Adderall Backorder (Page 59)

Updated

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

Delaware - Out of Stock - Long-Term Back Order!

Made a post here back on June 14th bc I had trouble getting my normal script filled at the Walgreens in my area. They ended up filling w/ Camber T376 - 30mg IR’s which have been absolutely worthless. Almost seems like this is some kinda sugar placebo drug. Doesnt seem to help at all, in fact most of the time I end up getting a headache when I do decide to take that crap. My next appt is July 7th, so 6 days away & I still have 47 of 60 pills prescribed per month. These things are worthless, Walgreens should be ashamed of themselves for putting their customers in this position. Since my appt is 6 days away, I decided to call around & check with a few other Walgreens locations. Well I ended up calling a total of 17 locations that spanned as far away as 65 miles from me, but still got the same response each time - they dont have any of the 30mg Teva in stock, in fact their on long-term back order. This is some absolute BS, but unfortunately I guess there’s nothing any of us can do now but wait…..

Do any other larger pharmacy chains carry this same 30mg Teva IR’s? Like RiteAid, CVS, Walmart, Costco, etc? Or does anyone have any recommendations of what to try next? Are there any on-line shipping services available with stock or possibly some smaller compounding pharmacies? Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: JR (# 1149) Expand Referenced Message

So, let's solve the mystery of the missing meds....

As a group we have all established that

1. FDA website removed generic Adderall from shortage list on 5/31/2022.

2. Teva generics shipped a boat load to AmerisourceBergen. No shortage.

3. Walgreens, especially, either won't fill or uses crap "dollar store" knock off generic.

ALWAYS FOLLOW THE $. I say it's probably the PBMs. This article busts them. I have had honest pharmacists say (apologize):

Pharmacist: "we pay more for Teva than your PBM will give us. We will lose $ on your script"

and

"We break even on your script so that could be why we aren't allowed to order your preferred brand"

Me: "but this brand literally doesn't work"

Them: "I really am sorry but corporate won't lose $ if PBMs won't cover the cost".

It doesn't seem like it is supply issue. The "truth" is leaking out that it's PBMs. What pharmacy would sell a medication for LESS than they pay for it? I GUARANTEE YOU, as an investor, that Walgreens and CVS headquarters, CEOs CFOs have 1 bottom line: Quarterly Earnings Reports, exceeding Wall street's estimates for revenue and earnings... getting good press on CNBC, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, seeing stock price uptick, and annual growth estimates increase.

No CEO of a publicly traded company Will agree to stock a very popular high volume product that they lose $ on.

Using their positions as middlemen between drug payers, producers, and dispensers, PBMs often require pharmacies to sign contracts giving them their lowest price, which discourages pharmacies.

We know that AmerisourceBergen has Teva. Find a pharmacy that uses ABC as a supplier. It's stocked, that's been established.

I have found Stop & Shop and Publix the most helpful.

Orders arrive in 24-72 hours.

Not sure why Walgreens is saying they are long term back order, specifically for the Teva 30mg IR (which I take as well), since I monitor the inventory ABC has and they have over 55k bottles (100 tablets per) on hand inventory in there Ohio DC as of 6/30. Roughly 75% of ABCs core business is sold through Walgreens, so I have to imagine when they say it’s on back order at Walgreens, it’s because ABC hasn’t redistributed it to the other local DC. Hope this helps, I’m in the same boat waiting on Walgreens to fill my prescription, and get frustrated when I hear from them it’s on back order since it’s part of my job to monitor daily sales.

Hey, I'm from Delaware too. My script was supposed to get filled today and I called so many pharmacies. I can only take Teva as other generics have made me irritated or have a massive headache.
Walgreens filled my script last month with no problem (6/3) Today, I found a pharmacy in MD that only had 15 tabs so my doctor wrote a script for 1 week to get the 15 tabs which were Teva and I am hoping they start to get their shipments in next week so I can get the rest!!
I would keep calling because I was told by a pharmacist that they come in randomly. Also she said it's first come, first serve so I would at least let your script sit there and in the mean time if you find another location, you can have your doctor send it there.
I know most rite aids in DE have the white ones (forget what brand) and a few MD pharmacies (smaller mom and pops) have the blue Epic ones but I can't take them. Not sure about CVS.
The only one I have found that have Teva is Walgreens!!
I can let you know if I find any. Plus most Walgreens in DE close at 6pm and are closed all weekend plus Monday due to the holiday. Ridiculous!

Re: JR (# 1149) Expand Referenced Message

I’m in Texas & have called several CVS, Walgreen’s, Walmart, Kroger pharmacies and they all say the same thing. Teva is on “back order” and they don’t know when they will be getting anything in. Sitting at CVS right now as we speak to pick up my prescription and was just now told that they have somehow LOST my prescription and it’s deleted from their system…..I’m infuriated right now.

What is going on?! Something seems rigged in general per say.

I had no issues until this month - I had to wait 2 days for my Walgreens to get 90 generic teva 30mg in - my husband had to wait on a Friday when his doctor sent over the e-script they had to order his 20mg and they came in on the following Monday. His always were the Teva brand in the past and this time they were Rhodes - I’ve read quite a bit that quite a few people have complained about this Rhodes brand - but my husband feels it works better for him than Teva did. Best of luck out there. My best advice is befriend a pharmacist and always fill at the same location. Because of this - the pharmacist manager knows we fill there every month and when stocks of meds are short what they do get in and they know your fill dates they will typically turn away people just randomly popping in with new scripts knowing we fill monthly. Hopefully this mess clears up quickly - I know firsthand what it’s like to try to just mentally function with severe adhd let alone perform at my normal level at work.

Super interesting. I’m in Ohio and if you read my post just a minute ago this is the first month I’ve had to wait or even knew they were having “shortage” issues - but I picked up my script from Walgreens 30 mg 90 pills Teva - but they did have to order them so they are coming from somewhere.

Re: Stacy (# 1169) Expand Referenced Message

I’ve taken 20 mg for years and never had this problem. I mean in the past my pharmacy has been out of stock but I could call another and easily find more. This time I called literally 25 different Walgreens / Rite Aids / CVS locations, some close some like 20 miles away and nobody has it in stock. I was told maybe Tuesday? I guess because they don’t get shipments in over the weekend and Monday is a holiday? It’s so annoying and the more info we get the more annoying it is. Why is this happening!

Re: Grace (# 1154) Expand Referenced Message

I went to Rite Aid even though I had to settle for the Mallinckrodt brand which is not as effective as Teva.

Walgreens suggested going to a non-chain small pharmacy. That makes me think something fishy is going on. Best of luck to you. Crazy times we are living in. I am sure this is just the beginning of out of stock issues for all goods.

Weird, because the maximum daily amount of Adderall is 60 mg. How did you get a prescription for that? Doesn't make sense to me.

I am in Philadelphia and am having the same issues with Walgreens. This is the first time ever. Usually my script (30mgs) is ready within hours of my doctor sending. My script was sent to Walgreens on 6/24. I was notified if the back order right away, told my script would be filled 6/27…then 6/29…and still nothing. I’ve called around to other Walgreens and multiple other CVS and even Sam’s Club with no luck.

Re: Ashley (# 1166) Expand Referenced Message

High demand, low supply, cost of production has gone up and DEA regulations are extremely strict on controlled substance manufacturing and distribution, of course. So it's not as simple as just ramping up production, unfortunately. It's kind of a shame, since amphetamine is a very simple and cheap drug to manufacture, but that's why less manufacturers are in the game - with inflation, the costs of ingredients/chemical precursors, and production has gone up and because of DEA volume restrictions, I'm sure for some they are no longer profiting as much, or not solvent at all. ADHD is very real and these meds can be life changing, but everyone must not forget, it is, ultimately, a huge business. And if the players can't profit, they leave the table.

I’m in NYC and I’ve been waiting for my script to be filled since 6/30. I stopped by today to see if they had any idea of when it would be back and they were so rude as if I’m asking for a favor and not my prescription that is now 3 days late.

Ugh!

Re: James K (# 1174) Expand Referenced Message

Is there any known info regarding a date range in which it will be returned to pharmacies? Well aware most are just as in the dark as i, a hopeful inquiry. I rationalized it must be filled in under a two week time range in order to fit any logical political restrictions in place however you seem more informed than I do here

Re: Jiesel16 (# 1161) Expand Referenced Message

Not only does Camber not work at all for me, the two times I was given them by Walgreens my blood pressure was dangerously low on many days. After 20 years my body has adjusted to the stimulant affect of Adderall. I have been taking a low dose Lisinopril 20mg. The Mallikrodt is not much better.

After waiting all weekend for order to come, I went to store and was told no truck did not come. I found another store but my doctor's office closed early so waited another day and had my doctor transfer a new script there. I check Walgreens app about 30minutes later and it said it had been received BUT also that it was ready

The first store (my regular store) had filled it the day before and not bothered to call me.

The pharmacist knew I was out, had ample time to call me so I could pick it up. When I picked it up, I asked him why he did not call me. He said it was filled late at night. I said you close at 7pm, how could it be filled late at night? He looked it up and it was filled at 6:59 pm. He knows I live (or at least I have told him) 1 mile away and would have had time to pick it up. I asked if he had any idea the amount of stress that caused me and I understand his job is stressful too. He said not stressful, just too busy. Didn't bother to tell me it was Camber not Mallikrodt which, though not ideal, at least helps to a degree.

I have appt with my psychiatrist on Tuesday I do know an independent who uses ABC and will see if they will order Teva. Although they did not in the past which is why I switched to Walgreens in the first place.

I had taken the brand name Adderall for 18 years and even the efficacy of that changed over the years. But at $500 a month is not be cost effective for me. But might be an option for a month, if I can get prior approval which I always could before.

The last time I was given Teva at Walgreens was early this year. March I think. However they seemed to be old and crumbled easily.
I was getting Lannett at Walgreens in 2020 and 2021. They were adequate. I really don't know if my local independent will order Teva, even though ABC is their supplier. They would not in the past. I can hope. Thanks for the information

Re: Tx (# 1167) Expand Referenced Message

Some Walgreens here in FL will not tell you what they have in stock even if you are standing in front of them with your Walgreens bottle from another store for only 7 pills. I had to insist on having tech ask the pharmacist. After 15 minutes I went to the consult window and asked her myself. She gave bottle back to tech and said yes, she could fill when she got the script.

Re: Terry (# 1170) Expand Referenced Message

Florida is a different story. Pill mills here. Very strict pharmacy rules. Walgreens is afraid of DEA fines. About 5-6 years ago,3 of our local Walgreens pharmacies went on voluntary CII restrictions to avoid DEA sanctions. Granted it was an opioid issue but affected all CII meds. They were over-filling, whatever that means. Filling legally written prescriptions. So with online prescribing gearing up during pandemic, perhaps Walgreens has initiated self-imposed restrictions again. Or it could be PBMs.
