Bactrim Allergy
UpdatedLooking at all the allergic reactions to Bactrim. If there is any way you can use another antibiotic, do so. This medication is seriously dangerous.
I say this as a nurse, and also as a victim of a sulfa allergy.
I was put on Bactrim for a MRSA infection. Long story short... Developed aseptic viral meningitis for the Bactrim. Ended up in the hospital for four days.
Worst illness ever!!!! Look for fevers, severe headache, stiff neck. It will also cause "thrush" or yeast in your mouth. Painful.
Rashes, vomiting, and loss of appetite are also common side effects.
Avoid this medication if at all possible. Especially if you are immunocompromised!

From what I've researched online, Bactrim does have quite an intimidating list of side effects / allergic reactions associated with it's use. Most prescription antibiotics aren't an exception to this either, which can make it difficult to determine if the benefits are worth the risks, depending on how severe the infection is.
That's why I for one prefer to use essential oils (such as Melaleuca, Thyme, Oregano, and others) which have been scientifically proven to offer antibacterial properties that rival and even surpass the strength of various pharmaceutical preparations. The nice part is that they also strengthen the immune system instead of compromising it in the process of ridding bad bacteria.
Another downside to pharmaceutical antibiotics is that they can cause yeast infections... What good is an antibiotic if it solves one problem but creates another? For these reasons I think more patients who at least have the option to, should give mother nature a chance.
One other thing - allergies can happen with natural remedies too, so it may be a good idea to have an allergy test done before experimenting.
Research from PubMed on the antibacterial qualities of essential oils:
Thyme/Lavender Oil antibacterial properties: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22313307
Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca) for MRSA: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7782258
Oregano Oil antibacterial properties: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23484421
