We live in a nation where drugs are created for every conceivable human feeling. Do you ever wonder if these feelings are normal and not meant to be drugged away? What if your depression and anxiety were you body's natural way of telling you something is going on with you, that you need to pay attention to something inside of you? Seriously, how else would our mind and body alert us if something is wrong, if not through our depression and anxiety? Are we then actually harming ourselves by medicating away our body's natural reaction to stress? I like to hear your thoughts on why we should or shouldn't stop taking drugs. ## You are so correct with this statement. Our bodies are telling us it isnt working right, but most doctors are too quick with the ink pen to try to find the...

Hey, I'm going through clinical depression... Depression struck me four years ago. I realized something wasn't right and I forced my parents to take me to a doc. My diagnosis was a herculean task. It took almost 6 months of medicine trial and counseling and then came to a conclusion that I had OCD and depression. Thereafter, the doc prescribed me many different types of medicines and one medicine made me feel slightly better but increased my weight by about 25 kilos... So he tried one more medicine and I'm in the worst phase again... I'm a singer and I make people laugh and entertain them, but nobody can even guess what I'm going through.

I have always been an anxious person (worrying too much, scared, etc) but last year some events made my anxiety worse. I was prescribed Prozac for it and at the beginning it was good: no anxiety anymore. After 7 months I decided I didn't want to take it anymore so I tapered to 0. I felt ok for about 3 months after stopping and then the anxiety came back with a revenge; this time I had several new symptoms like: chest pain, insomnia, OCD thoughts, panic attacks, depressive feelings. My doctor told me to get on Prozac again and so I did. The anxiety has gone a bit but now I have a lot of side effects that I had not experience in my first round of Prozac. Emotional numbness, zero libido, nausea, etc. I just want to come back the state of mind that I had before meds, in the long term Pr...

Is this drug considered to be a narcotic? I'm dealing with someone with an addictive personality and keeps going to docs and getting different types of drugs. I want to make sure this isn't in that sort of category. ## No, Thomas, this is an SSRI antidepressant that is used to treat various mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and OCD. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings, and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thomas, Well good and bad news, Zoloft is non narcotic. SSRI's are traditionally used for depression and depressive like conditions. They are technically non habit forming but millions who have been regular users of this family of drugs can result in depen...

My Dr. just put me on Prozac 40mg. Never had it before. But I'm one who suffers from severe depression, mood swings, ect. When I'm depressed I don't eat, maybe for days. Will Prozac help turn it around? ## Unfortunately, no! Prozac actually may cause more weight loss, if you're under weight. It's prone to doing that, rather than causing weight gain. It may also cause dizziness, drowsiness and dry mouth. If you really want something that may help with appetite, you may do better with a different SSRI, such as Zoloft. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Don't drink with it. I did and my hubby said that I have a split personality when I do. But when I don't drink...It's the best meds I've ever taken. It really works. Just please don't drink wh...

I have what I thought was Trazodone 100mg, but it doesn't have any letters on it. It is white with 100 on one side and scored in quarters on the other. Any help? ## Yes I have exactly the same pill. It seemed to have worked for insomnia but feel a bit knocked out & depressed. I will take less tonight. From what I've read of side effects it seems to be the real deal but who knows?

Will the diarrhea stop after being on viibryd for awhile? ## Hi, Ruth! That can certainly be an annoying side effect. And yes, it should go away after about 4 to 6 weeks, once your body has gotten used to the medication. If it doesn't, or if it becomes severe, then you should consult your doctor immediately. In the meantime, as long as you're not on any fluid restrictions or been told by your doctor not to do so, you may want to add a little extra water each day to prevent dehydration. Other side effects may include nausea and insomnia. Learn more Viibryd details here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## What about if the first time you take Viibryd and immediately start vomiting and continuous painful diarrhea with horrible stomach pain? I was afraid to even take anymore...

I have been on Pristiq now since November of 2008...not quite 5 months...and I have put on 15 lbs since starting it. DESPITE working out with a trainer at the gym twice a week weight training, 3 days a week of cardio AND counting calories. My doc assured me that I would also have a decreased appetite on Pristiq, which I have yet to find true...so he has now increased my dosage to 400 mg. Does anyone have anything to add to this?? I'm just frustrated! ## i was switched to pristiq a few months ago and just recently wellbutrin was added - i take 1 of each pill per day - it has done nothing to me in gaining weight - i am continuously losing but i have some emtional things going on right now which i believe the weight loss is contributed too - unfortunately i have run into many that have...

Depression ## This medication is unavailable in the U.S. and I am sorry to say that other countries do not regulate their prescription drugs as strictly as the FDA does. That said, finding information on them is very difficult, since there are no databases which list them all, like there are for U.S. prescription drugs. The only thing I can suggest is that you try asking your doctor or pharmacist for more information. ## iam suffering from a mild type of shock 4m my head. in this case i lose my total body control 4 nearly 2 seconds and again i become normal. doctor suggested me 2 take take ENCORATE CHRONO 300. i also continued as he said tilll 5 years. and now again iam getting the same reaction . help to overcome this problem. ## my wife 62 was having cervical dystonia for almost 9 yea...

How long does trazodone 100 mg stay in your system for a urine test? ## Trazodone is an SARI antidepressant and, as such, it is not in any of the substance classes that are included in standard drug testing. Learn more Trazodone details here. Along with being used as an antidepressant, it is also sometimes used to treat anxiety and insomnia. However, as I stated, it is not something that will be detected in drug testing. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Trazodone is on the list of medications that will cause you to fail the FAA medical test to get your pilots license. How long do I have to stop taking it for insomnia before the drug test? I understand it's not on a normal screen, but I can't take any chances that it would be detectable in my system. Recently (within the last 24-hours) I was FINALLY taken off my Effexor. My blood pressure has been terribly high (189/99 yesterday) for at least two years and I always suspected it was related to my Effexor. My first day off Effexor, my blood pressure was down to 132/75. The Effexor was replaced with 10mg of Brintellix. Sweet lord.... I cannot remember the last time I was, or have ever been, so violently ill. I was sick for HOURS. I tried to replenish my fluids. I was not successful. Well, more accurately, I was able to get some fluids down but they quickly reappeared. I read the enclosed product information and 100% of the Brintellix website. I was unable to find information about splitting the tablets. I realize there is a 5mg tablet, as a dosing option. However, I'm returning bac...

My husband has been prescribed Urbanol 10mg at 7am and 2pm; also Venlafaxine Unicorn XR 75 (for depression), but he says that he has a dry mouth and he lays awake most of the night now. Being a singer, he says this is not working for him. Is there anything else that he can take?

I just received these tablets in the mail. I was prescribed to this medication but haven't been able to get back to my doctor to renew. The pills look very different. It is a green tablet with no markings except for a break line on one side. The packet says Fluoxetine IP and Tritin-20. I can't find this on line to give me confidence it is the correct drug that I ordered. Any ideas? ## Hello, Ann! How are you? I'm sorry, but without any markings, there's really no way to confirm if they are Fluoxetine, or not. The best thing to do would be to just set up an appointment with your doctor to get a prescription that you can pick it up at a U.S. pharmacy, so you know what you're getting. Many pharmacies even have it on their $4 lists now, so it's not an expensive medic...

I've been prescribed for insomnia but it makes me feel happy and ready to move. ## Hello, Mary! How are you? No, it is not. The FDA classifies it as an antidepressant that is used to treat major depressive disorder. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was wondering if Mirtazapine is considered a narcotic? I have been prescribed a 30 mg dose and would like to know if lab work would show any narcotics in my system if I start taking it? I haven't been able to sleep. ## Sally please see Verwon's message. This drug is NOT a narcotic (opioid). It is an antidepressant, mostly used to treat depression, but can also be prescribed for anxiety and insomnia.

I have been on Paxil for anxiety for about 6 months, I was having trouble sleeping so my Dr added Trazodone 50mg 1 an hour before bedtime. Just wondering if anyone has been on the two together, and is it safe, since Traodone is also an antidepressant, I have to say I actually feel even better now, than when I was just taking the Paxil. I have been taking the Trazodone for about a month now. ## Hi Sandie, Hopefully your doctor was aware of this before adding the Trazodone, but according to various drug interaction checkers, combining these two medications may increase your risk of developing a rare but serious condition called serotonin syndrome. Symptoms associated with serotonin syndrome that you may want to watch out for, can include the following: Confusion, hallucination, blurred vi...

My 21 year old son is on Effexor xr, 75 mg's per day. He has been on this drug for almost 9 months. He has gained 20 pounds or so, he is not motivated at all about anything. He can't work. He is not suicidal, but it is not helping him. His girlfriend is ready to leave him. I am at a loss. He has what seems to be brain zaps from what I have read. He calls it electricity jolts. Please send me some information so that I can figure out what to do to help him. He will not do anything about it . He never sleeps at night. He sleeps all day long. He takes the medicine at bedtime. I got a temporary citalopram script from CVS and the pills were white. Then I received another script from express scripts & the pills are pink. Why the difference? ## What are the markings on them? Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you! The color is actually irrelevant and is entirely up to the manufacturer's whit and whim. Since this is a generic medication, it is manufactured by several different companies, so the color, shape, size and markings may vary. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and weight changes.

It's in the fluoxetine (Prozac) I've been prescribed to take for depression and anxiety. ## What are the markings on the Fluoxetine you have received from your pharmacy? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight loss. Can you please post back and clarify?

this is going back 13 years but I think it screwed up my brain. A doctor prescribed me 100 mg of Lexapro because she convinced me that all of my anxiety was learned from my mother and would go away with Lexapro. Well she kept upping and upping until I was taking 100mg a day for a long time. I was manic out of my mind and drinking like crazy. She was giving me free samples out of her closet. Who knows what she wrote in my notes. I bet her notes said I was on 10.... Could that have messed up my brain chemistry long term? My friend was a rep for Lexapro and she said it was too much but I trusted this counselor so I continued. ## In the U.S., you do have the right to view your medical records, though if you request a copy for yourself, they are allowed to charge you for them.
