Started topamax 6 yrs ago for migrainew then got fatigue and kidney stones, need a new drug? Also fighting seizures. ## Hello, David! How are you? Yes, kidney stones can be a risk of taking Topamax, as listed by the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness and drowsiness. Have you consulted your doctor? There are several other medications that you can try. Have they ever evaluated the kidney stones to make sure they are due to the medication and not some other issue?

I take lamictal for bi polar. disorder. Will visterol cause interactions with these medcations i also. take prozac. and just had surgery yesterday so i need. some. answers please. if u can ## Hello, Brandi! How are you? It's actually the combination of the Lamictal and the Prozac that can be risky, since the Lamictal increases the toxicity of the Prozac. However no, there are no issues listed adding the Vistaril, though it's always best to double check such information to be sure. The FDA classifies Vistaril as an antihistamine that is frequently used to treat or prevent nausea and vomiting. Its typical side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and sedation. Is there anything else I can help with?

6 months ago my psychiatrist prescribed 600mg of Gabapentin, to be taken at bedtime, for bipolar disorder, nerve pain and sleep disruption. For months I have been dizzy, lethargic and unable to focus. Since Gabapentin has a half-life of 5-7 hours, could it be that the single daily dose has me in a constant state of withdrawal? I had to miss 3 appointments with my shrink because of back problems and managed to fall through a bureaucratic Medicare crack - the hospital I was seeing him through will no longer accept me as a patient so I am out of luck re asking for help with this medication. Thanks! ## Hello, Curtiosity! How are you? No, only one a day of a medications that isn't a narcotic and is non-habit forming shouldn't cause withdrawals. Gabapentin is classified by the FDA as ...

On Gabapentin for 2 months. Started at 900 mgs (3 doses 3xs/day) for anxiety after getting off Vicoden. Went down to 600/day after 1 week, then 400 3 weeks later. Having severe burning all over body, really horrific. Has anyone else experienced this? And, how much longer should I expect to ween off the 400? Went to dr about burning and he said I needed to increase dosage but I am fearful since I'm down to 400. The burning is the worse at night, unbearable. Have ordered magnesium taurate since others have indicated this will help with withdrawal? ## Hello, Bobby! How are you? If you withdrawal too rapidly from a medication, it can cause a rebound effect of the conditions it is actually intended to relieve, while you're taking. Gabapentin is known to help with nerve pain, thus you...

I had one grand mal seizure last year, I was put on 1500 mg of Keppra right away. I had a tumor removed. Problem gone. Neurologist said I have to stay on the Keppra. I hate Keppra. Basically makes any mood I have to tenth degree. Angry is sooo angry and sad is soooo sad and even happy is soooo happy. I can't stand it. I am going to wean off it but I want to know which way would be best. I take 2 at pm and two in the am. should I go 1 at am and 2 at pm or 1-1/2 at each? ## Hello, Cheryl! How are you? If they had to do surgery to remove a tumor, then there is good reason they want you to stay on this, the trauma from the surgery can also create the risk of seizures. However, the good news is that you don't have to stay on Keppra, if it's causing you such problems. There are ot...

I had to take a UA screen for a new job I applied for. Everything came out Clean, except I tested Positive for PCP. I do Not use PCP or Any illegal drugs. I am taking Lamictal (200mg 2x/day) and I am taking Seroquel (100mg 1-2 at bedtime). I also take Alka-Seltzer/with aspirin every day. And Tylenol (500mg) 2/day. I have read that both Lamictal and Seroquel can make a false-positive for PCP. Since I HAVE to take those for bi-polar and ADD, I can't go off of them so my UA can be "clean". What can I do about this, as my potential employer will not hire me if I test positive for drugs (like PCP)???

Ok this is long so bare with me! I had a major foot surgery in February and started on this med and am not feeling good at all. My legs are always shaky and when I try to go to sleep my legs jump up. This is not a good feeling at all? I also take meds for epilepsy? But that is another story! Anyway, how long before this is out of my body? I don't have any u/a or anything. It's just me and wondering when this feeling will be overcome? ## Narcotics can cause those types of side effects, in some people that take them. Others, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. How long ago did you stop taking them? It may take a couple weeks for all of the side effects to fully wear off. Have you changed the dosage on your other medic...

My husband was prescribed gabapentin for severe tinnitus. . From the very first gabapentin reduced and sometimes completely stopped the tinnitus, but after about three weeks of use his tinnitus came back as strong as ever and the gabapentin gave him no relief. Has anyone else had that experience that the pills just stop working? If you continue does it start helping again? ## Hello, Chlokara! How are you? His doctor may want him to try a higher dosage, but it is doubtful that it will start helping, again, at the current dosage. Scientific studies have actually shown that Gabapentin isn't more effective than a placebo at treating tinnitus. Conversely, as listed by the FDA, it can actually cause tinnitus as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, weight gain and anorexia. Is ther...

Prior surgery in 2002 for spinal stenosis...bars and screws - sever stenosis above previous surgery ...Neurosurgeon prescribed Gabapentin 3 times a day for nerve block. ## Hello, Shirle! How are you? Gabapentin isn't actually a nerve block. The FDA actually classifies it as an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. It can alleviate nerve pain, due to the way it works on the receptors in your brain. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. It works well for some people, but not all, which is normal for all medications. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been reading some of the discussion threads and really would love your advice. So back in 2012 I slipped two discs with one that had a tear and I have spinal stenosis. Had wonderful docs that helped me get back to some since of normalcy. I had used Gabapentin for a period of time, then came off of it once I had an injection for my right leg nerve pain and numbness. Just a note, I have never been 100 percent probably not even 75 percent. There were times when the pain in my back was so bad, I would would just be angry. A second MRI was done last year and they told me I was not a candidate for surgery and gave me other suggestions like yoga, etc. That proved to be more harmful then good. Through it all I have tried to maintain some sort of life style and dealt with the pain with Ic...

If you have experienced seizures, or suffered brain damage that could make you prone to them, your risk is far greater if you don't take a medication to help prevent or control them, than it is from the medication itself. hi, I went into Detox for alcohol May 15 and depression. I was then put on Lamictal 50mg lamictal then went to 100mg in 3 days. I've been on 100 mg for 3 weeks. I started reading about side effects, rash, etc. and how normal dose to start with is 25mg for a few weeks then go to 50. I'm worried because my Doctor sent me home with 100mg of lamictal right away. Any thoughts? ## Hello Candy! How are you? The dosages you're reading are for its standard use for Epilepsy, which is quite different than detoxing from alcohol. A doctor must adjust it accordingly for that use, to help prevent delirium tremens and possible seizures, as well as helping to prevent the cravings for alcohol. As listed by the FDA, the typical side effects for Lamictal may possibly include nausea, weight gain...

My daughter and I are epileptics, we are currently on Levetiracetam me 2000mg her 1500mg, manufactured by Sunpharma. I have been informed by my pharmacy the company has discontinued it. They can refill it by another company I'm told the inactive ingredients can be different does this make a difference? And can we get seizures I'm concerned, but do not have a choice. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. ## Hello, Addison! The inactive ingredients are considered inactive for a reason, they are not known to affect the way the medication works or to have any biological effect on the body for most people. Thus, you both should be fine. There is a slight chance that one of you may react to something in it, if you're allergic, or if there's a variance of the active ingredi...

My granddaughter was born with cleft lip, cleft pallet, is 50% deaf in both ears, wears 2 hearing aids and has a speech defect. Her mother was taking Dilantin during the pregnancy. My wife and I have been raising her and 2 other children of our daughter. Our daughter went downhill after that and became hooked on opiates. She is currently in jail for the 2nd time.
