Benzo S Drug Test And False Positives

I tested positive for benzodiazapine for a job. I think they just used a test strip.

I had a single dose of 200mg topiramate xr given by my doctor.

I had bactrim ds, prescribed by my doctor.

I had not eaten for 20 hours so I know my glucose and ph levels were out of range.

Any ideas?

If they use the cheap, unreliable tests like that, it can be hard to say, because there are many substances that can cause them to show false positives.

It could be related to one of the medications you took, or something over the counter.

The antibiotics, such as Bactrim, are known to cause false positives, not usually for Benzodiazepines, but as I said, with such tests, there's a large measure of unpredictability.

Actually Bactrim, and Topamax, can trigger an instant test for benzodiazepines. It’s happened to me twice on drug court. Not a fun experience. Anxiety through the roof even though I did nothing wrong. Benzos are my drug of choice, so that’s why. People look at you like you’re lying. Bactrim alone can also cause a false positive.

I am on Topamax and was taking bactrim, but yeah, not fun. It happens! Further immunoassay and GC/MS confirmation clears it up! Still waiting on my second to be confirmed negative.

Basically no drug will cause buprenorphine to come up positive. It’s a VERY specific class of drug, a partial agonist opioid. So, no.

Bactrim shows up as take for benzo. I report twice a week for drug urine tests and I was taking it for a UTI. Tried locking me up over it. Now that I'm done with the meds it's no longer on my test
