I have been taking 10 mg ofr Amlodipine Besylate. My problem is that it tastes horrible. Are there any of these in the generic that are coated. I gag every time I have to take this pill. Any information would be appreciated so I can ask my doctor for a pill specific if there is one!

I don't know of any that are coated, but what I can tell you is that if you are tasting it, then you probably aren't taking it properly.
Whenever you take medication, it should be places as far back in your mouth/throat, as possible, without choking yourself and immediately swallowed with a full 8 ounce glass of water.
If you are tasting it, there is a good chance that you are either letting it sit in your mouth for too long, or not swallowing it with enough liquid to wash it down.
If you are doing it properly and it is still a problem, then you should definitely contact your doctor.

I have the same exact problem and plan on talking to my pharmacist and doctor about the dilemma. It starts to dissolve immediately after putting it on the back of your tongue and is SO disgusting in taste!

this pill has hit the back of my throat 3 times and burned it. It was so painful the effect lasted all night. I nearly called an ambulance. I cannot take it again. Please tell me if there is a coated one.

Let's see-- should I drink 64 ounces of water in the morning or put all 8 of my meds in my mouth at one time, making sure the amlodipine is last? Is there anyone taking this medication that doesn't have this problem? There is a real need for a coated version!

I put the Amplodipine in half a glass of water. It will dilute in 2 sec. Then I can drink it without problems.
I have asked a pharmacist and there should be no problem to do it my way.

I've hate the taste of this med. And like the rest of you...it doesn't go down easily and will burn the throat. Because of its rough texture it keeps catching somewhere in my mouth no matter how much water I drink. So finally I started spritzing some spray butter on it. Works wonders.

I took my blood pressure at 9:30 am & read 156/87 & felt dizzy. I took my amlodipine 5 mg at 9:30am. I'm supposed to take my 2nd 5 mg amlodipine now in the afternoon, but my bp is 128/78. Should I still take my 2nd dose of amlodipine?
