I just wanted to add that my doctor also said you can not take all medicines out of their capsules as it can be very dangerous to do this with certain drugs but I was fine doing this with amoxicillin. I have copd and have developed bronchitis over the last week or so. I am allergic to penicillin. My doctor believes the bronchitis is bacterial and has prescribed a medication that the prescription insert says "May cause serious lung problems. Tell your doctor if you develop a cough, shortness of breath, or chest pain" all of which I have with copd and bronchitis. He also prescribed 5 days of prednisone and a pro air inhaler. What would be the best antibiotic given this information. Would it still be good to take for an upper respiratory infection after 05/08/2015? ## Medications do tend to lose efficacy over time, so there is a chance that it may no longer adequately kill of all bacteria to eradicate the infection, thus, it would be best to see your doctor for a new prescription. In the US I am prescribed Xifaxan 550mg made by Salix Pharmaceuticals twice daily to prevent hepatic encephalitis (very dangerous disorder caused by liver disease). The problem is this drug costs $1,800 USD per month, which I cannot afford. However, through reputable Canadian pharmacies carry Rifaximin 550 mg made by Lupin Limited of Idia for only $130 USD per month. My best research seems to indicate that these are the exact same drug but that Lupin licensed the US sales and marketing rights to Salix, thus the dramatic price differential. Can anyone confirm that Rifaximin 550 is the EXACT same drug as Xifaxan 550? My life depends upon finding an affordable and safe substitute. can bactrim be sued in treating tonsillitis. I was given a prescription at an urgent care clinic for tonsillitis but have only used this in the past for urinary tract infections. ## If the dr. believes that Streptococcus is the cause of your tonsillitis (one of the most comon) then yes.
