Aurobindo Versus Teva Metoprolol Tartrate 50mg (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy pharmacy refilled my Teva Metoprolol Tartrate 50 mg with Metoprolol manufactured by Aurobindo. I've taken Teva Met Tart for 4 years with great results and no side effects.
After taking 50mg Aurobindo Metoprolol Tart, the side effects were immediate. The Aurobindo Metoprolol 50 mg tab did not bring down my BP and it kept climbing. In the meantime my lips and upper face went numb, heart beat felt erratic, cold, shortness of breath, burning sternum, shakiness, nausea and headache. . . etc. No, this wasn't a heart attack. I'm looking for a replacement for the Teva as I understand they merged with Watson. Does anyone have any information on if Teva/Watson is producing Metoprolol Tartrate 50mg tablets under another Mfg. name.

Hello Foley,
The National Institute of Health writes [here], in the adverse reaction section, that all of the symptoms you are experiencing are known side effects of this medication. They write that some of these reactions are more dangerous than others. Chest pains and dizziness are the most common among the effects that you listed and are not considered that dangerous, while the heartbeat irregularity and shortness of breath are more rare and are considered a severe and dangerous reaction. I strongly recommend that you consult your doctor about this as the shortness of breath is a strong indicator that you are allergic or not reacting well to the contents of this brand of medication.
As for your other question Watson and Teva merged quite some time ago and all medication is now under the Teva name as they are the leading company. Many of the medications from Watson are still being manufactured but are now labeled as Teva medication so there isn't a different company that they would produce under. What you can do instead is have your doctor run a test to see which of the contents of the Aurobindo contents you reacted poorly to or you could also ask them to prescribe you medication that has the same inactive ingredients as the Teva brand you were taking for the 4 years. This should ensure that you react in a similar way to the new medication as you did for the Teva brand.
I hope this information is useful to you and can be used to get back on a medication that works best for you.
Just looked this up. I've been having issues as well after my refill of this medication.
