Will this go away or will I have heart burn the whole time? ## Hi JoAnn, Are you taking this medication with any food or on an empty stomach? Although heart burn is not listed as a side effect of Doxycycline, I have come across a number of other posts in which patients mentioned having severe heart burn and have had to call their doctor or go to the emergency room. They also noted that having the pill with food could help relieve some of the symptoms associated with heart burn. There's really no way to tell how long symptoms will last, since everyone reacts to these drugs differently. If it persists though, you may have to consider stopping the medication and opt for a ...

This pill is white and oblong. It has a print of VP50 on one side and nothing on the other side. ## @Whitaker, Based on your description, the closest match I could find was a white oblong shaped pill marked with VP 120 on one side and blank on the other. It's reportedly identified as a Sulfamethoxazole (800mg) + Trimethoprim (160mg) DS tablet, used for treating a variety of bacterial infections. I realize the imprint isn't spot on, but because they are very similar, I have a strong feeling that they could be made by the same manufacturer (Vista Pharmaceuticals). Perhaps you can try contacting them directly for more specific details on whether VP 50 is something they make. The phone number/extension to reach them at is listed on their website as 973-736-1952/4457; based out of We...
Need to find broad spectrum antibiotics ASAP, or at least to know which kind is the best? Live in Houston TX. Infection spreading help. Doctors won't give what I know will work. ## Hi ron, What specific antibiotic are you inquiring about at the doctor's office? If one doctor isn't willing to give you what you feel might be best for the infection, perhaps it would be a good idea to ask this doctor why they think something else might be better suited for the type of infection you're dealing with. My guess is that it's probably for a very good reason, as some strains of bacteria are more resistant against certain antibiotics than others. And not to be mistaken for medical advice, but depending on the type of infection you have and how severe it is, another thought is to...

Hi , My neice was getting fever during nights continously for 3 to 4 days , when we took her to doctor and conducted blood tests malaia and typhoid tests are negative. Doctor has suggested monocef 1g iv/im injection twice a day for 5 days,. we took the dosage for 3 days. Now i want to know whether 2mg /day is too heavy for 4yrs kid. ## Hello, Bp! How is your nice doing? How much does she weigh? At that age, antibiotics are dosed by weight and then the total amount is split in several doses, just like what the doctor has instructed you to do. And no, that actually isn't an unusual amount, at all. The FDA classifies this medication as being an antibiotic and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
I AM ALERGY TO PENICILLIN AND I WAS GIVEN CEPHALEXIN TO TREAT A BOIL ABSSES,WOULD IT HAPPEN SOMETHING TO ME?? ## Hello, Jose! How are you? No, Cephalexin is the active ingredient in this, it doesn't contain any Penicillin. However, there is still a slight risk that you may be allergic to it, too. People allergic to one medication tend to be more prone to being allergic to others. The FDA classifies this medication as being an antibiotic that is most commonly used to treat or prevent bacterial infections. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I recently was put on ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily for 14 days for a possible prostate infection. Starting at the end of day 4 I started to get some neck stiffness/soreness. It is now day 5, and the soreness came back about 2 hours into the day. I've also gotten what I can only describe is some cramp-like pain in my back along my spine. The neck pain is pretty consistent, but the back pain is pretty few and far between. Any thoughts? Anything I should be worried about? ## Do not take this antibiotic. Google cipro side effects, or getting "floxed". It happened to me last yr. Crazy stuff Definitely get a different medicine ## I agree! Coprocessor is known for these side effects and they can be Permanant! I'm surprised it's still available? It also causes eye problem...
Can I take Doxycyline before dental fillings..I have knee and elbow metal replacements.. ## Hello, Mbe! How are you? Is this what your doctor has instructed you to take? Usually, the antibiotic given before dental work is Amoxicillin. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. It's usually just one dose, pre-procedure to prevent possible infection, similarly to what many heart patients take.
Does amox-clav cause black stools Kim ## Hello, Kim! How are you? No, that's not normal. Antibiotics can sometimes cause discoloration of the stools, such as making them green or clay colored, along with other side effects as listed by the FDA, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, black is not normal and, in many cases, signifies bleeding somewhere in the intestinal tract. Thus, it would best to have this checked out by your doctor immediately. How long have they been occurring?
Looking at all the allergic reactions to Bactrim. If there is any way you can use another antibiotic, do so. This medication is seriously dangerous. I say this as a nurse, and also as a victim of a sulfa allergy. I was put on Bactrim for a MRSA infection. Long story short... Developed aseptic viral meningitis for the Bactrim. Ended up in the hospital for four days. Worst illness ever!!!! Look for fevers, severe headache, stiff neck. It will also cause "thrush" or yeast in your mouth. Painful. Rashes, vomiting, and loss of appetite are also common side effects. Avoid this medication if at all possible. Especially if you are immunocompromised! ## From what I've researched online, Bactrim does have quite an intimidating list of side effects / allergic reactions associated with ...
I have had recurrent UTI's since getting married in November last year. I have been treated with different antibiotics several times. Now the doc has put me on nitrofur macro 100 mg for 6 months. Is this usual treatment for recurrent UTI's? Also would I develop resistance to it? ## Hello, Barbara! How are you? I'm sorry about the UTIs that you've been getting. Yes, this is the antibiotic that is typically prescribed in a low dose as a long-term preventative. It works well for many people to prevent them and the rate of developing resistance to it is not very high, however, if you do, there are many other antibiotics that you could take. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there ...
Need to know how much amoxicillin to give my 40 pound kid ## Hello, Al! How are you? You should give them the dosage their doctor prescribed. When under 12, it is usually dosed by their weight and according to the severity of the infection. The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. The dosage for a 40 pound child could range anywhere from 360mgs a day in divided doses to 540mgs a day in divided doses. I also strongly urge you not to try to diagnose yourself, because improper use of an antibiotic could result in them developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Is there anything else I can help with?
i have a script filled in 2010 that I didn't use. Can I still use thee capsules ## Hello, Bob! How are you? The FDA classifies Cephalexin as an antibiotic that's used to treat various bacterial infections. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, they do lose effectiveness once expired and you should just dispose of them. Taking them, when they aren't as effective, could create the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Is there anything else I can help with?
My son has a horrible cough for days now following an up and down temp. I have a few 500mg of Amoxicillin capsules from my recent dental root canal fun times. Is it alright for me to break the capsule and put a small dosage into his juice/food? He gets bad anxiety at the doctors office I'd like to spare him the upset if it's something I can take care of at home. ## Hello, Ally! How is your son doing? No, that's never a good idea. He may not have an infection, if he does this may not be the appropriate antibiotic to treat it, you could end up giving him too much or too little.. there are just too many risks involved. It would be best to see his doctor for a proper diagnosis and prescription, if necessary. The FDA classifies this medication as being an antibiotic and it's ...
