Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 20) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

If Sandoz is not still discontinued, I have had success with CVS. They will order Sandoz specially if you go in (no phone calls) with the hard copy of your script and ask nicely. It will take a few extra days to arrive.

Try not to come across as demanding or entitled. That will get you nowhere.

I have learned that even the smallest effort to build rapport with your pharmacist or any damn pharmacist does not go unnoticed by that pharmacist and your chances of special orders and the like increase dramatically.

If Teva and CorePharma haven't worked, one option is Aurobindo which is usually what almost all CVS' have on hand as their generic Adderall.

I have had much success with it and would recommend it to anyone.

Aurobindo is tricky though regarding dosage. 25mg of Core & Teva worked for me, but with Aurobindo I need 30mg IR.
Try not to read too much into the hate for Aurobindo you'll see on chats and forums.
I've taken generic Adderall long enough to realize that everyone hates every generic at some point.

I was that guy early on. Worried that only one specific generic would work for me and if I couldn't find it, I was doomed to hell for the next month.

For me, minor adjustments in dosage has changed my opinion on generic Adderall. Positively changed!

They all work for me once I find the correct dose through trial & error.
Up or down 5mg or even less should show immediate results. Although once, oddly enough with Sandoz, my correct dose was 10mg more than my doc prescribed...so I had to let Sandoz go.

Be diligent about taking it one hour before or after food intake. Makes a big difference in absorption & retention.

I want to share my Adderall experience for the many of us who think Teva or Aurobindo or CorePharma or any other generic Adderall manufacturers are the cause of all our success and/or failure taking this medication.

My first day taking Adderall was December 4, 2015. That day marked the ending of the Ed that had been labeled lazy, undisciplined, unmotivated, a can't finish anything, irresponsibile loser since grade school. And they were right on the money with that assessment.

I now have accumulated a good piece of time and experience with generic Adderall. For the record, I have always taken generic Adderall. Never brand. Always IR. Never XR.

These are my own personal conclusions about the medication and nothing more than that. Got it?

1. The most important thing for me to get my Adderall "to work" is finding through trial and error what milligram dose of each manufacturer's generic is right for me.
My best is example is...20mg of Actavis was not equal to 20mg of Sandoz. I needed 30-35mg of Sandoz to get to the same place as 20mg of Actavis. I have taken 5 different generics of Adderall...(the usual suspects..Teva, Core, etc.
My point is eventually I was able to get to my desired Adderall effect by adjusting many, many times the milligram up or down. And eventually all of the generics "work" they just require a little adjusting of the dosage.

2. My experience outside the actual medication....the changing of lifestyle and changing habits is crucial. I cannot overstate this enough!!
When I am doing the best on Adderall my diet is mainly vegetables, fruit, nuts and water. My exercise is daily. My nights sleep is 6-8 hours.

My alcohol consumption is very low when Adderall is working well.
I eliminate almost 100% of fatty, acidic foods. No fast food ever.
I cannot overstate how important diet, exercise, sleep are in maximizing Adderall.

I don't take my dose at the same time, day after day. I Always take it one hour before or one hour after any meal.

I take all my vitamins, supplements, any thing like that right before bedtime.

Vitamin C is not a friend of Adderall.

When I realized that the more involved I got in my Adderall experience that my experience improved.

A friendly suggestion....if you are that person (I was for a few months) that takes the med the same time every day, pays no attention to what type of food, drink, drug or any other substance, lives s Sedentary lifestyle and then expects a life changing experience, it didn't happen for me either.
When I began to take some ownership of my Experience and paid more attention to my lifestyle and upgraded my diet and exercise...that's when I saw what this medication really can do and how it can take a worthless loser like I was and develop me into a confident, assertive, professional. That's how I do it.

Or any damn thing having to do with binders, inactive ingredients, why the FDA won't do anything about it

Brittany, Thanks for sharing that -- sorry you are having trouble with it too, but misery loves company. I'm not sure what to do now either. I need to get in to see my doctor and get some guidance. I didn't even take a dose today b/c it had made me feel so awful. I will report back.

I read that Shire hopes to be introducing this year a new medicine -- like a 16 hour version of Adderall called Shp 465. They are about to lose their patent on Adderall and their Vyvanse can go generic in several years, so this would shore things up. New conspiracy theory: maybe they are allowing the authorized generics to be inadequate so we will all flock to the new drug!

i received the prasco lab 30mg xr, worst ever! bad anxiety, moody, cloudy head, agitated, and depressed. I had better luck with the activas generic brand that comes in an all orange capsule. I talked to my insurance and they said that i should only be getting the brand name one, so i dont know whats up. But that prasco lab one i will never take again, id rather get kicked in the nuts.

Its the same thing here, except CVS uses mylan, which is worse than teva. I recently been talking to my dr. about this and he wrote me a script for brand name adderall, I figured if I have to pay to feel normal than be it. It was one of the worst decisions I made regarding adderall. The teva brand actually does something since I can work long hours (contractor) and not feel like a zombie when I come home, but the brand name (which is also mfg by teva btw) didnt do anything, all day at work I was a walking disaster, like an imbecile, didnt get any work done.

The pink generic by corepharma is by far the best. They truly helped my add, The problem is that they are no longer manufacturing the generic adderall as of may 1, 2017. Never get the generic by aurolife or aurobindo they are terrible.

I totally agree, I just had my Dr write for name brand, got the teva orange 30mg and they are worse than the generic brand. Absolutely no help for my ADHD.

Nick:

What is even more interesting (and, in my opinion, both unacceptable and unethical) is the "testing process" which a generic company completes in order to complete the application (an ANDA) to the FDA, for ultimate approval.

1) The generic company --alone-- performs all the tests to ensure it is commensurate with the Brand. This information is confidential, the results are not available to the public. One only can speculate what the interval and external validity of these tests are...

Bioequivalence, as determined by the ---generic companies "tests" (the exact range or number) is not made public, only provided to the FDA, and can vary + - 20%
from the Brand Name drug.

The position they will tell you is that this range is not "clinically significant"

Another worry:

Once these companies, like Teva, begin producing their drug, most of the time in factories located in third world countries, we must hope they actually produce what they state to the FDA they will. The FDA does not have the resources to check on all plants around the world.

If you visit the FDA site, in the search area, type "warning letters" These letters are where the FDA has indeed inspected a plant, and found standards to be profoundly sub-par.

Teva has received Warning Letters.

It simply makes one worry...and rightly so.....

When Barr left Teva the formula changed dramatically. I Saved all my Duane Reed prescription slips and it says Barr/ Teva up until last year in July. Since then Teva only.
Noticed straight away as I'm very sensitive to changes in meds. The "new" ones gives me side effects like I never had before. Hard time sleeping, dry mouth, sweating and eye twitching at the time.
The older Barr version were great! Wish I could find them somewhere

Re: Nick (# 395) Expand Referenced Message

Hi,
I tried Vyvanse and did not like it as it lacked the motivation aspect of Adderall. In addition, it lasted maybe 5 or 6 hours and I found myself hyper focusing, quick tempered and did not like the fact you could not "regulate" the dosage. With that said, we are all different so use my account only as an opinion as others like the alternative and it is very clean.

Here are the differences, per document I pulled up several months ago:

Any answer to the question 'what's the difference between Adderall and Vyvanse?' must include a discussion about dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine.

That's because Adderall contains both d-amp (dextroamphetamine) and l-amp(levoamphetamine). Vyvanse is just metabolized to d-amp - it lacks the l-amp component.

The d or l before the amphetamine signifies the handedness of the molecule. It turns out that (chiral) molecules come in pairs - there are left and right mirror images - just like you have left and right hands.

Because they're just mirror images, you'd think that d-amphetamine would have the same biological effects as l-amphetamine. But this is not the case.

What’s the difference between dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine? Chemically, these two molecules are mirror images (stereoisomers) of each other and have similar but not identical effects in the brain. Some differences include:
dextroamphetamine is three to fivefold more potent than levoamphetamine
dextroamphetamine has greater effects on dopamine than noradrenaline, whereas levoamphetamine affects norepinpehrine slightly more strongly than dopamine
•Both isomers effectively treat ADHD
•Levoamphetamine more specifically improves sustained attention than dextroamphetamine1, which may benefit some subtypes of ADHD
•The 3:1 mixture of dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine in Adderall was found to have a synergistic effect by enhancing and prolonging the efflux of dopamine produced primarily by dextroamphetamine

Yes, that sweet taste should not be in a med? They did that purposely so the kiddos with AHAD would take the med! Sneaky...

I have tried Mylan (crap), Teva (a few batches good 6 months ago but total sugar pill-(literally!), Core (Great 1 year ago but each subsequent month quality slipped and boom....they discontinued it), Aurobindo (The 1st few doses we're surprisingly decent but within 6 to 7 days they absolutely stopped working), tired Sandoz XR in June (made by Shire as an Authorized Generic for Sandoz/Prasco...clean, same potency as old Teva, but lost its kick very quickly)...

So, picked up a script from Doc this week and requested again the Sandoz XR 30 mg (as I just completed the Aurobindo cycle and blew through the script in 20 days because they were so damn weak!) that are "supposedly" identical to Adderall XR Brand by Shire. I knew these had fewer side effects as they have less fillers and use beads -and I did have some success with them back in June. So as I go and get the script filled the pharmacist tells me the Express Scripts would charge me a $282 co-pay for the Sandoz XR but if I took the Adderall XR Brand the co-pay would be $20 bucks! Well, needless to say, I requested the Adderall Brand and out I go with (60) 30mg Adderall XR Brand by Shire for $20 (I later noticed Express Scripts paid $462 of the Adderall XR!).

As I left the pharmacy, I decided to do some investigative work with the FDA. I then spent the next 2 hours researching the original Adderall XR NDC # to see if it matched these Authorized Generics that Shire teamed up with: Sandoz and Prasco. As it turns out, the original NDC # is in the Prasco and Sandoz Adderall XR form. In addition, every single filler was exactly the same. Hence, Adderall XR, Prasco XR and Sandoz XR are all "identical."....I think...what I noticed was the Adderall XR by Shire was made in a different location than the Prasco and Sandoz. If they were all made in same location I would have no doubt they are identical but these separate locations potentially could be the difference -that many have said here- saying the Prasco doesn't work but the Sandoz does - and same with the Shire Brand.

In any event, these Adderall XR worked GREAT for about 4 days and then they just petered out...I still am getting great anxiety control though. In all the generics, I never had this positive response. I have a script for Xanax and I am reducing these...I simply do not need them. Also, little side effects with the Adderall XR. other than loss of appetite (nothing like the TOTAL loss of ANY appetite with Teva), some dry mouth.

I think the bottom line to ALL ADD meds (Generic/Brand) is you MUST take breaks. Generally all the positive reviews of certain generics start out great but by day, say 25...not so much... Use what works for you but be vigilant in taking breaks and "vacations" from these meds as they ALL end up being the same in the end..nothings perfect!...Good Luck!

I take teva brand 10mg Amphetamine Salts (blue IR pills) with a good result, and have been for many years, (for narcolepsy). My old doctor used to give me 10s 4x/day. Sometimes I would take 2 at a time when driving longer distances,
or needing to avoid extra sleepiness depending on the activity I was needing to be awake for, but still never more than my prescribed 40 mg in a day. Always had good results with the blue ones. My new doctor switched it to 2 20mg pills a day, and said to split them in half. Also Teva brand, but now orange IR pills. Still 40mg a day. And they are garbage. Completely different in some way that I cannot understand. Literally feel like I'm taking a sugar pill.

I've been trying to research why, and I tried all these tricks people have given about taking my meds with Tums (to help increase absorption), and NOTHING. Exhausted and irritable. No energy, and only the crappy side effects remained (yet seeming intensified even more so). HELP? Why? When I looked this up it says the ingredients are the same, just in double the amount. Could this be right?

What common drug manufacturer is deemed to be high-quality in producing Adderall? Because from what I've read, it seems almost everybody hates every company.

I am experiencing the same problem with the TEVA D-Amphetamine Salt Combo 30 Mg. Tabs. I got this bottle on Jan. 27, 2017. They simply are inefficacious. I’ll contact my physician tomorrow, but I’m not holding my breath.

Re: Hamster (# 500) Expand Referenced Message

The generic (Teva) 20mg IR tablets I've been taking for years suddenly stopped working (cold turkey) on last month's refill. I did some research and learned that Teva is on the brink of filing for bankruptcy due to competitive generic medication pricing. Typically the only way to stay competitive is to -A- make a better product (which rarely happens) or -B- cut corners on current products (which is the norm). There may be a direct correlation between Teva's sudden financial problems and my Adderall suddenly not working, which is why I put it to the test.

I'm a Software Engineer for a financial institution, so needless to say I absolutely need my Adderall to work. Out of desperation, and unable to risk another month of placebos, I asked my Doctor to make the prescription out for Brand Name Adderall. My concern was with Teva, and my goal was to get away from them, but I ended up getting the shaft instead. When I picked up this month's prescription from Walgreens they gave me Brand name Adderall.... from Teva! $420 out of pocket, PLUS... it had absolutely zero effect, just as the prior month's generic prescription. Tolerance is one thing, but no medication goes from 100% to 0% in one day.

jp (# 581) --

Glad to hear that it is better for you! Good going.

I would like to post Teva's telephone number.

TEVA Customer service: 1-800-545-8800. I spoke to a man named Dan. He took my information, concerns and complaints, along with my doctors contact information. He did not say much. At least I made it known that their product was not working and was causing nasty side effects. Then, I filed my second FDA complaint against Teva's adderall, for the second bottle of adderall that I tried, which was to replace the first defective one.

I'm prescribed 30mg ir tabs twice daily. Last month when I got my script the manufacturer was Aurobindo and it was complete garbage. It gave me a bad headache and made me feel like trash. I just picked up my refill today and it was the manufacturer barr/teva. They are complete trash too. I feel like I just popped a sugar pill in my mouth. This is ridiculous getting bogus scripts each month. These companies are getting away with dispensing fake medicine and ripping people off. It's no different than a drug dealer on the streets selling bulls*** drugs to people. What is the point of taking these scripts if they're not what they are supposed to be? It's pointless. I'm gonna contact my doctor to see if I can get switched to just straight d-amphetamine. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the generic manufacturers of that.
