Adderall Backorder (Page 7) (Top voted first)

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

Sounds like the pharmacist has no idea how medicine works. You don’t just switch medication after years of taking it. I hate the stigma that comes along with adderall.

I take the exact same dosage (30mg IR/ 60 pills - 30-day supply) and have had luck with CVS recently. I originally had my script at Walgreens and was not able to fill it for over 2 months. I switched my script to CVS and was able to fill it with no problem last month and this month. The manufacturer is Sandoz and they seem to be keeping it in stock for now. Hope this helps.

Also, I love how seeking and complaining about getting an FDA approved medication after months and months of constant backorder - let alone the fact that medication prices have remained uncapped for years - to go back to work and stability have become 'entitlement'. Good thing bullets are plentiful since the U.S. has it's priorities straight.

There's a huge difference in a shortage that cannot be helped and the DEA intentionally creating a shortage... I'm not sure why this would even need to be explained.

The latest news reporting once again fails to zero in on the FDA and DEA and the American Medical and Psychiatric Associations.... and once again blames covid, increased Demand, Telehealth Etc. Passing the buck much? Blaming the patients? Mismanagement is NOT the patients' issue.... Seems like the DEA and industry wholesalers have attention deficit disorder cuz it's their responsibility to manage supply and demand. Not the patients. Havoc

I just left from speaking with the pharmacist at an independent near my home.

According to him and his tech, generic xr is pretty much off the market. It was showing resupply dates of Jan/Feb and now on their end it just says TBD which according to them is pretty bad.

IR tablets are just now starting to show back up for 5 and 12.5 mg's. The pharmacist thinks they're starting with the lowest doses bc it requires the least ingredients.

WHEN a bottle of higher mg shows up as available to order, the tech compared it to ebay bidding. He said if someone at another pharmacy places the order for it quicker than another person who also sees it, it'll go to the person who gets the order in first. He also said he's had it happen where he'll go to place the order and by the time he hits submit it'll show zero and be gone. I know said pharmacy tried to order a single bottle of 30mg IR on Monday when I was also there in person, and today they said they hadn't received it yet.

The pharmacist said pretty much the only ones who have anything right now are pharmacies that stocked for their reserved regular patients/customers. He said it's been about 4 months since the backorder started for us here and they were able to last about a month and a half off of what they had ordered for their regulars.

When I checked on Monday (same pharmacy) Ritalin was also showing as unavailable in the strength equivalent to 30mg Adderall IR. I believe the employee said 20mg would be the equivalent dose of Ritalin but he claimed it was also unavailable to order when he checked his computer.

This is just what one pharmacy was willing to inform me about bc they aren't too busy and were willing to take the time and explain what they're experience has been. I also had paper prescriptions in hand from my doctor, which may or may not have influenced how much they were willing to discuss with me. I hope it helps give some insight as I know this is a very confusing situation for everyone.

I just called my CVS pharmacy to get my 30mg IR filled and they told me that they heard from corporate yesterday that they will not be getting in any Adderall at all until at least the end of April. They recommend I talk to my doctor and switch to Vyvanse which I've tried and doesn't work well for me. Has anyone else heard this? This is crazy. I'm in Los Angeles btw.

Since everyone is different and I don’t get prescribed adderall for narcolepsy I’m not overprescribed. I also did not start at my current dose it was gradually increased over a period of almost 15 years. Also your not my physician so who are you to tell me anything???? Please keep your so called medical advice to yourself

So on Thursday the 16th I called my local Walgreens that I filled at last month to see if they had any adderall and I was told that they didn’t have any 30mg but they had 20mg ir in stock and to have my doctor send in my prescription. Two hours later I called back to let them know that my doctor had sent my prescription in and I wanted to get my refil started, I was then told that they didn’t have any in stock and that I was misinformed. On Friday the 17th I then called cvs and was told that they were told that they would not have any in stock until April sometime, Publix was still on back order and then I called a different Walgreens and they said they had 20mg in stock. I then had to call my doctors office and have her cancel my prescription at the first Walgreens and send a new one to the one that had it. The stress of having to call around until one of them say that they have any at all in stock and then rush to call your doctor to get them to send it in is so frustrating and causes so much anxiety. I was able to get my 20mg irs but I still have not been able to find any 30mg irs (my original dose). So for the past three months I’ve had to take a dose that is a lot less than the dose I am supposed to be on but I’m grateful to get anything at all. I also found it frustrating that Walgreens told me one time that they can see in their system which stores say they have them in stock but that usually the system doesn’t update too often so they don’t like to say what it says to customers and on another call I was told that they can’t see any information about other stores. Like I get it they don’t want to say that a store somewhere else says they have it and then they don’t and the customer gets mad at them but that could help lead someone to a store that has it. If anyone is told from Walgreens or cvs that they don’t have any and no stores around have any as frustrating as it is please call around to as many stores as you can because clearly they are lying to callers. I wanted to just say “screw it” and just go without until they got it in stock because I felt so tired without my meds but I just wanted to keep calling around a few more times and I was lucky enough to find a Walgreens that had what I needed (for the new dose until the 30mg come back). Have faith and keep calling around! Hopefully this gets better soon.

@Mauricio I don't do electronic prescriptions specifically for that reason. I get a physical script that I can take from store to store. And with Adderall it is legal to get 3 written out prescriptions at a time to cover 3 months. So, don't have to deal with the doctor for 3 months. You can drop off the script early and they can try to order before hand. Or when you have a pharmacy that is consistently getting meds, you can give them all 3 and they will refill when they are due.

WTH??? This is terrible news! When will anyone see the role telehealth played in the amount of Adderall (and other controlled meds) we are having problems obtaining? It's like the DEA has a box of rocks for brains! I'm losing faith quickly... When will COVID stop being the excuse for EVERYTHING???

After talking to my nurse practioner, I finally convinced her that it was their responsibility to take care of what ever symptoms I had, with or without Adderall. She changed my med to Ritalin. We shall see how it works. I have fibro, so concentration is almost non-existant when in bad episode. I've heard that the drug companies that manufacture Adderall just wanted to make more money. We've all heard that before. I mean, its not like they ran out of the substances that they use to make the med. Doesn't make sense. Good luck all.

I live in Cincinnati and take 10mg tablets. I called at least 25 pharmacies in Cinci and all are out. I even called pharmacies in Dayton and Columbus - no one has it. Don't know what I'm gonna do.

All I know is that the Schedule II drugs get delivered to pharmacies once a month as opposed to everything else which gets delivered up up to 2-3 times a week.

I never heard from any on the pharms that they had a yearly quota, but, well, it is what it is --- and it is just going to get worse because the AMA or congress or someone just decdied that kids as young as 4 can be treated with medication. Prior to that ruling, it was only kids as young as 7-8, so know the pill pad happy docs got even more people to write scripts for so the supply is going to get even worse.

The only good thing is that it is nearing the end of the year and when the set the new quotos for next year they will be much higher because this really is becoming a nationwide issue and there are still 2.5 months before the year ends - so there are going to be a lot mlore complsimtd and because it's campaign season, the politicians and the bureaucrats they control have nochoice but to listen - and they will get tired of hearing it and will start punching people at the FDA and various other places saying, with each punch:

I. DONT. NEED. THIS. S***. RIGHT. NOW. SO. FIX. IT. DUMB***!

Maria... I am in NY as well (don't know if you're still reading this or not...) Manhattan to be precise. I got my new prescription because as you know in NYC you have to get one every month! yay us... I got the prescription on Wednesday this week (4/11) and when I left the Doc I needed to fill it as I only had 2 20mgs left. I sat for hours calling every Duane Reade, Walgreens, CVS (lets just say every pharmacy from downtown to uptown!) and everyone said they were out. Most of them didn't even bother to check just said they were out instantly and I know the crap is locked up in a vault! Finally I was just like forget it this is craziness... I tried Thursday to no avail once again... Finally today I call one Duane Reade and she says hold on comes back and says she has it... I'm throwing on clothes and shoes and going well out of my way just to get to this particular pharmacy. Yes thankfully I now have my meds since I am a graduate student it's pretty important that I be able to function!

I think my biggest irritation (as with a lot of the posts I've read) is the rude responses and total lack of regard I'm given. The people who answer the phone act like YOU are putting THEM out... How do they think it feels to actually need the medication to be successful and having to repeatedly call them! I ask questions such as "Do I have to call you everyday to find out if you have it?" "Do you know when you may be receiving a shipment so that I know when to try back?" and I swear they act as if I'm a retard... I don't want to call them everyday and ask and I certainly don't want to walk a bazillion blocks a day to try to hunt it down!

This is no better than when I suffered a serious shoulder injury went to the doctor and asked for an MRI and they treated me like a drug addict!!!

Okay my rant is over... I was so frustrated this week as I have 3 papers to write and a ton of research to do and trying to do that unmedicated would be such a gigantic nightmare. Sad thing is of course you can blame the abusers and the fakers who just want to get high or pull all nighters before their finals for this kind of crap. Screw the rest of us who actually need it eh?

My pharmacist told me that one of the only adderall manufacturing plants in America was shut down recently due to FDA regulations. This is causing a huge shortage everywhere for brand name adderall.

I live in Orlando, Florida, and I have been having issues getting my Adderall 20mg RX for 60 pills, filled anywhere. It was almost 3 weeks with everywhere telling me it had been on backorder! I tried Publix, and they had only 14 pills left in stock. They told me I could fill my RX for that, but I had to forgo the entire rest of my RX. This worked for me, because my doctor writes me a second prescription for the next month, and I can get that filled, (MAYBE?!).. in a few days. Since I had already waited almost a month, I went for this option. I have been breaking them in half to 10 Mgs in order to save them because I have a feeling it is going to be hard again when I attempt to fill my next RX. I am not sure what is going on, it is extremely frustrating having to drive around all day to different pharmacies, because most won't/can't tell you via phone if it is in stock or not due to some new DEA law. I did go to my doctor and he was willing to re-write my RX for a different dosage, but I do not think that would have helped, so I just left it the same, which worked for the 14 at least. I heard it may be a manufacturing issue, but for this long of a time?!!? I have been searching online for answers, and the drug companies, seem to be keeping extremely mum on this issue.

Well i just left another and found someone that was honest, as of 9/15/14 there is a 10 pt protocol, 10 of 10 must be met or they will not fill. Part of this protocol is the rx must be from a mental hlth specialist ONLY, your Dr & home must be within 5 mi of their store, they will no longer fill a cont subst UNLESS you have health ins ( NO out of pocket customers at all), you must have filled at their location ONLY for the past 6 consecutive mos., and more that i cant even recall at this time. I was also told that they were fined $10 mil by the DEA recently and told if they didnt decrease their #'s that they would face $20 mil fine + cert stores would lose their disp liscence from the DEA. Walgreens is now scared and leaving all of us hung out to dry. Now other retailers have had to absorb Walgreens cust & cant accomodate them because of their own quotas enforced by the DEA.

It is not just Adderall, it seems ALL drugs from this TEVA Pharmaceuticals are all on
back order! Mine is a very simple tylenol #4, on backorder since October 6, 2014! (It is VERY common, so why is it that NO ONE in Nevada at least, can get such to fill
prescriptions?). I think there is something very odd going on with this TEVA company.
(Perhaps Chinese fakes? Contamination?) CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES!!!
