Body Jerks And Twitches On Pain Medication And Have Copd
UpdatedI have COPD and am also on strong pain medication. I just turned 70. Are these body jerks and twitches part of getting old? Every time I mention it to my Dr he basically ignores the question. I'm forever dropping cups of coffee, ect., which usually happens at night and they seem to be getting worse. Any info is appreciated.

My husband's oncologist claimed it was a side effect from extended use of morphine for pain. She switched him to oxycodone and it stopped. However, it was then listed on his chart as an allergy and try as we might to get it removed, no luck. When he was in hospice the only liquid oral pain killer available was morphine and the hospice doctor wouldn't prescribe it because he could have a reaction and die! Can you imagine!? So I had to crush oxy tablets which didn't dissolve, to give him orally. His pain relief was inadequate and he died in agony from pancreatic cancer.
I am 68 female and have the same symptoms as you and I am also taking a strong pain medication and have COPD. I FEEL like my body is shaking all the time. It's very annoying. People will ask me why my hands shake! I really don't know what to say do I just tell them it's age . I hope someone has an answer for us.
Lou, if you don't mind me asking, what pain medication are you on specifically?
Here's a medical study which suggests a possible link between COPD and muscle dysfunction. It states how problems with breathing and limb muscles often occur in patients with COPD. These muscle issues can affect the patient's health and well-being, not just their lung function.
Different factors, both local to the muscles and in the body overall, can cause these muscle problems. For example, the lungs being overly inflated can affect the breathing muscles, while not being active enough can weaken the limb muscles. Other things like smoking, inflammation, nutrition issues, not exercising enough, flares of the disease, not enough body-building hormones, certain medicines, and other health problems also seem to play a part.

Re: Pjrich (# 2)
Hi Pjrich, my symptoms sound very similar I also have copd I'm also on strong painkiller for something else, the copd meds (corticosteroids)
May also be why these symptoms happen. I know it is really annoying I just don't know what to take to fix, all my dr says is probably nerve damage or it's age thing. good luck I hope you can find a remedy if y.
