Adderall Shortages 2011

I am 34 yrs old, and have had ADHD since I was a child. My ADHD has finally been controlled with Adderall, and quality of life has been so much better!!! Other drugs have given me terrible side effects, and was so happy that Adderall works for me, with no side effects. Now, I am unable to get it as there are severe drug shortages??? Who do I write to to complain about this??? Finally a drug that works for me, and I can't get it.

Hi Sam - yes, there have been a shortages of Adderall lately. Reasons cited by the FDA include everything from API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) supply issues, to increase in demand, to uneven product distribution patterns.

The FDA's page on Drug Shortages includes Amphetamine Mixed Salts, both immediate and extended release, on their list.

Contacting the manufacturer might be a good place to start. So, depending on the dosage you are taking, as well as whether it is the immediate or extended release, that would help to determine who to contact.

I suppose you could try all of them, and see if any of the manufacturers have adequate supply available yet. I'd also check with several local pharmacies to see if and when supplies are coming in. I wish I had more definitive information, but at this point it appears to be hit or miss.
