Best Generic Adderall Brands (Page 11)

Is the round pink 30 mg Adderall generic name Sandoz/Eon with the markings of CDR 136 on one side more or less effective than the oval orange 30 mg Adderall generic name Barr/Teva with the markings of b974 on one side and 30 on the other side? What is the most effective/potent Adderall that is generic and 30 mg?

30mg twice a day is what I take as well and have for a number of years. I'm 60 and if TX had adult Medicaid, I'd be on it. Research the generic brand you're currently taking. Your prescription bottle should list the manufacturer on the label. Pink and round sounds like CorePharma, better known as Core or in my personal opinion, Crap (for patients but $$$ for pharmacies). For me it does nothing or worse, no focus, no motivation, just a bump on the log. I have not had good experience w/any of the companies based in India like CORE. Quality control ranges a lot from batch to batch. TEVA makes the brand ADDERALL so you'd think their generic version would be the best and at one point I think it was. My experience lately has not been as positive but it is still my number 2 choice. Number one for ME (everyone is different where brain chemistry is concerned) is SANDOZ. Consistent quality, no side effects, good focus, concentration, etc. Very hard to find in my area now because it costs the pharmacy more and most won't do special orders any longer.

You have to shop around and check every single place and ask specifically "What generic brand or brands of Adderall do you carry? Do you special order?". Most carry CORE since it is the lowest cost. AUROBINDO (aka "AURO") is another low cost loser in my personal experience that many sell. Not effective at all for me. MALLINCKRODT (lousy name) out of Ireland varies. Sometimes good, sometimes not. Your mileage may vary. Walgreens in my area all carry TEVA/Barr. I was able to get SANDOZ at Tom Thumb/Safeway last month but they're back to CORE this month.

If you've been on it a long time you also need to take "breaks" when you can (2-3 days or more) every month to keep your tolerance/resistance down.

Until the FDA tightens the standards a lot for generics of neurological meds like Adderall or forces the insurance companies to discount brand Adderall (there is a huge difference in effectiveness and 95% of us will never experience the benefits, patients are screwed. Drs. don't always realize or understand the diffs either but you need to let them know when a particular brand isn't working. Complaints have been going on for years but more people need to join in. Good luck.

Agree 100% CorePharma "Core" is carried by many pharmacies now due to being the lowest cost (or close to it) generic. There's been problems for years but no changes. Another one that I found was useless was Aurobindo "Auro". Sandoz is my number 1 choice and TEVA number 2. Your mileage may vay.

Most people will find that to be the case. CorePharma "Core" is carried by many pharmacies now due to being the lowest cost (or close to it) generic so ask for TEVA specifically every time and check your label before you leave the pharmacy. If you only ask for their "generic" and they carry more than one brand, they will fill the scrip with the cheapest (for them). Another one that I found was useless was Aurobindo "Auro". Sandoz is my number 1 choice and TEVA number 2. Your mileage may vary. If you ever find a pharmacy in your area that carries Sandoz, try it and see how that compares to TEVA for you.

My apologies. My other posts were replies to other replies and I didn't realize they wouldn't show as such. I didn't realize all postings only apply to the original.

So, I'll just make one long reply to cover some of my personal findings and tips from about 10 years experience. I'm a 60 yr. old male, ADHD mixed, mainly inattentive w/ other co-morbidities (your co-morbids such as depression, etc. make a big diff on effectiveness of diff generics); w/20's son and teen daughter, both mainly ADHD inattentive and yes it is different in many cases for girls/women).

Women/girls need to do extra research. Most research has been done on boys/teens w/emphasis on the "hyper" side since that is most disruptive to factory classrooms and does not always apply to girls or adults of either gender. Girls and adults also need to check w/Psych/Dr. on their experience in working with and treating these two groups. How many or what % of their practice is w/girls/adults? It makes a difference.

This personal info only applies to experiences with generic Adderall. Other stimulant or non-stimulant meds may work better in your case. Until they come up with a blood panel/test that can help determine what would work best for each of us on a monthly basis, trial and error is the only way.

Personal/Family Preference (by far) for generic IR Adderall: Sandoz. Haven't used XRs for over five years so no opinion at this point.

2nd choice: TEVA/Barr (IR doesn't last quite as long, less focus, etc. for me; somewhat more variation from "batch" to batch but usually pretty consistent. Works better than most for us but Sandoz still significantly better in my experience.

No effect or worse (for us): CorePharma (Core) and Aurobindo. Some have reported positives with Core and Auro but I haven't seen any that say that after comparing w/TEVA and/or Sandoz though of course there probably are some. If you're happy with it, great but you may want to think about a 2nd opinion on your diagnosis.

Take at least one or two 2-3 day breaks in month if at all possible to help with tolerance/resistance. No matter the brand, constant usage will result in lower effectiveness over time.

If you haven't tried more than one brand you don't know what is best for "you". If there is a difference (good or bad) for your chemistry, you'll know it very quickly, usually with the first dose. Make the effort to try at least one different brand.

Have tried Mallinckrodt (they haven't) w/varying results. It's been over 9 months though so I'm unsure of current quality. Have tried others but not w/in the past year and anything beyond that time is pretty much worthless (as far as information goes) with batch variations, changes in ownership and in QC (quality control), etc. invalidating "old" opinions/data.

When you find something that works, ALWAYS ask for the same brand at your pharmacy when you drop off the scrip and ALWAYS check the label before you leave to avoid surprises. Don't assume it will be the same!

Check the label at the pharmacy counter so that you can change or return it if it is not what you requested or need. If you leave, usually you're stuck with it. Sucks to be stuck w/a month's worth of "nothing" when the pharmacy makes changes. Sooner or later most do (especially chains and usually more than once a year, sometimes quarterly or even monthly) and the change is almost always cost-focused and for the worse (for us).

Most pharmacies won't make special orders (sadly) any longer as another cost cutting measure. That means you need to check personally with other pharmacies if yours stops carrying your "favorite". Phoning is possible but not as effective as going in person. If you're a teen, go w/an adult. Sorry, but you'll get better service in many cases. The pharm tech may "guess" on the phone (especially when they're super busy which is most of the time anymore) but they're more likely to ask the Pharmacist or check the computer if you're standing there.

Complain to the Pharmacist (has no direct control over purchasing decisions in chain drug/supermarkets but can pass info on to those who do) and especially on the corporate website when changes are made for the worse. Complain to the FDA over any bad experiences. The more that do it, the greater the chances that someday, real changes will be made.

Check w/your Psych/Doctor if they know of a pharmacy that carries the brand that works for you. They sometimes track that info. Also, inform them when a particular brand does or does not work. They can also make complaints to the FDA, etc.

Educate yourself! Don't depend solely on the opinion/research of others like me. Use different sources as a platform to find the right answers for you!

Right now the insurance companies, drug companies, corporate buyers, and their legislative minions control what we can or cannot have access to as far as our medicines are concerned. It is just flat wrong that the "best" medicine that helps us function (original brand Adderall in this case) is effectively removed from our choice by artificially high "brand" pricing. It is also wrong that the better generics are also out of reach many times as well due to corporate purchasing decisions. While most any generic will work well for my infections, prostate, cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. it is not the same for something as individual as brain chemistry. The opportunity cost for us and for society is huge but effectively, doesn't matter. Dollar costs rule. Good luck to all.

The b974 is awful. I have been using Activist brand and although I came across some pills that were not as consistent as others in the bottle you could definitely tell you took a stimulant. However when I went to get a refill I was given Aubindo. This was very bad. I had turned that script into the doctor's office and he rewrote a new script. That's how I ended up with this worthless Teva. No other generics but Core in my city. Going to CVS tomorrow to see if they can get Sandoz or Activist.

I believe each persons body is different, therefore they should try both. I, myself can't take the pink ones , cause they do NOT work on me. However, the teva works GREAT

I have been on the Barr/Teva for years. My pharmacy just switched to a round pinkish pill... not sure which brand but it's awful. Nice to know I can request the brand that works. I'm feeling sedated with these.

Only word of advice is to stay far far away from Aurobindo pharma. Whatever they think their putting out there is Adderall, it is actually TOXIC! I've not read but 1 or 2 posts where someone commented that they had no side effects or issues when taking Aurobindo Adderall. Everyone else under the sun has had terrible experiences with this particular manufacturer. I would never advise anyone to take any drug if it's made by Aurobindo.

The pink round 30 mg instant release I think is corapharm, I have noticed they aren't as good as they were. I have not seen tge orange football ones in months. They were effective. It seems to me everything has been turned upside down and whatever is cheapest. U do have a right as a patient to request the generic that works for u at any pharmacy.

Yes that is very true. The orange is not very effective. Pink works better with my system.

I personally prefer Teva Barr for 30mg tablet IR. Now for some reason, however, my insurance will not cover generic Adderall extended release BUT they cover the brand name which is Shire...the pharmacist said it would be like $100 for generic XR and $10 for Shire XR. Anyway, whatever you do stay away from Aurobindo pharma!! I've never had such bad side effects (mentally and physically) in my life...i thought i was going to die!

I've been researching manufacturers for a while to find which one is best for me. For the IR's I just got round pink ones made by Mylan.....junk. I'm falling asleep at my desk. The Actavis oval orange ones are great. I might take the Mylan ones back to my doc and have him prescribe something else so the pharmacy will fill it. I've also started Actavis ER which in this case is not doing much for me but I haven't taken ER in a long time. Vyvance helped for a little while but that didn't last. It started wearing off in a few hours. Teva is not bad either. I'm in the MA/NH area and I have to always ask which manufacturer the pharmacy bought the Adderall this month!!!
