Ativan Tapering

Just wondering the best way to taper off Ativan. I have been on Ativan for 3weeks now, was put on for anxiety 1mg. 4x a day. My doctor told me to take this much for a week and then taper to 1mg 3x a day the next week and that is when I would see him again. Well I did what he told me to do and the first week it really helped me and then I cut it down to 3 a day but by the 3rd day of tapering down to 3 A day I started feeling a little shaky and a bit Anxious. I saw my doctor 2days after this and was really quite emotional. He stated he was hoping that this would take care of my anxiety and that I could start tapering but it did not look like that was going to happen. He put me on lexapro and I have now been on this for a week and still taking Ativan per my doctor until lexapro kicks in. In the last week I have been taking lexapro I had 2 days where I took 1mg 4x a day and the rest of the week 3x a day. I am not taking them so many hours apart just when I feel I need it and I am wondering if this is why I feel a little nervous when I do finally take one is because I am not on an hourly schedule like when I first started them. I really just want to get off them and let the lexapro do its job so it's not more difficult later on. What is a good tapering schedule and dose?

Hello, Shelley! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having/

How long have you been taking the Lexapro, now?

It can take about a month, before it reaches its full level of effectiveness in your body. Thus, it might be best to wait a bit longer, for it to start working, before stopping the Ativan.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of Lexapro as possibly including nausea, dizziness, mood swings, headache, dry mouth and weight changes.
