Having lap-band surgery in 1 week and in my pre-surgery test they determined I have a mild UTI infection today and gave me sulfameth/tmp ds tab. I have no symptoms or fever. Will this cause the surgeon to postpone my surgery? ## Is your surgeon aware that you are taking this medication when you filled out the initial paper work to have the procedure done? Usually, antibiotics like this one are only prescribed for up to 7 days or so to kill an infection, so it may end up that you finish taking the medication before your surgery date. It should be a priority though in my honest opinion, to inform the surgeon about it anyways just to be on the safe side. I am a 'youthful' 69 year old and have suffered with very regular UTIs all my life. I recently took a 10 day course of antibiotics (this finished 5 days ago) and then began taking Hiprex. My 10 month old girl was prescribed Pinaclav 125 mg to take 5ml/3 times daily for 7 days. I was just wondering if it is ok to give so much medication (not 2.5ml).The other issue being that the bottle has less than the 7x15ml=105ml required. Medication was given by the GPs on duty during the night(not her own GP), it was made by them & the doctor gave my husband a spoon to administer it (rather than syringe). Therefore I am in doubt. Is this medication for yeast infection and can i still take it if the experation date is 03/11/10? ## No and no. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic and, as such, it can actually cause a yeast infection, it will not clear one up. It is only effective for bacterial infections and a yeast infection is caused by fungal growth. Learn more Augmentin information here. And once expired, it begins to lose effectiveness and should not be used, because it increases the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. If you have a yeast infection, you should see your doctor for confirmation and/or look into a medication that's formulated to eradicate them, such as Monistat.
