Adderall Xr 20mg. Blue Capsule (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Updated

Pharmacy recently switched me to new generic brand (blue capsule) of adderall XR. I have never seen this brand and I don't feel like it is effective. I lack concentration and focus, recurring symptoms of ADHD. Anyone else experience this?

Hi! Wish I had found this months ago, would have saved me months of feeling sick. I have been on the brand name Adderall XR 25mg for almost 2 yrs. Last June my insurance changed from brand name to generic. I filled it at local Rite Aid (Teva) and was nauseous for over an hour every time taking this medication. As well as less focused, fatigue, and headaches. The next month I filled it at local CVS (Actavis) and it was even worse with stomach issues an hour after taking this medication. As well as less focused, fatigue, and headaches. I thought at first I had to get used to the generic and didn't think anything of it. I went to the Rite Aid and CVS out of convenience, no other reason. I went back to have prescription filled at Rite Aid and again was feeling sick every day after taking it, but not as bad as meds from CVS. I started to research generic vs brand name. I thought I was going crazy. So next month I went back to CVS and felt worse. Finally spoke with my doctor who informed me that many of his patients were having trouble with the generi Actavis. That CVS had switched to this manufacturer because it was cheaper. He also explained there have been issues with the timing release of medication in the XR. And that the rest of the 'fillers' in the medication is not FDA regulated. I found the Actavis to be horrible. Much worse than the Teva. I am finally back on the brand name. Still having some stomach issues, but its only been 4 days. Have to pay $30, but better having the medication work. Really hoping it gets better!! Thank you for this post, I thought it was just me!

Yes. I had a terrible experience with the generic version from Actavis. It was a blue capsule. It was so bad, I went into severe depression and missed weeks of work. I thought I was going crazy. I told my psychiatrist and he gave me a rx for the brand name only. I threw away those terrible Actavis capsules. I will never take those again.

I just got switched to time release by my Doctor. Last month I got the orange time release, I didn't like it compared to the regular 20mg. When I realized that my prescriptions for this year were dated for 2013, I had to go back to the doctor to get them changed to 2014. I took that opportunity to ask if I could switch back. He said no, I want you to stay on the time release. I finally got my script for January, and I get these blue things. Now I'm really pissed, they are horrible. Going back to see Dr., if he doesn't help me, I'm switching doctors. I don't understand why he won't help me make it right. If you get the blue 20mg capsule, I would immediately refuse them

After three weeks on the Actavis (blue capsule) I called my pharmacist to complain. This is evidently a cheaper generic and all this store is carrying now. I had to call around to different less convenient pharmacies to find one that still carries one of the other generics-Teva, Global, etc. as Actavis did not help me at all. A frustrating month and waste of money.

I absolutely hate this Actavis generic! I was on Global for the first month every on Adderall XR. I have been on other medications without success, like Straterra. The first month I though finally after years of anti-depressants, non-stimulant medications for both depression and ADHD, that I found the cure! I was so much happier and wasn't spending time on these message boards, no offense, but true, your meds probably aren't working if your creeping around on these obsessively like I have been for the past 2 weeks. I tried to stick it out, but called my Doctor and will be picking up a replacement script tomorrow for brand only. Actavis Brand has caused terrible reactions, lethargy, crying, stomach issues, and it causes my taste buds to be off. I feel like I smell like a crayon-I know weird, but true. After looking up the ingredients of fillers it has twice as many as the others and is definately not considered the Authorized generic on the FDA site like Shire is. Global claims to be an authorized generic, and I believe it, I would have been fine to remain on that generic. Its pretty bad that within 2 months filling at CVS its perfectly ok for them to change manufacturers, charge my insurance for Brand name-both months, which cost me $70.00. They should have automatically replaced it since the overcharged me as if it were brand. But, since its a scheduled drug I understand they need a script. I am so relieved I can start to get that crap out of my system. I didn't even take the dose prescribed which the first month was 20 mg a day, second month 20 mg twice a day, because it reacted so strange with me. I now see others are having the same issues. It causes cigarettes, and even a glass of wine to taste horrible. I bet this will be the next one they find with something wrong with it. Sad that they can monkey around with our lives this way. Sucks! But I feel blessed and lucky that my doctors came through. I realize it is because of years of a trusting relationship and respect for them that I am always compliant and have tried everything under the sun to feel better before trying stimulants. This works, when you actually get the medication you are supposed to get. I do feel sorry for those that start on Actavis and actually am glad I knew right away it was the difference in the manufacturer causing my symptoms. Nice to know that even though they didn't ask, I have more than the amount left in my bottle should someone want to analyze them one day!

Started the blue pills, Adderall XR 20mg Actavis Elezibeth 4 days ago. From that day every day has gotten progressively worse for me. Now I'm greatly suffering from depression and extremely sensitive to bright lights. I can't even stand looking at my phone while on this poison. Emailed my doctor begging if I bring him the bottle to please hook me up with the brand Adderall IR until my insurance will pay for the Adderall XR brand. STAY FAR FAR FAR AWAY FROM THE BLUE PILLS MADE BY ACTAVIS ELIZABETH. Please do yourself a huge favor and listen to us who are going through complete hell.

Yes!! My pharmacist switched me to generic r days ago & way less effective. Today i was getting my nails done at my nail ladies house. Suddenly i felt sick, diper hot temp, sweaty, dizzy, roaming eyes, heart racing, muscle rigidity, i felt like i was going to go unconscious & have a seizure. My nail tech had to put me in an ice bath in her house & call an ambulance. I am a nurse so when the symptoms started i took a gravol to slow my heart & body down. By the time the ambulance arrived i was just starting to feel better except i couldnt stand up without feeling faint & tremors. My vitals were a bit elevated BP & pulse. I ended up not going to the hospital because the symptoms were fading from the gravol getting into my system. It was one of the scariest experiences of my life.

I am a 36 year old woman. I was diagnosed with ADHD in 2009, (although looking back I don't know how anyone missed the signs) I have taken Adderall since 2009 same dose with no problems. Until somewhere in 2014, I started getting the blue pill. Didn't think much of it except for the money I was saving. But at some point, I noticed I was losing my focus and becoming more impulsive. A couple of times I took two doses in a day because I thought I had forgotten it. Eventually I was taking more and more and achieving less and less. In hindsight, I should have talked with my Dr. about it, but I was afraid he would stop my prescription. At this point I was physically addicted. By 2016, I was going through my 60 EA 20mg pills and 30 EA 25 mg pills in a matter of a couple of weeks. There were days I easily took 150- 200 mg a day. I was still able to fall asleep fine, and I managed to gain 40 lbs in 2 years. The summer of 2016, I started researching, and realized most of this began when I started taking the Actavis brand. I talked to my Dr, and we began trying other meds. I have been on focalin, Vyvanse, and a nonstimulant. My body has recovered from the physical withdrawal of the Actavis Junk. I have had 2 months back on Adderall. The first being a different generic, right away that fog was gone and I could think clearly. The second month, I started with Actavis, just as an experiment. Back to the fog, and forgetfulness (what other people view as carelessness). After a week I took the rest back and told the pharmacy my experience. They switched the rest out. There is a whole lot more to my story, I just wonder if I'm alone? Out of concern I started going to rehab because of the addiction side of this and the problems it caused. Has anyone else had anything like this?

I have been taking 10 mg xr adderall for years with success. I recently got a different color capsule and not thinking much of it was wondering why I was so scattered and could not focus on one task at a time. I looked up the capsule and it was actavis. The capsule that I was taking for many years was made by Teva. Wow...what a difference. I am not crazy and anyone who tells someone that all generics are the same, has no clue. I used to work for GlaxoSmithKline and Sandoz pharmaceuticals as a chemist and although I don't understand how generics can be so different, they are. I can't believe that the strength of the medication can be so far off when these companies should be doing analytical testing on the concentration of the active ingredient and monitoring it's stability over some years to determine the expiration date. I would imagine that some generics could be off somewhat on their active ingredient, but if a person takes 2 capsules and still feels nothing, then there is something else going on. Do the inert ingredients in the capsule affect the effectiveness? Maybe the extended release formulas release differently among the generics or maybe they don't release at all. I don't know, but I will tell you that today I picked up a generic made by Sandoz and it is night and day for me. I also found out that Walgreens has Teva generic back so I will be filling my prescription as early as possible and building up extra for times when I can't get a decent generic. I remember from my days at GlaxoSmithKline that products challenged during stability testing in the freezer maintained their active ingredient concentrations the best. Granted, I will have to do some research and make sure that amphetamine salts don't degrade or modify under these conditions, but I have stored medications in the fridge and freezer in the past to preserve or surpass expiration dates.

I have been taking 30mg Adderall ER for six years, I functioned well, no speed or slow down, in fact they worked so well I no longer noticed them. then a new doc. wants to change everything I told him it took me almost ten years to develop a treatment regime that worked for me. I am sixty seven, not trying to make myself feel high, just relieve my hdd and narcolepsy, my bi polar has stopped cycling and stays on the depressed side. I started a generic two days ago, made by actavis pharma, its 30mg aamphetamine salts ER, saying its a substitute for Adderall.

I took the pill the same way every morning at 9PM, I waited and waited nothing happened, I took another pill at 1200pm after an hour nothing happened. This morning I took a pill at 9am nothing happened I took two 30 mg pills at 1130 am again nothing happened. F*** this I am brining the remainder of the pills back to cvs and ask for a different brand, from my experience actavis is either incompetent
greedy or both.

Yes! CVS switched me over and it waS terrible. I felt lethargic and kind of trippy. Did not help my add at all. They tried to give it to me again this month and I refused it at the counter (told them last 2 months to stop giving me that junk and they almost got me again but I checked before I signed) anyway. It sucks. Has some numbers and weird symbol on it right? It's not all in your head trust me. There is something wrong with that generic. I switched to walgreens. Sooo much better now:)

Disregard the previous post, listen to your instincts, body, and mind on whether the meds work for you, don't just automatically trust the fda or big pharma, if you think your meds aren't working, esp if you know you've taken something else that DID work in the past. The tuskeegee experiments should not be forgotten, but remembered to never let gov't agencies oversee what they did, again. No the comparison is not the same but we are talking a medical injustice-some patients can't afford what does work, because of economic/low income conditions, or agencies deciding for them what's best. Just listen to all the posts that patients with a serious disorder are complaining about, with actavis, those people know the difference, they know something's wrong, they know they are not getting proper treatment! they have to take what they can afford, if a patient says, there's something not right here, it's not working, or it's making me sick, then they shouldn't have to suffer with a disorder that has the potential to ruin their lives, even cause suicide-because an agency says so. Children have no control over this either if their parents can't afford, they may never know there's something better that can really help, instead they will take what makes them sick. Just because big pharma is doing the bare minimum, with generics, doesn't mean it's going to work 100% of the time ...the patient knows, all you have to do is listen.

I've had the blue 20 mgs xr (er) twice. They're just like any other generic I've had (orange ones, brownish) The downfall is they seem to decrease in effectiveness when on them for over 30 days, so I switch pharmacies every month. It also gives me headaches sometimes. Everybody is different though. The name brand seemed to work the best for me. The generics have basically all been the same for me.

I have the same problem.

I got a 30 day refill at Costco which I noticed worked much better than what I had before. I need to use Express Scripts to get the best price and when I recently refilled with them, I received different pills. These were made by Activas and do not work at all. I take this for narcolepsy and fall asleep an hour after taking it.

I took the blue Actavis Adderall XR 20 for 19 days. Made my ADHD worse. Also bloated my belly to where I looked to be 8 months pregnant. Took me four months to lose the bloat and inflammation. I've taken Addderall XR 20 by Teva and Barr for years with great results and NO adverse side effects. Unfortunately, I've had two pharmacy chains tell me they will only carry the Actavis brand from here on out, so they have lost me as a customer.
