Yes, Brandy, it is possible, even in only 3 days.

If someone were either taking very high doses of a medication, or perhaps abusing it, like people do with narcotics, so they are constantly upping their dosage, then the amount built up in their body is higher and takes longer to be processed out, which is why many addicts do not start feeling withdrawal until about a week or so after they stop taking something.

However, when you take a medication like this, the same dosage on a daily basis, then it doesn't take long for your body to process it out and you can suffer some mild effects in as little as 24 to 48 hours.

Hmm...that makes sense, thanks Verwon. It seems that if I stay busy and keep my mind occupied, I don't notice any affects from the pills. It is when my mind is idle that things start to get weird.
I have read so much negative about the pills, and was scared to death to take them. I wonder if it is all in my head because like I said, when I'm busy with work, etc., I feel fine. I do notice for sure that my appetite is gone, almost have to make myself eat (which could be alright for awhile!!)
I am glad I found this website though, I have struggled with depression for years, and this is the first time I have taken medication. It's only been right at 6 weeks but I do notice a difference. Hopefully this med. works.

My husband also tried to stick it out for many years without taking anything for his depression, but sometimes you really do need the help that these meds can give you.

It is possible that you are thinking about the pills and the consequences of taking them, which could be making you perceive these effects. Our minds are very, very powerful and these types of things can happen.

Thus is would only be natural that when you aren't thinking about it, you don't notice the effects as much. Anytime we worry and obsess over what might happen with taking a medication, we can make ourselves think it is having bad effects on us.

If you read my other post above, you will also see that there can be differences between name brand and generic medications, so it is also possible that the effects are real.

Well it has been 3 weeks on the Budeprion and all is good. No noticable side effects and I feel much better. It has been a total of 9 weeks so far (I started out on Wellbutrin). I am able to cope with everyday life in a reasonable manner. Hopefully I am one of the lucky ones that can tolerate this drug. I guess time will tell.

Just started a generic Wellbutrin (Budeprion) as a first-line antidepressant. The first day I felt reasonable, with an almost euphoric sense within a couple hours of my second dose.

However, by the end of the second day, I noticed irritability, anxiousness, and a periodic pain in my head as I write this. My pupils are dilated, I'm having difficulties focusing, and I just want to sleep -- except of course I can't because it's keeping me awake.

I feel a roller-coaster effect, too. Some of the time I feel good -- real good. The rest of the time I feel bad -- real bad.

I feel worse right now than I did before I saw the doctor, no joke.

Is this normal for the first couple days of Wellbutrin (or its generic)? If not, then I would suggest avoiding the generic entirely.

The 1st 2 -3 weeks on welbutrin you have side effects that will go away it is annoying but worth it. I have been on both generic and name brand. The generic was awful. the extra money for the name brand is worth ever penny in my book!

I just want to let everyone know that the generic does not work the same way as the brand name. I have been taking WellbutrinXL few year back and it helped me right away. Most recently I have been given the generic version BudeprionXL. I felt horrible for the past 10 days I have been taking it. I have not been able to sleep at night and I can hardly function during the day. I'm a mess. I can't wait to go back on WellbutrinXL. It's more expensive but it's worth the money.

I have been on Wellbutrin XL , for about 3 years now. Last fall my insurance company stopped sending me the brand name - they were sending me a product called: BUPROPION XL 300mg TAB. Well the last time they filled it, it was filled with buPROPion XL 300mg TAB. The name looks the same except for how they capitalize letters. The pills look completely different though (they look more similar to the brand.) They are round, white round and have WPI 3332 printed on them in black.

With the brand name, I did great. I was sleeping well, energetic and most importantly not depressed.
With the first generic they sent me, I was still sleeping fine, had headaches and only somewhat depressed. Since starting this latest generic in May, my sleep is all messed up, I never feel like I fully wake up during the day/I'm always a bit sluggish, I don't have the headaches but it's been replaced by body odor, little electrical pulses and I'm as depressed as when I wasn't taking anything.

I want to go back to the brand, but I've already talked to my insurance company and employer, they'll make me pay the brand name co-pay and the difference in the cost from generic to brand. So my co-pay will go from $25 to about $290. Not a change I can afford to make. I can't continue to take the generic though, so I may just have to stop it all together.

(Prior to the Wellbutrin, I had tried several other antidepressants, such as Effexor and Lexapro. The Wellbutrin was the first thing to help me and this stupid mandatory generic rule is taking that away from me too.)

My pharmacy switched me to Budeprion XL several weeks ago - after a few days I thought - this works fine, I don't have to worry about this anymore. Wrong. About 10 days later, bloated, feeling like I was going to burst into tears at every little thing, sleeping terribly - it suddenly occured to me that it HAD to be the budeprion. I've taken Wellbutrin for years in conjunction with Paxil, and I have been doing great. All of a sudden, it all changed. My doc is out of town, but I had several days of Wellbutrin XL left from a previous prescription, so I've been taking 2/3 Wellbutrin and 1/3 Budeprion to make it last until he comes back. Almost back to normal, and quickly. Still pretty poor sleep, but I bet that will change when I'm back to regular dose. It is a CRIME to force people to change to a generic or they have to pay through the nose when it is obviously medically necessary - and punish the doctors and pharmacies for being honest with patients.

you can't cut up an extended release pill. it causes the formula to be messed up, and it will not be a sustained, extended release. you're doing more harm than good...even if it seems like it's helping...perhaps it's changing because your dosing is all messed up and you don't have the drug in your system.

If you take Wellbutrin XL 150's, you know the dose is three pills in the morning. Likewise, Budeprion 150's taken three pills in the morning. Therefore, 2/3 and 1/3 is achieved by taking two Wellbutrin XL (2/3)and one Budeprion XL (1/3).

After reading this I felt so much better, not that I was happy you all are having nasty side effects, but that other people feel this way too. I switched from taking Zoloft(the generic) to taking BUDEPRION XL, I have been taking it for five days now and not feeling any of the nasty zoloft side effects expect for headaches. However I am feeling extremely mood, and irritable, and I am having crazy mood swings...is this going to go away?

Been on Budeprion XL 150 for seven days - what a bad trip! When I take it, I feel sluggish and slow, can't complete sentences, and have no energy. Then it wears off and I'm hyper. Having restless sleep and wake up with so much anxiety that I feel out of control and being more sleepy increases the sense of that out of control feeling. This generic replacement for Welbutrin XL 150 is not the same. It is not time released the way it should be and I feel cranky, tired, anxious, confused, and well .. I lost my train of thought. Hopefully I can get put back on my Welbutrin before I lose my mind. HTH

I was just wondering if anyone has ever noticed a difference between the two generic forms: Bupropion and Budeprion?

My pill is small and round and has A101 printed in black. I was taking Wellbutrin for quitting smoking and had no side effects whatsoever when I took 150 mg in the morning. When I took the afternoon 150 mg I didn't feel good. So I just stayed with the morning dose, had no issues, and successfully quit smoking. With my dr. I decided to stay on the meds for a year for a variety of reasons. I'm trying to take the 2 a day. The problem is I'm not sure if I had the generic or not last time. This time I am definitely tired, have headaches and am spacy. Does anyone else have this A101 pill? It really bothers me that you are prescibed one thing and just get what the pharmacy randomly gives you!

Cindyp I just started taking Wellbutrin this week and I was given the generic. My pill is a little white pill with A101 on it. So yes you do have the generic. I actually feel ok, besides not really being able to sleep. I love the fact that my appetite has supressed :-) But these comments really scare me. I am going to call my doctor and ask her if I should ask for the brand name. My doctor know alot about Wellbutrin because she also takes it. I am going to ask her if she takes generic or brand and what the difference is. I will let you guys know. In the meantime goodluck.

Was taking Wellbutrin XL bouncing around a little with 150-300 mg to help me focus in school and work as Stratera and Aderall did not do it for me (made me dizzy). Then I switched me to a generic to save money as school just keeps going up I guess to pay for the scholarships of the athletes. My doctor is a rare one he is a Psychiatrist & Pharmacologist said you could try the generic but he also told me in that same breath the side effects and what he has been reading in his journals. He said that the relapse rate on generic Wellbutrin 300 mg (Budeprion XL 300 mg) is high and the side effect’s many. Well I am a farm boy hunter gatherer football player gone computer geek. I thought I was tough nothing would happen to a 6’ tall 235 former athlete myself. All I can say is I have been humbled and brought to my knees. On day 18, 19 ,20 I started getting a very high pitch ringing in my ear feeling nauseated dizzy with headaches. The ringing is so high and annoying in my left ear only (for some reason) that I try to go to sleep with it then out of exhaustion finally do then I wake up still there. The ringing seems to be fading after 3 days of crashing off the med. Oh what fun it is to take this ride so close to Christmas!!! I have been virtually incapacitated for the last 5 days before finals. I passed but have been a hurting puppy since. It hurts to touch my head and I have these wonderful waves of nausea where I double time it to the latrine (bathroom) and hope I make it. All I want to do is take this medium sized yellow pill (number 682) and make it disappear into the individual’s breakfast that designed this pill every morning so he could feel the wonder meant of his creation. I feel certain if he knew that he would be embarrassed of his actions and want to rethink his design and quality control.
It is my understanding from my great doctor and he is fantastic that it has to do a lot with the delivery mechanism. Generic being a Wax Matrix this causes uneven distribution of the solution into the body. I drink a tremendous amount of water every day at least one gallon of water alone. This habit seems to make me feel great and I am convinced I get an even distribution of (a good med) and I do not need to drink coffee at all. As Caffeine and Sugar do my ADHD no favors. So if the statements above are true and they sure sound like it, that if quality control on balance of medication (either too high or too low) would explain my recent dilemma. I never had the ringing in my ears or all the fun side effects other than I felt good and was focused more than I have ever been.
Moral to this story is and It just goes to show you how the Pharmaceuticals HMO’s and Healthcare industry in general has us by the “cajones”. You get what you pay for. I will have to spend the extra $150 per month even though I pay my Insurance company more than that a month. ($250) So I can be focused at work and at my studies. I don’t expect anyone to play the violins for me everyone has their own problems. The concern is what can we as a people as a nation do to change this problem. Why can’t we force the lowering of cost in Pharmaceuticals by the Drug manufacturers. Hell Wellbutrin has been on the market for over 30 years. The only thing they have changed is the delivery. Do you mean to tell me those guys have not made back their ROI Return on investment for that development. It sickens me to think how much money these jack asses make on the backs of Americans. Yet we are still no closer to the cure for cancer. Seems that Tom Cruise was right about what drugs can do to the body.

The first generic worked fine for me (Budeprion XL 300). With the second generic there was an immediate difference (Bupropion HCL XL). Crying for no reason, Anxiety, Feeling like the world was going to end. My provider switched me back to name brand Wellbutrin XL.

Then my friend sent me this Article which validated what I was going through. I'm glad I saw the article after and not before. Otherwise I would think my symptoms were because I heard about them before. Confusing. Stick to the first generic or the name brand.
