Are Subutex And Valium Safe To Take Together?

I take 3-5mg Valium plus 3-8mg subutex daily. I've heard its not a good combo to take at all! I take the Valium for panic and anxiety attacks and take the subutex for chronic pain. I was in a motorcycle accident and died but lucky i am alive today! I've been worried because even the paperwork that comes with my subutex for the pharmacy says DO NOT Take subutex if you're taking Valium! I cant find a good answer. I take gabapentin 800mg 4× daily and 100mg 1× night at bed time for sleep. I am really nervous about this because i do also take a lot more meds and i have asthma and have 2 different asthma pumps to use everyday. FYI - everything is prescribed in my name by 3 different doctors. I have gotten chest pains and feel really sick. Do you think it has to do with taking both my prescriptions, the Valium and the subutex? I want to change cuz i am allergic to everything and the subutex has citric acid in it and makes me itch super bad so i have to take another med just to stop the itching even though i still itch.. I know i might not hear from a doctor on here but any comments are welcome. And no i wasn't a drug user either, don't smoke ciggs and dont drink alcohol.

Well. To be on sub. Only addicts get those. Ones who were addicted to all pain meds. And 2. Valium kolonopin and xanax are number one killers mixed with sub and other opiates. Trust me. All.most died 5 times. Because pain kills and benzos. Namely kolonipi and xanax. Glad I'm Alive to share this with someone who might be able to get the right mindset and do something great

It can be highly dangerous. But as long as u know when to say stop. U will be fine

Will I run into problems with the pharmacy? On subutex and having surgery soon that will cause a need for pain med. Will the surgeon and/or the pharmacy deny opiate pain pills due to subutex? How do I go about getting this straight before being in severe pain from surgery?

Hello Stitch,

You should immediately contact your doctor if you have been experiencing chest pains and sickness while taking these medications. Using buprenorphine together with other medications that also cause central nervous system depression can lead to serious side effects such as respiratory distress, coma, and even death. The NIH says that if you are experiencing these conditions while taking these medications it could be a major issue.

It would be in your best interest to have your primary care physician look at the list of medications you are taking and possibly run some tests. It is very important that at least your primary doctor has a list of these medications because there could be massive disconnect in the communication between them and ultimately have a severe impact on your health.

Yes!!! They are safe. As long as you don’t DRINK ALCOHOL OR MIX OTHER DRUGS WITH THEM. I am on 8mg sub was on 16 and also on 3mg klonopin and some other stuff. It’s very safe if you’re not reckless

they are fine. Subutex has no naloxone in it. If you keep it under 40 mg. Its fine. Nice hand in glove effect. Be careful make sure you are tolerant of both. But they go together magnificently.

Pharmacy’s will more than likely tell you it’s not in stock or they don’t feel comfortable filling it...may I ask why you’re not on suboxone?? only reason I’ve seen people wanting subutex was to abuse it? Unless u have a severe allergy there’s no need for anyone to take subutex over suboxone IMO

I’ve also been on every benzo in the book at the same time takeing sub doses of 16-2mg I’m at 6 right now and take 4mg clonazepam daily. Never had any chest pains or problems. Bring the issue up to your doctor and don’t mix alcohol. That’s when people die

I have also overdosed 3 times and have been to the NICU 3x. Left for dead in a trap house driveway that was number four. All before I got on suboxone. The combo is not dangerous... if you responsibly take your Suboxone and your dose of Klonopin, which I am on both. There’s an increased chance of respiratory problems but that is with any opioid. I’ve been clean off heroin and pain pills for 6 years plus. And I can attest that to ME these are a safe combo. Especially with a weak benzo like Valium or Ativan. Xanax is very short-lasting so doesn’t pose much threat either; whether u abuse it though is key. It’s very common to be prescribed one with the other and usually Adderall because our brains are s*** from opioid abuse and underlying conditions. I’m not a doc but I’m saying I know plenty of people on this same combo as am I. And I’m fine.
