I have been prescribed this drug today due to having painful nerve endings in the face.Is this a good drug for this type of pain?I need something to stop the pain.Fingerscrossed ## Well this was originally approved as an antidepressant, which later was found to help with some types of nerve pain. Whether it will help you or not, is something that no one can guess. These types of medications are great for some people, and don't work at all for others. All you can do is try it for a couple of weeks and see if it helps you. ## Sharon - I hope you read this. If you divide your face into 4 quarters, from ear to ear thru your nose and from chin to your fore head thru your nose, and you find that your pain is in one of these quarters there is a good chance you suffer from trigeminal neural...

I have been taking 100 mg of tramadol twice daily for a bit over a month. I have tried numerous times to wean off the medication but am having a hard time. Now my GP doc will not refill the prescription after 2 refills. I have recently been prescribed Amitriptyline 50 mg per night to help with sleep and pain by my neurologist. I'd like to know whether amitriptyline might help with horrible withdrawal I'm experiencing in day 2? I will never take Tramadol again because of how dependent my body got on it. I told husband that dealing with my head and neck pain is better than my experience with Tramadol. Does anyone have experience taking Amitriptyline to detoxify from the Tramadol? ## It may be beneficial for you to take an antidepressant, at least for a few weeks, to help the withd...

I mix amitriptyline hci 25mg with alchohol. Is it ok? ## No, it's not recommended that you mix prescription drugs and the consumption of alcohol. IT can cause aggravation of the side effects, so you can experience more nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual. Thus one drink may affect you like two normally would and so on. I have been reducing my tablets from Jan. of this year after been on them on 50mg at night for lack of sleep. I was told that when I tried before to come off it was a relapse I was having, instead I now believe these were withdrawal symptoms. I am now down to 20mg and will be going down a quarter of a tablet after Christmas. It has to be slow, when I am on the last one it will have to be slower yet. After every cut a leveling off is very important. The last reduction was three months ago. I do not like the feeling in my chest so I decided to go down very slow now and so far have no problem but the danger is when one comes off too quick. ## You are correct! Though technically what you experienced if you stopped taking them too abruptly before was a rebound effect, rather than a relapse o...

Can i take amitriptyline with methotrexate and prednisone? ## Based on my findings there is an interaction between methotrexate and prednisone. This interaction states the following: "MONITOR: Although they are often used together in clinical practice, limited data suggest that corticosteroids may increase the risk of methotrexate toxicity. Individual cases of severe and fatal bone marrow suppression and fatal systemic moniliasis have been reported. Data have been conflicting. A pediatric study found no increased methotrexate toxicity; however, hepatic enzyme elevations were noted. The mechanism is unknown. MANAGEMENT: Close monitoring for signs and symptoms of bone marrow suppression and nephrotoxicity is advisable during concomitant administration. Patients should be advised to re...

I suffer from cluster headaches and I was put back on Amitriptyline 10MG for this. I just found out I am pregnant yesterday. Do I need to stop taking this medicine? Please say that it wont hurt anything. ## Hi Mellisa - sorry to hear about your cluster headaches, but congratulations on your pregnancy! While I don't want you to be too alarmed, Amitriptyline is in pregnancy category D in the USA which states "There is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience or studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks." So in other words, your doctor needs to be made aware of your pregnancy ASAP (if you haven't already told them) so that they can m...

I did it several years ago, upon finding out that I never needed the medication to begin with, we were just treating side effects from another medication and the effects of cloudy head and fatigue lasted about 5 to 6 weeks for me, after taking them for 6 years.
