I tried to make an appointment with Dr. Coates for depression and anxiety and was told I HAD to provide my previous medical records before he would prescribe any narcotic or controlled medications. I had a friend get medications over a year ago and he didn't have to provide his records and when I asked why he didn't their reply was he was seen prior to the policy being put in place.

Most doctors are going to want your prior medical records, before treating you and prescribing anything. Is there some reason you can't provide them?
It is usually just policy to comply with DEA guidelines.
What medications were you taking in the past?
