR. Quite by accident, I found that when ordering from Walgreen's internet pharmacy I got the med manufactured by PAR.

All's been good for many months... until I just opened my newest prescription and found it's by a newly approved generic by Lupin. Hopefully it will be fine, but I am nervous now.

How has it been working for you? Does anyone else have experience taking this medication manufactured by Lupin?

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, nervousness, and insomnia.

I've only been taking this for a week now. I'm not sure what I think. I have been experiencing some dizziness and odd afternoon headaches... but I've also had a cold so I can't yet be certain these things have anything to do with this medication. At this time, I am still very much on the fence about Lupin Buproprion.

Update: I've been taking this Bupropion XL 300 by Lupin for slightly over two weeks. I have experienced some mild to moderate afternoon headaches and I just don't feel quite the same as when I was taking the generic manufactured by Par.
The Lupin version, for me, has not been nearly as bad as the Cipla version was. IMO the Lupin version seems comparable, to me, to the Actavis version. That being said, I called around and found Harris Teeter pharmacy fills with Par currently. Therefore, I have once again switched pharmacies.

I am wondering about your experience with the Lipla brand. I was on a circle pill (maybe the one you are describing, not sure searching my home for the old pill bottles) about a month ago or so they started filling the script with the Lipla brand (oblong pill) and I hadn't thought much of it until I started having bouts of lows and most recently have been unable to pull myself out of the funk or I tend to fall into it far deeper than I have since I've been on meds. I take Biupropion 300xl. Thanks for your feedback.

They just switched mine. I was taking the Cipla generic without problems really... picked up my medicine today and I just noticed it looked completely different! How's it going for you? Mine was switched to the lupin version. Makes me nervous since it was just approved this year in April. Anyone have any updated experiences?

Re: Tina T (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Tina, I think you're saying that you were switched from one version (likely the PAR) to Cipla? If so, I'm not at all surprised. There are SOO many comments and threads here about the bad reactions people had to the Bupropion XL 300 manufactured by Cipla... so many. Search these forums for Cipla Bupropion and you will see. I myself experienced severe headaches, irritability, depression, high anxiety, etc in the couple months I took the Cipla. The Cipla version is a white oblong pull with I71 on it. If you think you're having a problem with it, start calling to find another pharmacy stocking a different manufacturer. You'll likely notice the difference in less than a week. 0Around here, Harris Teeter currently has the PAR. I think Walgreen's and Rite Aid stores have the Actavis, which I didn't find terrific but still SO much better than the Cipla. Last time I checked, CVS only had Cipla.

I’ve been taking the Lupin version of Bupropion XL 150mg and then up to 300mg for a couple of months now... right away I had problems with serious constipation. I did buy a probiotic with 50 million micro-organisms and that has seemed to help a little, but not much at all. Other side effects I have noticed are a nasty medicine taste in my mouth in the mornings when I wake up. I usually brush my teeth AFTER coffee but now I have to brush them before to get rid of that taste so my coffee isn’t disgusting and also again after to prevent staining. The energy aspect didn’t last very long for me on the Lupin brand. I do have a few anxiety attacks here and there, but they’re very mild. It seems like the longer I’m on this pill, the worse I feel... I just feel more “blah” each day. I’m also taking this for chronic fatigue as well as depression... so I really need the energy effect. So am switching to the Mylan version tomorrow... hopefully this one will be better for me!! Does anyone have any experience with Mylan?

Re: J (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

I was able to find a non-Cipla version of Bupropion 300mg XL at Costco (CA). I spoke with the pharmacist about the Cipla and he said other folks had issues as well and had transferred prescriptions over. The pharmacist did confirm that the pharmacy may not carry it long due to the cost of the meds vs. the reimbursement from the insurance. Which makes me think that everyone should file complaints so that they can pull Cipla off the market..one day.

I have been taking bupropion for a few months now. On my last refill, it was changed from a white oblong pill to the Lupin white round pill. I have been taking the Lupin bupropion 300 mg XL (L016 white round pill) for about three weeks now. It has not worked at all. It might be sugar pills as far as I'm concerned. I've had horrible depression and anxiety. I also started smoking again, which is odd, because bupropion is a smoking cessation drug in addition to an anti-depressant, and the other version of bupropion made me quit smoking entirely. I've placed a complaint with the FDA. Lupin is selling placebo pills!

Lupin was terrible. I had been taking cipla for a few months and it was helpful but caused some shakiness and kept me up at night. Lupin was really like I stopped. I began all withdrawal symptoms. Including flu like symptoms which disappeared a couple of hours after I retook cipla.

Re: Bunk Bupropion (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

I took 300 mg Bupropion XL for years (manufacturer Watson). I stopped it in 2015 with no problems whatsoever. In December 2017 I began taking it again for help dealing with an onset of abundance of additional stress, it seemed to be helping (did not check manufacturer). The first refill was a by generic manufactuer I was not familiar with, Lupin. It was like taking a different medication all together. I had not felt that much depression, suicidal thoughts and personality depersonalization in years, I felt so much worse than before I began taking it! I realized it was likely the Bupropion but still did not equate the difference in effectiveness with the manufacturer. I attempted to stop it cold turkey for only 2 horrible, miserable days. Reluctantly I refilled it planning a doctor visit to manage the withdrawal more effectively. After about 2 days I started to feel like myself again and that's when I realized the manufactuer for month 2 was different. My advice from that experience is to check with pharmacist what brand they currently carry (I will every month now!) before getting your refill and avoid Lupin!!

I have been taking it for 2 months and it’s given me the most brutal headaches and I’ve become very depressed again. I’m convinced this is a placebo. I’m going back to the one I was on before w the letters a101 on the pills.

Re: Llemo12 (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

I started with 150mg of Actavis and after a week started taking Cipla 300mg XL. After 3 months of taking the Cipla brand everything was great (seriously, i felt a lot better) but 4 days ago i was given the Lupin pill for my refill and literally since the second day I noticed that it wasn't working as well/something wasn't right. I started feeling depressed and anxious again and started getting headaches. So what I did is I went to my pharmacist and told her the new pills weren't working the same for me and she was very nice about it and just exchanged the pills i had left for Cipla ones. Basically, if you get switched and don't feel great about it (even less than a week into it) there's no need to suffer, just ask to go back to the one you were taking! Everyone will have very different/individual reactions to the different manufacturers' pills, but if you have a feeling that it's not the same (in a bad way), don't wait until the next refill! Hope this helps!

I have been taking Buproprion XL 300 mg for many years for chronic depression. Things had been going fine until last summer when I started having stomach pain and in the evening my legs would develop hives. All would clear by morning and then it would start again. I had a GI workup, almost had my gallbladder out and then after about 3 months it stopped. I have been fine for the last 6 months and the same symptoms restarted. I just realized it was when my Buproprion manufacturer was changed to Lupin with my last refill. I have a severe nickel allergy and wonder if there might be nickel in this generic. Anyone else have these symptoms?

Re: Ellen (# 15) Expand Referenced Message

Lupin has a published list of their ingredients. Nickel does not seem to be an ingredient.

Inactive ingredients: ammonium hydroxide, colloidal silicon dioxide, dibutyl sebacate, ethylcellulose, glyceryl behenate, hydrophobic colloidal silica, hydroxypropyl cellulose, iron oxide black, L-cysteine hydrochloride monohydrate, methacrylic acid copolymer dispersion, polyvinyl alcohol, povidone, propylene glycol, shellac and triethyl citrate. The tablets are printed with edible black ink

Re: mmmm123 (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

At my pharmacy once you walk away no matter what side effects may come they do not return or exchange pills. It has been like this at every longs and cvs I've tried before at so I would say everyone check your prescriptions at the counter! I went through a horrible experience with cipla where I was extremely irritable. Almost psychotic & I just felt like I was losing it which was way worse than the loss of motivation I was taking it for!

Finally got par today and after a couple hours my anger subsided & I felt like a completely different person. So yea idk everyone is different and I'm usually a paradox. On cipla and bupropion in general in the beginning it would knock me out into deep sleep and make me calm and out of it. I feel wide Awake on the par pill. I think cipla is dumping the drug because I had a similar calming effect on addedal before.

Also, I wanted to add I found par at Walmart & when I told them about my reaction and why I was transferring the pharmacist put a note on my file right away to make sure I only got par in the future. So maybe try Walmart if you are looking.

Re: BJR (# 17) Expand Referenced Message

This thread is about Lupin bupropion, not Cipla or PAR. I'm glad you found a brand that works for you though. PAR seems to have the most positive reviews.

I just started my buporion 150 hcl xl (extended release) from lupin, and I am not happy. I have been feeling very irritable, and my sugar cravings have come back! I'm fine in the morning, but mid to late afternoon, I feel like I can snap at the littlest things. It doesn't feel like extended release to me at all. It's like I get a little "high" in the morning because it's too strong at first, and then in the afternoon I feel like I'm withdrawing or something.

I was taking buporion hcl xl 150 mg(extended release) from global/impax pharmaceuticals, and I felt it was truly extended release. It made me feel the best I've felt in a long time. I'm so disappointed, I'm going to talk to my dr.

Trust your gut, is the main message. Lupin causes me dizziness. I’ve been on Bupropion for 10 years and I can tell when I’ve been switched. I’ve never used PAR but Actavis works well for me. It can be hard to get these days. Lupin seems to be everywhere. Let’s all keep complaining to our pharmacist till they stop buying it.

I agree. There is something wrong with the Lupin version of these pills.

I’ve been having increasing brain zaps and trying to figure out why. I was recently changed over to Lupin. 300. I’m glad to see it could be the issue, though I just got a 90 day supply and have no idea how insurance or the pharmacy will deal. I just dug up some old pills in smaller doses, so I’ll take those tomorrow and see if it helps.

I have the same problem. Par is the only one that I have found that works for me. I am super discouraged because I just got my prescription from Walgreens and the same thing as you, Lupin. I am going through a break up and I feel very insecure that I don’t have the medication that I know works for me.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I've been on Cipla brand 300mg for 4 months. I was feeling great. Got a new Rx filled and the pills were different looking. First day I had a horrible headache. Next couple days I noticed I was very fatigued and my neck and shoulders were so tight and ached. I was falling asleep at 8pm. I'm usually up to 10 or 11pm. Constipated (which never happens). Then I was getting extremely agitated at simple problems encountered at work and at home. I called the pharmacist and explained the switch in manufacturer to Lupin was like I had just stopped taking Bupropion cold turkey. She refilled with Cipla brand and I started to feel better about 6 hrs after taking Cipla again. Thank you all for sharing your experience with the Lupin brand. It's definitely not equivalent to the Cipla brand.

Re: mmmm123 (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

I’m wondering, how can the formulations by different manufacturers be so different? Isn’t a generic supposed to closely mimic the formulation of the name brand? Maybe the various manufacturers use lower quality ingredients?

Re: Michelle (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

Wow- has cut back on PAR generic 150 xl for months, ready to go natural and stressful events made me refill the scrip. For last two months felt spiral downward, experiencing the worst of panic and depression and couldn’t figure out why this was so different- even added CBD to take the edge off. Xmas holidays had to get back to therapy- learned my generic was switched to LUPIN — same as PP, sudden rush then end of day short tempered- also nauseous and anxious all the time. Switched back to PAR, within days back to normal. Seems many probs with Lupin - something is poisonous in their formula.

I was taking Global for four months and I was fine. Kroger switched to Lupin and I feel like dog poop. I went to the doc two days ago and he said EOD. The first day I did not take it I felt great. I took one this morning and I feel like I have been hit by a truck. I called and he said just stop. The FDA needs to look into this medication ASAP. Dizzy, nausea, disoriented, faint, terrible.
