Ativan / Lorazepam 1 Mg For 2 Weeks And Stopped
UpdatedHello! I got a prescription from my psychiatrist for 1 mg of Lorazepam for 2 weeks, then to stop it. I took it religiously every day at random times (from 9 pm - 11 pm depending on whether I was available to drink it at the supposed 10pm).
A bit of my background: Reasons for the prescription? - To help me sleep. I was sleeping less and less and had some awful palpitations of my left eyelid. I felt tired due to the lack of sleep. I’ve never had any serious trouble getting to sleep, I’d normally sleep from 10 pm to 5 or 6 am and was good to go.
4 weeks ago I started feeling anxiety; anyways I really understand how bad it gets but in my case it was not drastic. However, my sleeping time was being decreased from 12 am to 4 or 5 am. To someone who was used to a certain pattern I was worried and I wanted my sleep back. Those days I also got my eyelid twitching.
I got that prescription, drank it and slept from 10pm - 5am some days; others 12-6am. I never felt rested. I slept, yes. But never felt rested. Like I used to.
As indicated, I left it after 2 weeks. Yesterday was my first night without my 1 mg dose and I couldn't sleep for one second.
I felt so so so upset with myself. I feel like perhaps there were other ways of dealing with that than actually going so far as getting a prescription.
I skipped the dose because I was told to “just leave it after 2 weeks” and bam, no sleep.
I’m worried about having no sleep again tonight.
I don’t want to be dependent on any sleeping pill, but I’m scared that these sleepless nights would happen all week?
Is it a withdrawal symptom?
So far no sleep.
Anyone else experiencing something similar? I don’t know if I should taper to 0.5mg daily and see. I’m scared of tapering and finding out in a week that I need to stay on those pills.

Hi, I took a month to taper off .5mg x 2 daily. And I had a very difficult time. I had been on lorazepam for 7 years though. I think taking it at that dose even just for two weeks...personally I wouldn't stop them abruptly. They are very addictive and very difficult to get off of. I would tell my doctor about the sleep problems, you may be able to at least half the dose...but ask him about how to taper off. I was down to 1/4 of a pill a day for the 4th week, then off them. Ask your doc and just be very careful with this med. I will never take it again because of its highly addictive properties.
