Big Pharma's Lockdown On Legitimate Chronic Pain Patients (Page 45)

Updated

Is narcotic pain medicine becoming a thing of the past?

Why are doctors across America phasing out the practice of prescribing effective pain medication?

Will big pharmaceutical companies ever truly understand what it's like to face the other side of the coin?

Lately there's been a musty scent in the air surrounding the use of prescribed narcotic pain medication. Many doctors appear to be running scared as the DEA scours through fields of medical records, inspecting prescribing pads like a mouse scavenges for food in a dimly lit cellar.

Should the day come when doctors recommend Ibuprofen to a feeble man who's been involved in a terrible car accident (breaking several bones / requiring extensive surgery), is this doctor at risk of malpractice when there are more effective options available that they choose not to pick, out of fear? Fear of what? Doing the right thing? No, I don't think this is the reason... Somewhere along the line, in the not too distant past, doctors were loosely prescribing narcotic pain medication as if it would never go out of style. Nowadays, the harsh penalty of potentially losing their license for writing any unknown number of opiate prescriptions over so many calendar days or some other form of strict criteria, has been enough to prevent many physicians from taking even subtle "risks" with patients who are expressing obvious signs of pain and discomfort.

The unfortunately unique problem with pain is that it's not a physical object and in order for others to detect it, they'd have to rely solely on the backbone of our body language using their intuition - something that's gone missing in western practice. If more doctors took the time and really got to know their patients front to back, then they will be their own best judge of deciding what the right thing to do is, regardless of what the DEA thinks about their decision or what their drug representative wants out of the deal. Sadly, until patients are put before profits, the foundation of America's healthcare system remains in jeopardy like an iceberg affected by global warming.

While I believe that the vast majority of human beings in their right mind would choose to do the right thing, we must all work together to become the change we wish to see within every aspect of our lives; and knowing that by doing so, it will shine light on those crossing our path that need it most.

In the meantime, some patients may have to find another way to manage their pain without putting their life or health at risk. Others are turning to natural alternatives such as kratom, cannabis, turmeric and/or implementing various lifestyle changes into their daily regime... But the key is to never give up hope.

What will you do?

Warm regards to all who face life's challenges head on.

Re: Roro (# 878) Expand Referenced Message

I wish I knew HOW and WHERE to get all of my medical records. I know military medical records are available but if you have lived in 2 States and seen multiple Doctors over the last 10+ years I do not believe that, unless there is a central depository for ALL medical records, that getting civilian medical records are achievable. If there is a central depository for civilian medical records just WHERE is it and HOW do you get these medical records?

& Everyone here -

I am sure military has records. In my experience since the doctor’s offices have none of my information prior to going electronic. Now that all information is computerized, it’s easily available. Paper files are a thing of the past. Now you would think that the providers would have to keep for a certain number of years or allow you to pick up your files but I have not had any offers. My illness started 25 years ago. My doctors have only put everything on computers in the last 2 years because it’s required or they will be fined. One reason is to track “drug seekers” but on a positive note if you were to move or go on vacation, any hospital or doctor could access medical history.

I think this all depends on how old your records are and if the Doctor’s Office has access, or even kept, the medical records. There are release forms at all Doctor’s Offices but they need to even have the records in the first place.

By law medical records are held forever.
If a Dr. Dies an escrow is installed or another Dr. Takes over the practice. Most records are put in storage after 10 years.

Re: C (# 891) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, it will fly. Everyone I know that has been on narcotics for chronic pain are being weaned totally off. Narcotics are already only being prescribed in my state for acute pain and cancer care. If I have to hear one more time from a medical person that narcotics are proven to not help chronic pain I swear I’m going to punch them. Because they don’t feel the pain they allow themselves to be convinced it’s true. Pain is subjective. There is no way for anyone to confirm you are having the amount of pain you say you’re having unless you’re writheing around on the ground crying. Turning to street dealers is not the answer unless you’re ready to die and add to their false narrative. Bottom line is no one cares about us!

Re: C (# 892) Expand Referenced Message

My medical records are apparently too old to find. I am currently involved in a Court case that, I am sure, would have the government and my insurance company asking for me to sign a release so they may get copies of my medical records that I am contesting they are saying that I have no proof of what I am contesting. My records would prove my case completely but, evidently, these records are unavailable. Even to me.

I have tried acupuncture hypnotism PT etc. Of course nothing worked. The only thing that helps me to function is the pain meds I get. They take edge off so I can at least function.

Re: w john (# 890) Expand Referenced Message

This is true. One of my drs retired. By law they are supposed to contact patient and give opportunity to pick them up or have them stored at local hospital. No such luck. They disappeared.

I agree with you. I tried hypnotherapy, biofeedback, acupuncture, chiropractics, massage, herbal supplements, IV vitamin therapy, the list goes on and on. Only a temporary relief at best, some made me worse. I have even tried medical marijuana but in my state the choices are so limited that it was the equivalent of flushing money down the toilet. The only thing that helps me is my prescriptions which have been taken away from me twice already but I was able to fight it. When new “guidelines” are issued there will be no way to get my prescriptions.

Re: Hop63 (# 897) Expand Referenced Message

There are rules but if they are not followed and no one holds their feet to the fire than there will be no records to request. Most of the time if a Doctor is retiring they could care less if your records are kept according to the rules. They are retiring out of the health care industry so what difference does a license to practice mean to them?

Yes. I agree. Perhaps we feel the same about our professions. No one's life could depend on my my files though.
