I have been taking 2mg twice a day for 12 years coming this Feb. 2014. I want to get off of them and with all I have read, I'm scared. I have a wonderful Pain management Doctor and he is awear of this, infact he brought it up and I have not been ready and with all I have read makes me even more nervous about weiming off the Adivan after all I have read. What is the least painful way to weim off this drug with the least amount of withdraw symptoms? Thank you kindly. ## Isn't adivan for anxiety? I used to take xanax for anxiety. When I stopped taking them, I got the shakes and a headache for a few days but that's it. It was nothing that I couldn't handle. ## Ativan is considered the hardest drug to get off of it causes a lot of withdrawal if not done right. I would try to ...

Ativan has been used along with opiates for pain control in burn patients and people with injuries that require long term pain control for a long time in other countries. Sadly not so much in the U.S. because we fall behind in the pain control medical treatment. I am Trauma Surgeon from originally outside the U.S. and for the last 20 years we have been using this method of treatment. Ativan should never be taken at more than 2 mg PO unless you are in the hospital with constant medical supervision (BP monitor, O2 sat, ECG monitor, etc.) especially with opiates. I usually start at .5 to 1 mg depending on the weight of the patient and the tolerance build up. The reason being you can build up a tolerance to Ativan very quickly and it will do no good in the treatment of your pain in a very s...

Help is this real or fake? I do not trust the shipper? ## There are such things as 1mg Ativan. I was given a script after a recent trip to the hospital 1mg (Ativan or Loreazapine). Small and white and thinner then the 2mgs I do not remember the exact markings though. ## Are there any markings on the tablet in question? Can you please post back and clarify? The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and irritability.

Its taken so long to find out that I'm not crazy as everyone was suggesting. The distain and criticism from both pharmacist and Dr. that the difference in the Lorazapam was all in MY head. With all that I've been trough I deserve more respect than being treated like a "junkie". Thanks to all voices out there, its certainly helped me knowing I'm not the only that can tell there are big differences in all the manufactures and they all come with there own little side effects. But cant find any SZ198 Sandoz ANYWHERE in central CA. HELP!!!!! ## Spoke with a rep at Sandoz after filling out a report online. They switched manufacturers and are now making it themselves as of a few months ago. The SZ 198 pill is definitely stronger seeming to me and was the reason in emailed t...

I have been tapering off of Ativan (name brand) 2 mg per day going on 8 days now. The cost is one big reason I decided to do so (now $700 for a one months supply) and also I would like to be set free from this. I have been on this medication for over 25+ years. Has anyone had success getting completely off of this medication? Do you recommend something else to replace it that would be a safer choice. I have had a severe panic/anxiety disorder for a long time. I used to take 3 mg, but felt almost normal lately on 2 mg....until the cost went up. I have tried cognitive behavioral therapy in the past. (The best part about it was just having someone to talk to about my anxiety/panic, etc). ## Hello, Flowers! How are you? Please don't do too rapid of a taper, because that creates the risk...

pain relief ## I'm sorry, did you mean Ativan? If so, it contains the active ingredient Lorazepam, which is a benzodiazepine that is most commonly used to treat anxiety, and nervous disorders. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and irritability. But it does not treat pain.

I am a young female in the Cincinnati Ohio trip state area. I just recently got insured by my employer, but on a high deductible health plan and my expenses are limited, I'd like to keep expenses to a minimum for a primary care doctor and not tons of therapy and psychiatry. The car wreck has already cost over 2000. I suffer from depression and generalized anxiety and possible ADHD. (Dropped from dads insurance at 24 due to age... Doctor referred me to psychiatrist becore i was dropped and could not afford to go after I was). I recently was in a car accident and fractured my spine. I need to find a new primary care doctor ( i went to the same physician for over 14 years) and finally have my mental disorders treated after years of suffering, along with treatment for my painful back in...

If I take 0.5 mgs of Ativan every night before bed, is it safe to take 5/325 hydrocodone-acetaminophen when I get my tooth pulled out? I'm scared I'll have breathing problems. ## Is the dentist and your doctor aware that you will be taking both? They do tend to cause depression of the central nervous system, according to FDA reports, so yes, there is a risk of your experiencing shallow breathing, lowered heart rate, and lowered blood pressure. It really depends on what is safe for you, and only a physician can advise you on that. If you are very sensitive to medications, it might be best for you to stop the Ativan, while taking the Norco. Have you had the tooth pulled, yet? If so, how are you doing?

I tested positive for MDMA. I had recently smoked synthetic marijuana. Bizzaro to be specific. Is there anything in this that would cause this false positive? ## what substances, Legal or illicit, can bring up a falsley positve drug tst for mdma? ## I have not taken MDMA in TEN years. Took a drug test for FUN in front of a friend - wanting to see how accurate it was. Tested Positive for THC (yes, I had smoked) and Benzo (which I assume was my prescription for Ativan) but lo and behold I got a positive on MDMA?? Been racking my brain to see WHY and the ONLY thing I can imagine is ZZquil. Have been taking it for a week at night. This is a very scary thought that someone could lose some rights based on a false positive like this. ## I had a job interview today, they took my urine sample (g...

I am down to a half pint of vodka a day but having sweats, nausea, anxiety and some shakes. My Dr. just prescribed me Ativan .5mg to take (1 every 12 hours). Should I totally stop the alcohol now before beginning Ativan or continue to cut back on alcohol and take Ativan too? ## Usually, they expect you to stop alcohol, while taking a medication, such as Ativan, since it increase the risk of your experience certain dangerous issues, such as seizures, severe dizziness, and severe drowsiness. Were any instructions provided? Are you on any other medications? How much were you originally drinking? I am asking, because I'd like to be able to help you more. A half-pint is still a lot for a hard liquor like this. Kudos to you for seeing the problem and seeking help!!!! ## Originally drank a...

Hello! I got a prescription from my psychiatrist for 1 mg of Lorazepam for 2 weeks, then to stop it. I took it religiously every day at random times (from 9 pm - 11 pm depending on whether I was available to drink it at the supposed 10pm). A bit of my background: Reasons for the prescription? - To help me sleep. I was sleeping less and less and had some awful palpitations of my left eyelid. I felt tired due to the lack of sleep. I’ve never had any serious trouble getting to sleep, I’d normally sleep from 10 pm to 5 or 6 am and was good to go. 4 weeks ago I started feeling anxiety; anyways I really understand how bad it gets but in my case it was not drastic. However, my sleeping time was being decreased from 12 am to 4 or 5 am. To someone who was used to a certain pattern I ...

Looking for new things happening in the medical field about this drug. ## Ativan is NOT new, it was approved by the FDA and placed on the prescription drug market in 1977. The active ingredient is Lorazepam. This is a Benzodiazepine, so in the same class as Valium or Xanax and just as addictive. How long it takes to start working depends on your body and metabolism, it can range from 2 weeks to a month. Some of the most common side effects include: sedation, dizziness and weakness. ## Just been put on gabapentin for pelvic pain caused by interstitial cystitis. First week is 100 mg three times a day. Hard to believe but first three days felt like my old self but now pain is back. Was that unusual or does that happen. Also will it help me as time goes on My doctor wants to slowly increase...

I was in the ER for a panic attack and they IV'ed me with 2mg of Ativan. That was on Saturday morning and it is now Monday. I still feel like I want to crawl out of my skin and I'm irritable. Can I possibly be having withdrawal from only one dose of the Ativan? I've never taken it before and so I don't know if I should still feel like this? ## Hello, Dma! How are you? I am very sorry that you're feeling so awful! Those can actually be side effects of the Ativan in some people that take it. With one dose, they don't usually linger that long, but much of it can really depend on your body, especially since you've never taken it before. However, they could also be due to the panic attack and anxiety, or entirely unrelated. When will you be seeing your doctor, aga...

I've been on 1mg Ativan for at least 15 years that I take at night before bed. I tried to quit a couple of years ago and ended up in the doctors office 2 days later only to learn I can't just stop taking it. I'm just thankful I didn't take 3 a day as prescribed. What is the best way to stop taking this medication? ## Check out the Ashton manual. Unfortunately benzodiazepines surprise patients with how difficult they can be to withdraw and most prescribers don't give informed consent. Good luck. ## Usually you have to do a very gradual taper to safely stop taking this class of medications. Your doctor should be able to help you set up a safe tapering schedule for you. But do not try stopping it cold turkey, again, as that can create the risk of dangerous seizures, acc...

Are there any alternative meds to Ativan, that don't cause weakness? ## well it all depends on you brain and body chemistry, there are many drugs in the benzodiazipine family including:valium(diazepam),clodapin(clozaepam), librium, even an old drug called mebrobate I don't even know if it is still available, What are you takeing it for I take it as anxiety, if that is the case ask your doc. there are many non controled substances such as:buspar, paxil, zoloft, ect that may help you.
