Back On Citalopram 20mg After 2-month Break
UpdatedHi, I recently started back up on Citalopram 20mg after being off for a couple months. I was sluggish in keeping up with my Psychiatrist appointments and ran out of refills and just a couple weeks ago received a new prescription. This drug has worked great for me before - I got things done, was motivated, had plenty to say to others, smiled often, experienced real emotion - when I was off, I noticed all of those things dwindling. Now that I'm back on (2 weeks in) I'm still not feeling that great. Since it's worked for me in the past it has to kick in at some point right?

Hi Ryan,
I am in the same situation. I tapered off and went without medication for 2 months. My anxiety started to resurface and I'm currently back on 10mg. This is day 7 am I'm experiencing the side effects of heightened anxiety and nervousness. I was on Citalopram for over 10 years before I decided to taper. I'm hoping it kicks in soon
Hello, Ryan and Bryan! How are you gents?
It usually takes about 4 weeks for these types of medications to reach their full levels of effectiveness in your body.
The FDA lists other typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Hi Verwon,
I'm doing alittle better. Got meds increased to 20mg and am currently on day 14. I'm no where near where I was at the start but am still anxious at times. I'm trying to relax my thoughts while the meds do their thing.

Brian,
Just b concisrant and they will kick in and you will be better. I take 40mg twice daily. I suffer PTSD from lots of combat. It caused my divorce, and my eldst son refuses to acknowledge I am alive now for ten years. I was not violent, but had only slight emotions and no energy except when anxiety hit me bad. My doc had me on Wellbutron which helped some, but wh3n he àdded Catilopram, for disappeared and emotions arose. It took weeks bit it has worked wonders. I wish you the best.
I'm on citalopram and it's been two months. Now my problem is I feel depressed most of the time. I'm not happy and am not intimately active any more, it's affecting my relationship. Please help.
It will kick back in. I went through the same. Like you, it has done wonders for me
Hey everyone,
I appreciate the replies and sharing your experiences. Nothing really changed for me and my depression/anxiety got pretty bad at certain times (fleeting suicidal thoughts, avoiding people whenever possible). I saw someone the other day and they switched me to Prozac. I am hoping it works for me because I have had relatives had it work for them. Family history is important to factor in when dealing with meds, at least according to the nurse that I spoke to. Hope everyone here is doing better. Keep the faith that things will get better!
Ask your doc to add Welbutrin along with the ctialopram. When mine did that, it was though someone flipped a switched. I was at the suicide place as well. I have severe PTSD from my times in combat. I am a different person with the combo of these two meds.
