Alcohol And Klonopin

Hi. I take Klonopin maybe four times per month. It isn't a regular medication for me, only for occasional anxiety I get due to a minor heart condition. I took a 2mg tablet yesterday afternoon because it was one of those bad days. It had been at least two weeks since the last time. But, I didn't think about a pool party today and would like to have a few beers. I have read tons about this issue and now would welcome comments from people who may have experience with it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but according to the National Institute of Health clonazepam (Klonopin) has a half-life of 30 to 50 hours. This means that it takes between 30 and 50 hours for your body to metabolize half of the drug that is in your system. It is generally accepted that it takes at least 5 half-life cycles for your body to completely metabolize a drug. This means that in order for you to safely consume alcohol you would need to wait approximately 5 days.

Reportedly it is dangerous to mix alcohol and clonazepam because both are CNS depressants. Konopin by itself has little chance of causing respritory depression but when combined with alcohol or any other CNS depressants the risk is greatly increased. Listed below are other known issues of mixing alcohol with clonazepam.

- Decreased mental alertness
- Respiratory depression
- Hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Profound sedation
- Coma

Hopefully this information helps and you can safely enjoy the pool party without having a few beers.
