The cost of doxy-cycl hycl 100 mg capsules more than doubled recently. Is there some kind of rebate or a substitute drug? $100.00 for a 30 day supply is a tremendous burden for an elderly person on medicare who is required to take this drug. ## That is the generic, so it must be just a pricing change at your pharmacy. My 87 father was prescribed Sulfamethoxazole after being diagnosed with urinary/prostate infection. He has taken it for only one day but he experienced weakness, muscle aches in legs and today he woke with fever. Of course, doctor took him off meds and did not think the fever was related to prostrate issue or "sulfa" meds. Should this be taken with food or just water? ## This is a generic for Bactrim and, according to the monograph, there isn't a preference. However, it is well known that this antibiotic can be very rough on your stomach, so if it were me, I'd take it with a meal, or small snack to avoid the nausea and pain it can cause. However, because of the wide range of side effects associated with doxycycline, (pain, nausea, stress and anxiety, breathing difficulty, anaemia) I would consult a doctor prior to mixing doxycycline with testosterone boosters.

This is not to say it can't happen, but this information is being pulled from government webpages, so there is a certain level of trust that comes with the information provided. I also researched to see if there were any contraindications or special precautions against those who may already have blood clots, and this does not appear to be a factor in the safety of this medication. "diarrhea that is watery or bloody" is closest side effect I was able to find on Nitrofurantoin. From my own observation, most blood clots are stemmed from one's dietary habits or smoking habits with cigarettes/tobacco. I hop...

Have some that is over a year old is it safe to take for a cough? ## Certain drugs like this should actually be okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. My personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been over a year old. So it may still be effective, but not quite as potent. I also think it's difficult to give a direct answer to this question, since each medication can effect people differently. We all know that it's better to try and avoid the expired drugs and stay on the safe side, but unfortunately the only way to find out is to actually try it or get it lab tested. I have enlargement of lymph nodes, can I use Amox K Clav 500-125? ## @Frank, Even though infections are the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes, it's not necessarily the only cause. For this reason I'd still encourage you to speak with your doctor about diagnosing the cause, before taking an antibiotic (if in fact you end up not needing to take it). In the event that it is an infection, Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium (500 mg - 125 mg) does cover a broad spectrum of bacteria, so in my opinion it may be a feasible approach.
