I have infection in my leg and doctor prescribed the medication for me and told me that I have to take it for at least half year. I am wondering if it will hurt my liver and my stomach because I have never heard that one should take antibiotic for more than 21 days. ## Hello, Lil! How are you? No, sometimes for a severe infection, it is necessary to take an antibiotic for a very long time. Some people that are prone to infections take them daily, for life, as a preventative. The only hepatic issue of concern is if you already have impaired liver function. However, if yours is fine, then there shouldn't be anything to worry about. But feel free to discuss your concerns with your doctor to be sure. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headach...

I have 11 yr old, weighs 130, can I give amoxicillin 500mg? I have some from when I had throat infection. Her throat is hurting and currently no insurance ## Hello, Nena! How are you? You really need to get her to a doctor, if she's still not feeling well. Before you give an antibiotic, you need to be sure that it's an infection and, if it is, you have to make sure you have enough antibiotic to fully eradicate it. The general dosage at her age is 20 to 50mgs per kilogram of body weight, every 8 to 12 hours. The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can cephalexin cure chlamitia and can you take it if your allergic to anything ending in cillin? ## Hello, Cori! How are you? Cephalexin is generally not among the first choice treatments, since there are other antibiotics that are known to work faster to treat it. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, it may work, but you should only take it, if it has been prescribed to treat it by your doctor. And yes, it is in a different antibiotic class, but that doesn't necessary mean that you may not be allergic to it, as well. Usually those who are allergic to one medication have a higher risk of finding they allergic to others. Is there anything else I can help with?

My daughter was prescribed clindamycin for impetigo for 10 day/2pills/3 times daily. The pharmacy we have in our town doesn't provide the information sheets with prescriptions so I often times look up the meds myself. I read that when giving this medicine to children organ system function monitoring is desirable. Is that for long term usage or something I should push with my doctor now? Thanks. ## Hello, Sarah! How are you? First, if the pharmacy isn't giving you the information sheets, then they are not dispensing prescriptions properly. They are required to at least offer them to you, with every prescription. That can be reported to your state pharmacy board and they will made to correct this issue. And yes, it does say that they doctor should monitor organ system function in ...

Also what is happening and what will my doctor do for this ## Hello, Reynolds! How are you? I'm sorry about the way you're feeling. I was wondering if amoxicillin really goes bad or does it just lose it's strength? ## It is not one of the antibiotics that becomes dangerous, once it's expired, but yes, it does start to lose effectiveness, which creates the risk of it not fully eradicating bacteria and its developing antibiotic resistance. I have been prescribed this (amox tr-k clv) for an outbreak of boils....I had the same outbreak 3 yrs ago and the doc said (without testing) that it could be MRSA. (My son actually did have MRSA at the same time this was going on). Will this stuff work if in fact it is MRSA? ## Hello, Scott! How are you? I have been on Levaquin quite a lot over the last few years due to chronic bronchitis and sinus infections. I have, in addition to, muscle and nerve pain, have had some unusual issues and wonder if they are related to the Levaquin. I have noticed my lips are somewhat swollen and burning; additionally, my vagina feels like it is on fire as well. My face itches but no rash. I have been on Levaquin, since last fall, 2 months straight of 500mg per day to clear sinus infection. Then this winter I was on it 3 times for 10 days and once again last month for 10 days. I don't think it is really helping me and I know I am having problems from it. I had nose surgery 4 years ago and contracted MRSA after it. Since then they always put me on Levaquin.
