I am on 150 mg of Irbesartan daily. What time frame should be allotted to wean off this regimen? I wish to discontinue it. ## Why do you want to wean off of it? What condition is being treated? If the medication is the only thing keep the given condition under control, you could be putting your life in danger by discontinuing it according to NIH warnings. It could cause you to experience rebound high blood pressure, and rebound high heart rate, which could result in a heart attack, or stroke, either of which has the potential to be fatal. Are you on any other medications? ## I had to stop 300 mg irbesartan, 10 mg amlodipine and 10 mg prednisone as well as 12 other meds all on the same day with no weaning period as physician would not respond to me or to the pharmacy for renewals. Which is better for Atenolol? Teva or Zydus? Which works better? Which has less side effects? Teva is a smaller pill than Zydus. ## Hello Grammy, Both brands should have the same side effects because Atenolol is the active ingredient and Teva/Zydus are only the brands. Every person reacts to medication uniquely and thus each person is going to have to decide which brand works best for them. Although they share the same active ingredient, often brands will have small differences such as size, inactive ingredients, shape, coating etc. I will provide you with some of these details I sourced from the NIH so you can make a more informed decision on which you would prefer to take. Teva 25mg size: 6mm Inactive ingredients: - Anhydrous Citric Acid - Croscarmellose Sodium - Magnesium Stearate - ...

I have a recent prescription for metoprolol. To get me started, the nurse gave me some she had in stock that had M 18 on it. The prescription I received in the mail has C 73 on it. I've seen descriptions for each which seem different to me but both are described as metoprolol. Are these really the same prescription drugs with the same active chemical analysis? ## Hi, Lee! Yes, they certainly are the same medication. Metoprolol is actually a generic, so it's manufactured by several different companies and they all have to use different markings on their tablets to enable them to be identified and traced back to them, in case of an emergency. The way they look is entirely up to their whit and whim, there are no constraints on that, as long as they used the inactive ingredients tha...

What are the serious side affects of Atacand that one should be aware of? I have swelling and pain in my feet and back pain, when should I be really concerned? Is this med not recalled? ## It has been known to cause these issues as side effects, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, coughing, and rash, and you should consult your doctor because the pain, and edema may mean that it is not the right medication for you, and you may need to try something else. Ref: Medscape Atacand There was a specific manufacturer's recall, and if that applies to yours, then your pharmacy should inform you, and replace it with the product from an alternative manufacturer. Are you on any other medications? ## Thank u. I do believe that the pharmacist did say that the recall was for the generic brand. ...

It combines the calcium channel blocker Amlodipine with the ACE inhibitor Benazepril to better control hypertension and certain cardiac conditions. The Amlodipine Besylate is just Amlodipine by itself. Did your doctor switch you from one to the other? ## Thanks Verwon, No I have taken the one with Benzepril for a couple years now and I got the other one from my mail order refil place and I did not think it is the right drug. It is a 90 day supply and it was too cheap. So now that I know it is the wrong drug I will contact them and get the problem fixed. I am taking olmesartan + metoprolol 50 in the morning and amlodipine + hydrochlorthiazide 5/12.5 in the evening. Despite that, whenever I eat a high sodium diet my bp becomes very high (170/90). I was advised to take met xl t (telmisarta) instead as olmesartan causes me side effects. Please advise. ## Well, it would seem that you are sodium sensitive and are always going to have to watch your sodium intake, according to NIH studies. As to the medications, Met Xl contains a time released formulation of Metoprolol, not Telmisartan. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.
