My mother suffered two strokes and numerous TIAs. Resulting deficites were: aphasia, confusion, poor cognition, poor memory, secondary severe emotional distress, sleep problems which seemed to exacerbate stroke disabilities. Treatment with 6mg Hydergine FAS (enteric coated) resulted in remission of all her stroke symptoms. Her speech, cognition, memory emotional status were perfect, Melatonin 3 to 5mg just prior to bedtime seemed to restore good sleep and appeared to be an important part of her remarkable recovery. ## john how long did your mom take to get results like these and how long after her strokes was it before she started on the hydergine and do think the fas is superior? ## Hello John, my boyfriend suffered a severe 18+ ischemic stroke on October 19th. I am trying to get his d...

One professional suggested that the use of Aricept may be causing elevated stress for Mom (age 86) as she progresses through the stages of dementia. If we eliminate the Aricept, what changes could I expect? ## How long has she been taking it? It's really difficult to say, most medications like this aren't studied for such effects, but most do cause some rebound, which means her symptoms may worsen for awhile. She may also have some withdrawal effects, such as nausea and diarrhea. Did you ask the doctor about this?

My mother (86yrs) started on exelon 4.6 4 weeks ago. She suffers from bronchiectasis on one lung and I feel like her breathing has worsened since using the patches. Initially - as its coughs and colds season- the GP put her on anti biotics and high steroid dosage (6 per day) but 10 days later she has worsened. As of today 6th Jan, she is on the 9.5 patches. I have read it can cause breathing problems. Any other experiences or advice please on this, as the GP doesnt think it is Exelon related. Thanks in advance ## Thank you. Sadly, she has now passed away. But I am grateful to forums like this. Its a place to turn when nobody else seems to be listening

Does the company who makes Ancept for memory loss offer any funding help? My doctor gave me a prescription for it and when I went to purchase it at the pharmacy, I was told it cost $260 or close to it. I cannot afford to take it and don't know what to do. Thanks for any advice. ## Did you mean Aricept? If so, it is manufactured by Pfizer and yes, they do have a program for those without prescription insurance. My mother is in her third month of taking Namenda. She is wanting to sleep all the time. She is one that was an early riser and early to bed, but now she gets up whenever I call to check on her. I go over during the day and she's usually asleep. This has been going on for about 4 or 5 weeks. Namenda is her only medication. Could this be the reason for her wanting to sleep? ## One of the side effects of Namenda is drowsiness. Perhaps your mother is more susceptible to this particular side effect. I suggest that you contact her physician to let him know about her sleep habits and ask if perhaps he needs to adjust the dosage, or if this drug may not be appropriate for her. By the way, other side affects include the following: confusion, dizziness, headache, insomnia, agitation, and/or ...

My dad 68 was diagnosed with dementia 3 yrs ago,he has been prescribed Donamem10,but recently due to a worrysome ecg it was reduced to 5mg.l want to know if it is a side effect of this medicine and if reducing it to 5 mg will have a downside. ## Unless someone else on here can reply with their own personal experience on Donamem, I really think this is something you would need to discuss with his doctor. No one over the internet can possibly know his medical history or how this drug affects him at different doses, as well as the internal benefits or disadvantages that it provides him. I had a difficult time locating substantial information on this drug, however I found that the most common side effects tend to be dizziness and headache. Hope this helps some!

My Neurologist has suggested Ebixa as a possibility for migraine prophylaxis. Is there any information about its use for migraine? Where can I find some information? Thanks for your help. I am not finding any specific details on it being used for migraine prevention, either, however, your doctor is allowed to prescribe something off-label, according to his experience. I have been told by my doctor that Duxil has been banned in Egypt due to the bad side effects is this true or not. ## While the info I found is not relevant to Egypt, apparently it has been banned in China. "The SFDA ordered the suspension of the production, sales and use of Duxil (almitrine and raubasine), a dementia drug from France’s Servier, due to its "unobvious" efficacy. The SFDA said, clinical research found "little" evidence proving the drug effectively improves the cognitive ability for patients suffering vascular cognitive impairment. The drug was supposed to treat symptoms related to cognition and sensory nerve damage. The moves came after a two-month nationwide campaign was launched earlier this month to probe the quality of essential ...

What is the proper way to take this pill? Should I let it dissolve on my tongue before I swallow it? ## There are two different versions of Donepezil, so it depends which one you have. There is one that is an orally disintegrating tablet and there is another that is intended to be swallowed just like a normal tablet. What instructions did your doctor or pharmacy give you? The orally disintegrating tablet should have something that follows the medication name, such as ODT.
