Alcohol And Gabapentin (Page 9) (Top voted first)
UpdatedDoes anyone drink beer or other alcohol while taking this? I start on it tonight, increasing every 5 days to 900 mg total a day. I'm curious as to how much alcohol can be tolerated and if there are any reasons to avoid it completely. I like my Budweiser. Thanks for any input.
Re: James (# 157)
That's not true James I take 2400 mg a day 800 mg 3 times a day alcohol does not mix with me at all it makes me sick it makes me nasty and I don't like it because I know it could kill you with this medicine you can dabble if you like but it's no joke
Re: Charmaine (# 160)
Anyone know whether Gabapentin has any contraindications in the presence of Covid-19?
Re: Darren (# 8)
I take 1200 a day and drink 10 oz of vodka per night. Neuropathy is my problem. It sucks.
Re: Annie (# 9)
Yes, gabapentin will cause severe depression and or changes in mood and orientation. I went through it. Family and friends started noticing me not acting the same. My worrying got out of control. Was not acting like myself. It can be very dangerous to some and others tolerate it. Getting off of it was even harder. I was one who couldn’t tolerate it. My opinion is that if ur feeling depressed already to talk to dr. Or do some research into what has happened to some coming off of it.
Hi reading about gabapentin it says it seems ok but at 900 mg I'd be very careful to limit alcohol at only a couple pints incase
Oh boy I just took
ibuprofen 800 gabapentin and I'm drinking alcohol I don't even realize what I'm going to feel like later
I take .25 klonopin a day, am prescribed 1 300mg twice a day and two at bedtime gabapentin (but only take 1-2 at bedtime)because I have been afraid of it making me too sleepy during the day and I am scared of medications high doses scare me and the doctors in my town suck. I am also prescribed .1mg of clonodine once a day and three at night. Again I only take 2-3 pills at bedtime because I am afraid of high doses and day time drowsiness that's stronger than what I already have. And lastly I am prescribed 20mg paxil once a day. I had a lot of bad reactions to it so have tapered myself back down to 10mg and have been trying to contact my doctor. I drink a few times a week. Usually wine or blue moon but will have fun mixed drinks when I go to the bar. I am 21 year old female with extreme anxiety and feel as though I am on wayyyy too much medication for my age. I am always achey and sore my nerves are shot and my back kills from scholiocis. Even my hips hurt sometimes ?! I get scared and freak myself out often when drinking because I was so unsure about how dangerous they all are to mix especially all 4 together. I have not noticed any violence or diference in the way I act when drinking. Still a happy friendly drunk . I just notice I get drunk a lot faster.. Anyone else take more than this one medication and drink ? ~B
First of all you are on Gabapentin that your Dr. perscribed to help for seizures, or depression, or any types of pain and a array of conditions. I don't know what you are being treated for but you should take the medication to get well. Be more responsible about drinking alcohol with any medication. Alcohol is a depressant so you are defeating the purpose of the medication. Talk to your Dr. about quitting the alcohol instead of mixing it with Gabba. Big d
I got on this forum and thread through a Google search. Mainly - I want to know if I'm damaging my liver or any other vital organ when I continue to drink and take gabapentin. I love my liver and don't drink with Percocet or any other acetaminophen drug..
Basically what I'm reading here is common sense to not drive etc. when the two are combined. Also that the g* may increase the effects of alcohol. If so...BRING IT ON! I don't need the extra calories and drink for the effect.
I'm on a daily regimen of 300 mg g* daily (one capsule) but am prescribed 1-3 tablets daily. I save back the extras and pop 3 when I need the extra calming effect. I haven't experienced any negative side effects. Just checking on the organ damage info.
I take gabapentin 500mg once a day, just wondering if I can drink on this?? My doctor prescribed this to me because I have ADD a minor case of it. The other ADD medicines I've tried gave me anxiety, my doctor told me this medicine will help with my ADD, anxiety, and help with my sleeplessness... I take them before I go to bed every night. I just turned 21, so I want to know if drinking is okay!
I have to say, I have never heard of the Sinclair method, but after reading up on it, it is extremely interesting and something I could see benefiting myself as a 27 year old alcoholic. I have been drinking heavily since 18 and have stopped and relapsed many many times. Thanks for this post.
Also, I take gabepentin. I. Prescribed 300mg a day, but usually take more like 3g (3000mg). Alcohol has never affected the gabapentin, other than intensifying the drinking. I wake up the same and go to work the same.
I am of Northern Europe American descent, 47 yrs old, 5'3", 140lbs. I am on 700 mg gabapentin but trying to stick to 600 mg. My doc said to move it up to 900 mg for high-stress events. I drink 2 beers a day, supplemented with additional alcohol when I'm ultra stressed. I have noticed that my alcohol consumption, which I do purely for stress-relieving purposes, is LESS effective at higher gabapentin doses. Meaning - when I am at 900 mg a day, it's as if the 2 beers are water. Seriously. And yet I'm still stressed. So, as an anxiety med, I'm not sure what to make of it. My gabapentin use has been for purely social anxiety, but the gabapentin hasn't fixed that, so maybe the anxiety is not actually purely social?
I don't know. But I DO know that, in trying to address my anxiety with gabapentin, I have found that adding alcohol doesn't work. For me, the higher the gabapentin dose, the less effective the alcohol. So I've actually lowered my dose to 600 mg so that the alcohol could work as an anti-anxiety med (because alcohol IS that, for me). I've been concerned about the physiological effects of alcohol plus gabapentin, but other than my notice of the lack-of-effect of alcohol, the gabapentin is fine.
Just to let everyone know I take gabapentin recreationally. Although it's not a scheduled drug at high doses there are noticeable effects. Anyways, I combined a recreational dose of gaba with tons of alcohol. I got slap drunk as hell. The gabapentin formed a weird combination and being drunk was a little different. Anyways no headache or anything like that the next morning and also no blackout
Are you sure it's safe I'm very petite and I'm also taking 3600 mg a day but I like to drink occasionally
I've been taking 1200 gabapentine for years now and drank quite heavily. I had no side effects whatsoever. I also stopped drinking abruptly and again I suffered nothing.
Don't be a pussy. If anything you'll feel more elated from just a couple drinks. I don't reccommend you polish a liter or more while on it. I think you'll live. Sources: I'm prescribed it too
iam taking 3000mg a day and drink heavy no problems
