Best Drugs For Bipolar (Top voted first)

Updated

Who has had successful or as close as possible ,drug for treating bipolar . I have been down the list and eventually they don't work anymore . I have use lithium tegretol lamictin topamax . I am on neurontin and take cymbalta -the horror drug - I can't get off it the discontinuation symptoms drive me staight back to taking it . Have been off it for 14 days and the pain in root of nose plus continuos heavy salivation left me dehydrated and no pain meds work. The symptoms and pain dissapear within 1/2 hour of taking cymbalta ! BUT after 5 days of taking it again , the most violent suicide thoughts claim my brain and the body tension is enormous when ever I am stressed or face conflict situations . My brain flies straight to suicide and I have to take a traquilisser to calm myself and then try to sleep which doesn't happen without sleepaid . I am living a horror move as my bipolar is not under control either . My pshyciatrist of many years doesn't know what the hell to do anymore either ! Has anyone got a lifeline for me . I am desparate ! I think I am on the wrong site for this question .pse redirect me if u can.

Are those the only medications you've tried, so far?

If so, you might want to see if some of the straight antipsychotic medications can help, such as Abilify.

Learn more Abilify details here.

Alternatively, you can always retry an old medication that you haven't used for a long time. It is normal to develop a tolerance to them and to have them stop working, but in many cases, taking a break from them can help them to work again for a period of time.

I tried probably 15 different meds. I am on lithium and Emsam. It is an MAO inhibitor so I have to be extremely careful with contraindications but my family was about to commit me and my husband was about to leave. This went on, with me doing everything possible...no stress job, meditating, eating right exercise, etc. I didn't even drink alcohol and tried support groups for 2 1/2 years. My first episode was after child birth. It's been a year now and I haven't had a single issue. I even take 1/2 the starting dose so I don't have to worry about the food contraindications. Drs normally stay away from this but it has changed my life.
