Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 55)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

Purely my opinion but Sandoz has worked well after Actavis refill failed. Supposedly Sandoz brand generic of Adderall has a lot less filler.

I talked to my pharmacist and was told my Adderall come from same place for the last year and no changes. He suggested I send message to Pharmacore since that is where the Teva Adderall is manufactured from. I tried to find the Pharmacore page to send a message and no luck with even finding a page to get their contact information to send email. I'm not getting my Rx filled from them again.

It's insane. The filers or something is 100% different. They're so hard to break which wasn't the case before. I'm sleepy 1,5h after taking 30mg IR

Any recommendations of another brand?

I guess this is my "final" follow up on my bad experience. Got the letter from Teva/Actavis. They tested batch and found nothing outside of the norm. It has to be a lie. My experience makes zero sense if their claim is valid. Hoping the fda does their own testing. I've updated my complaint with the fda with their info and my experiences, hopefully it throws a red flag to check themselves.

I totally agree. Sara Ada, you are 100% correct and this isnt the only company it seems. I had the last two refills that was so ineffective, I feel like I am getting placebo medicine. I. Notified my Lead Pharmisust, apparently I was not the only one complaining, therefore my Pharmacist said he would no longer order from that mfr, and would use another co if possible so we the customerd can now have a different "unbrand" from another manufacturer.

What do I ask for? I have used Teva from Duane Reed for almost 2 years now, and they've been great up until 6 months ago, now I feel they're even worse. The pills look the same as they've always done ( orange oval 30IR) but are now super hard to break which wasn't the case before.
Would gladly try a different kind/brand

Thank you

Google pharmacy locations in your town, state & zip code. You will get several choices unless it's a very small town.

I just completed FDA report about my Adderall 30 distributed by Teva no longer works and in fact causes increase in tiredness. Not sure where to go since I have used the same pharmacy for years.

Since my first ever post on this site, I have always claimed that all manufacturers that produce a generic Adderall...that all of them are effective if the correct dose is found by the person taking the medication. Finding it requires a trial & error process and in my humble opinion is 100% the patient's responsibility.

The doctors & psychiatrists do their best to give us a starting point...i.e. 20mg Core Pharma IR 3x's daily or Actavis generic Adderall XR.

This starting point, in my personal experience, is not where I find the right dose that gets me to the place I do best on Adderall. I start with 5mg up and also down. This dosage swing usually gets my generic Adderall "to work". Only one generic, Sandoz, required more than a 5mg change. I needed 12.5 mg more of Sandoz for it "to work".

Another tip to get your Adderall "to work"... After 15 months, I noticed my Teva/Core/Aurobindo/Actavis/Sandoz generic Adderall slowly "not working" as well as months 1 through 13. Luckily, I have a really good, not expensive, but good & thorough psychiatrist. Her opinion is that after a period of time on Adderall, that most individuals will need a mood stabilizer such as Lamactil and Vraylar as she prescribed for me. She said I should start to notice my generic Adderall "working" again. Immediately I'm not buying what she's trying to sell me and I damn sure don't want to add 2 more medications to my already current trio of Adderall, Zoloft & Clonazepam.

So my attitude is terrible going into day one of taking these 2 new medications. 100% nocebo. (Look it up)

But damned if she wasn't right. My Adderall is working as well now as it did in months 1 & 2. I was able to find this solution because I ask questions. I take ownership of my Adderall Experience. I don't meekly accept the words of pharmacists and even my shrink, who I like. I do this politely and respectfully, but you do have the right to ask "Why? Why do you say that, doc? Which generic Adderall do you have on hand, Ms. Pharmacist." No thanks, I prefer a different generic. I try to live a life based on facts and information. Not opinions and 2nd hand information. Try it for yourself if what you're doing now isn't working.

Very important: this post is not intended to be taken as medical advice or to be used to diagnose any medical condition.
This is simply my personal Experience with generic Adderall.

Don't start with that BS. TEVA brand of Generic Adderall sucks. NO ONE I REPEAT NO ONE GET TEVA Generic BRAND OF ADDERALL! You will be disappointed. Get Pharma Generic Brand of Adderall instead, it is much better.

Teva brand does nothing.

Following up about my experience a few weeks ago with a bad refill from Actavis. Got all the info from pharmacy, they had no complaints yet from others. Actavis finally called me back and they would test the batch/lot and send me a letter in about a month with results; should be any day now. Got a refill through CVS Pharmacy since they had a generic through Sandoz. First day taking Sandoz generic after weeks of hell on Actavis refill was like going from 0 to 100. Dry mouth kicked in really hard in about 30 minutes. 10-15 minutes after that, I started getting extremely jittery. Took a few hours for it to start 'cooling off' but it definitely validated something had to be wrong in that batch/lot. I kept taking the 40mg Actavis until switching to 40mg Sandoz. Side effects leveled off to usual drier mouth and appetite suppressed. The positive benefits returned and haven't had any episodes of depression or severe anxiety since then.

i received the prasco lab 30mg xr, worst ever! bad anxiety, moody, cloudy head, agitated, and depressed. I had better luck with the activas generic brand that comes in an all orange capsule. I talked to my insurance and they said that i should only be getting the brand name one, so i dont know whats up. But that prasco lab one i will never take again, id rather get kicked in the nuts.

Hi Ash, where do you live? I was at a new mom and pop pharmacy (here in Central FL) that my dr. recommended, and they carry Sandoz. I personally don't notice differences between generics anymore, but I did a few years ago. Maybe try smaller pharmacies in your area? Sorry your son is going through the effects of inconsistent generics. Hope that helps!

Google Translate (may not be 100% accurate):

For my experience, amphetamine derivatives; at least most of them, should be ingested after the 'afternoon snack' or early evening. No food, preferably, or a few hours after. Even for a 'short time', they seem to 'wash the mind' from the inside; provided it does not have 'cognitive stress' commitments, overnight or the next day. It seems, at times, to act on some part of the brain, in a manner similar to 'antibiotics'. Taking a 'short time' initially seems to activate 'working as a normal person', to the point of making it easier to leave them after certain important 'resolutions' such as work, study, personal organization, etc. . It occurs when, for a variety of reasons, we find it very difficult to perform simple tasks such as 'sending curricula, going to the dentist' even with inflamed teeth, programming something useful, and not working with 'other medications' such as clonazepam , and other benzodiazepines, for these indications, even associated with other 'classes of medicines', I think that for 'certain organisms', prescription may be useful provided that the person does not have 'serious problems' of the heart, seizures, etc. For some people, it can even aggravate, but nothing that can be called 'irreversible'. Already other people do not feel better, and also 'go bad', after ingesting such 'principle-assets'. In this case, I do not think it is recommendable.

This is an update to the Prasco brand Adderall XR post I wrote earlier this week in which I reported that it didn't work for me AT ALL but had bad side effects eerily similar to those I experienced on Activas brand XR a couple of years ago. Here goes, for those interested.

I called Prasco on Monday and spoke to two people in the pharmacological dept. who were very professional and sympathetic. They wanted the lot number which I had to obtain from the pharmacy, and Prasco said they would report it to Shire, along with other complaints they had gotten recently. Prasco only markets/sells it -- it is an authorized generic supplied by Shire, and Prasco told me it is the same thing as the name brand Adderall XR by Shire.

I then called Shire and spoke to someone in their medical area. I wanted to confirm that the name brand Adderall XR by Shire really is the exact same thing as the Prasco authorized generic, because then I would know not to throw more money down the drain to obtain a script for the brand name (in hopes I would respond better to it, as I had in the distant past). The Shire person was also very nice and professional -- and I'm sure telling me what she could within the parameters she was allowed. She said that Shire does manufacture and ship this generic Prasco brand and that it is the same as name brand, however, when pressed, she added that generics undergo different FDA standards than the brand. I kept asking for clarification on this, phrasing it differently each time, such as, "So they are NOT the exact same, correct?", and she just kept repeating that it undergoes different FDA standards than the brand, and also stated they are bio equivalent. I wonder if that means is that they can use different fillers, etc. What do you all think?

As I said in my first post, I also had seen in a press release news item from June 2016 that Prasco would take over the marketing of the authorized generic of Adderall XR from Teva (since Teva had made a deal to market the Activas brand, and had to relinquish the Shire deal.) The release stated, "Upon closing of its transaction with Teva, Prasco will immediately take over the distribution of the product, providing a seamless transition for both customers and patients." The release states the drug is "therapeutically equivalent" to the name brand. Is that the same as "bio equivalent" as the Shire person said?

That press release statement would lead one to think that the Prasco XR brand would be the exact same thing as Teva's was at least, as it said it would be a "seamless" transition, but I never had a bad reaction to Teva XR -- only to Activas, which Teva now markets. (Caution: Conspiracy Alert ahead!) All this info leads me to believe that I may have gotten the Activas brand. There is really no one in this wild west pharma world, including the FDA, that seems to care about protecting us from fraud, or at the very least confusion, probably because as long as the drug can somehow pass as "therapeutically equivalent" it is all a-okay. Oh, and mainly as long as investors are happy.

I know this is a long post, and I sound paranoid and obsessed on this subject, which I am, but I am pretty worked up about all this because it is seriously messing with my ability to function like a normal person and thus my livelihood and mental state.

I was going to ask my doctor for a new script for name brand adderall xr, but I found out my insurance will not cover it, (because we have these wonderful generic equivalents) and it is super expensive -- approx. $275 or more, and it would not count against my very large deductible.

So, my doctor suggested Vyvanse. I took it a long time ago and had to stop due to cost. I also found I preferred Adderall XR which was more affordable. Vyvanse will be nearly as costly to me now as Adderall XR brand, but at least the insurance will count it towards my deductible since there is no brand name equivalent. My doctor also gave me a Shire card for a free 30 day supply of Vyvanse, which was great I didn't have to shell out more money this month.

So far, the Vyvanse is working well. Definitely makes me feel normal, but I don't have that "kick in the pants" motivation to start tasks as I did with Adderall when it worked.

I hope this helps someone. Please let me know your experiences.

U27 is the generic Adderall made by Aurobindo. Not 100% sure, but I believe U27 would be the 10mg. Personally, I've had much success with U30/20mg and U31/30mg from Aurobindo

Brittany, Thanks for sharing that -- sorry you are having trouble with it too, but misery loves company. I'm not sure what to do now either. I need to get in to see my doctor and get some guidance. I didn't even take a dose today b/c it had made me feel so awful. I will report back.

I read that Shire hopes to be introducing this year a new medicine -- like a 16 hour version of Adderall called Shp 465. They are about to lose their patent on Adderall and their Vyvanse can go generic in several years, so this would shore things up. New conspiracy theory: maybe they are allowing the authorized generics to be inadequate so we will all flock to the new drug!

I am currently taking the Prasco generic xr brand too. I feel the same way when I first take it with my heart. I thought maybe it was a bad batch for me also because it seems so inconsistent each day. For me, it does not seem to even last more than a few hours.I notice I am forgetting things like how I do off of the medicine and not concentrating well. I have also tried many different generic brands and never had these types of problems. I will be calling different pharmacies to see if they have a different brand and if they do not, I might have to try Vyvanse.

Has anyone had their prescription filled with the Prasco generic brand for Adderall XR? I take 30 mg and I just started on this script four days ago. There is not the usual cognitive improvement -- none actually! I'm just my natural unmedicated foggy and scatterbrained self. And I had the pleasure of paying $95 for this experience! While the Prasco XR did nothing for my brain, within the first hour of taking it each morning I've had a sense of impending doom, with slight heart palpitations and I feel that my blood pressure is rising. That only lasts a short while thankfully, but then as the day progresses I get a massive headache and am very irritable and tired. I also feel depressed and discouraged, as normally generic Adderall XR greatly helps me to have the motivation and wherewithal to carry out my daily responsibilities. I get plenty of sleep, exercise and eat a super healthy diet, so that is not the problem. My last prescription was unfortunately Mylan because I forgot to ask what brand they had before I filled it, and as crappy as that brand is, it did help me focus and concentrate some till lunchtime at least, and it didn't make me feel physically awful like this Prasco brand. I have been on most all of the Adderall XR 30 generic brands over the years that I've been prescribed this drug. I have had batches that have been ineffective before, but only one other time it caused the disturbing physical symptoms I have experienced now, and that was with the Activas XR brand a couple of years ago. Now I am wondering -- since (as I understand it from news articles) Teva is no longer selling it's brand -- it is selling the Activas brand -- and Prasco is now selling the "authorized generic" Teva brand, perhaps what I now have in hand is actually Activas. The capsules appear to be Teva's though but as far as what's inside, I never opened an Activas capsule in the past to see if the medication looked the same as Teva's so I can't compare the actual medication appearances. I suppose what I have is Teva XR and not Activas XR, but with all the pharma corporate gyrations and recalls of the past year, I feel like I'm entitled to a conspiracy theory. Please let me know of your experience with the Prasco brand generic Adderall XR, and if it had the same effect as the Teva brand you have taken in the past since they are supposedly one and the same now. FYI, I believe that if you get an Activas prescription, the brand would be listed with the pharmacist as "Teva/Activas" or just "Activas", whereas, Prasco is just listed as Prasco, but it is supposedly the old Teva (prior to Activas acquisition). Thanks!
