Gabapentin For Tinnitus

My husband was prescribed gabapentin for severe tinnitus. . From the very first gabapentin reduced and sometimes completely stopped the tinnitus, but after about three weeks of use his tinnitus came back as strong as ever and the gabapentin gave him no relief. Has anyone else had that experience that the pills just stop working? If you continue does it start helping again?

Hello, Chlokara! How are you?

His doctor may want him to try a higher dosage, but it is doubtful that it will start helping, again, at the current dosage. Scientific studies have actually shown that Gabapentin isn't more effective than a placebo at treating tinnitus.

Conversely, as listed by the FDA, it can actually cause tinnitus as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, weight gain and anorexia.

Is there anything else I can help with?
