Adderall Backorder (Page 53) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?
Re: Kayla (# 1771)
I feel for you to have suffered like this, and it is a crying shame that this society and doctors in general are so unempathetic.
No one lives in another person's body, and they should not have the right to judge if someone is "really" suffering/in pain/despair, etc.
Managed health care, big corporate takeovers of hospitals/practices, Big Pharma's shenanigans, AI/algorithm-driven merging of medicine with Big Tech, the drug war/alphabet agencies overriding patients' bodily autonomy and quality of life, and many other factors have created a Dante's inferno scenario for anyone who ever needs to seek any type of health care.
I listened to my elderly relatives (before they passed) talk about their caring doctor who did house calls and cared about their patient's welfare. What a far cry from today!
Can you name another industry where the professionals not only still get paid if they not only treat their customers with disrespect while not fixing the problem they are supposed to fix, but also get paid more when the customer comes back with the same problem, or worse? Or unilaterally tells the customer that their individual experiences re: the issue are irrelevant because the algorithm knows best, or that the customer is lying about their problem? Or that the solution to the problem is now "unavailable" just because, and it's not his responsibility, tough luck!
Has anyone tried Dextroamphetamine Sulfate ER as a temporary alternative to Adderall?
It's manufactured by Actavis for TEVA as Dexedrine Spansule generic.
I recently discovered from my CVS pharmacist contact who keeps me apprised of all supply status issues with their supplier (Cardinal) -- she said that the demand for Dextroamphetamine ER is coincidentally low so she filled it immediately despite Adderall being non existent... Just a heads up.
I'm not an ER or XR person, I prefer IR. I'm gonna give it a try and see...

Dexedrine Spansules is the Brand. Express Scripts covered me.

McKesson is one of the biggest distributor wholesalers in the USA. They have their own "independent" pharmacies so if McKesson has Adderall their own pharmacies should be able to get it on the shelf:

Excellent article in The Guardian discusses the entire picture, the efficacy of meds for ADHD and problem of recreational use. DEA's lack of action and role in creating a national catastrophe for ppl who legitimately need medication to function. Even DEA blowing off Confessional inquiry.
The worst it’s ever been: mysterious US Adderall shortage puts ADHD patients at risk
In recent months, patients have reported problems filling nearly every type of ADHD medication prescription – and no one seems to know why

"Meanwhile, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which controls the supply of the drugs, announced last month that it would not increase manufacturing quotas for 2023, despite the shortage – again, without providing a reason. One congresswoman, Abigail Spanberger, wrote to the DEA and FDA to demand an explanation last December, but Spanberger’s staff told the Guardian she had yet to receive a response...
...Studies show stimulants offer dramatic benefits to ADHD patients, improving their performance at school and at work, and reducing their risk of depression, anxiety, substance abuse and suicide. A 2017 analysis of millions of patient records even found that adults with ADHD taking stimulant medications were far less likely to get into a car crash."

Re: Mike (# 1843)
Interesting... but that wouldn't necessarily explain the shortage because only the DEA gives each manufacturer it's annual allotment of amphetamine. DEA gives exact limits and caps. It could triple it and manufacturers would gladly sell pills to the US military. Theoretically they could get manufacturers to double their production because the manufacturers follow the money and the US government is the best customer there is. And that would be a pretty impossible thing to not have leaked to the press by either a bureaucrat in government or an executive at a manufacturing plant. Most of these manufacturers are publicly traded in the New York stock exchange and have to issue quarterly financial reports that would show a riser drop in revenues etc. It would be a really difficult secret and the government would probably hire One manufacturer and have its own security clearance employees working there, signed NDAs. Very interesting and certainly plausible theory though.
Re: Mike (# 1843)
If the US government really wants to invest in a performance drug for its soldiers I think they could do a little better than amphetamine, lol
Re: Tim (# 1849)
AZ brand name Adderall is all they had in stock for me and it was $989 I passed
Re: Tim (# 1849)
I live in South Carolina. I am supposed to get 60 30mg ir and 30 20mg ir a month but I have been on 90 20mg ir for a few months now due to the shortage. Without the goodrx coupon my 90 20mg ir generics would cost me 146 dollars. I only pay about 45 with the coupon. I wouldn’t have to pay anything if I could fill at my Publix because I work there and my insurance only covers refills or medication that I fill at a Publix and if I go anywhere else I pay completely out of pocket. When I looked up the price of brand name adderall 90 20mg ir it is anywhere from 862 dollars to 926. The generics are way cheaper. Now if I was on my actual dose I think I would be paying even more for brand name. It is insane. I even thought about it and I told myself “if I have to pay for the name brand I guess I’ll have to do that.” But now I am glad I didn’t because I would have been so upset knowing I spent that much when it usually is free when I can fill at my work pharmacy.
Re: Mike (# 1862)
you sound like someone going through psychosis - hope if ur on this thread you use the medication for its intended purpose
there is literally no merit to any of ur wild theories, stop trying to add more chaos to an already stressful situation
Oh dear, my friends...
Went to try to fill my normal 30mg XR / 30 mg IR combination I've been fortunate to find the last several months in my area, and found that the IR has completely dried up in my area. No pharmacy for miles I drove to had IR of any dose in stock. Moreover, the only XR I found in stock was all brand. Being that I require my medication to function at work, I had my doctor write me 60 30mg XR this month, but it ran me over $400 out of pocket.
I have a pretty good job, but I definitely can't afford this type of hit every month, so I hope the increased attention on this shortage will improve things sooner than later... Good luck out there, my friends.
This let's the cat out of the bag. Pharmacies are subject to "secret" limits and only the wholesalers know the limits. Pharmacies are left in the dark.
"Xanax and Adderall's 'secret drug limits' due to opioid settlement with top 3 distributors
The limits stem from an opioid settlement with AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health and McKesson that flag and sometimes block controlled substances – and patients with anxiety and sleep disorder are caught in the crosshairs."

Re: Davemp88 (# 1886)
1. Pennsylvania
2. Of course. Had to pay for brand xr this month as it's all that was available anywhere in any dosage.
3. I don't know. In my experience, all brand ir seems to be shaped like orange footballs, but I never received 20mg tablets so I wouldn't know.
Well, you guys were right. I had no issues filling my 15mg generic Adderall XR in Jan Feb and March because it was already on hand. However my fill in April had to be ordered and after 10 days of waiting, my doctor made me switch to Vyvanse...
I was a little hesitant to try a new medication but I was pleasantly surprised.
First off, I was able to fill my Vyvanse same day. The effects are almost identical to Adderall (in my opinion.) I've heard mixed reviews about Vyvanse but it's working great for me so far. It lasts a long time but make sure to take it in the morning or you won't be able to sleep lol
So just a quick update from my monthly refill: Still rough here in the Philadelphia area. Still no generic XR anywhere, so I had to settle on the huge co-pay of brand. I actually *did* find IR this month, but not the 30mg tablets, just 10mg tablets so my doctor called in 90 of those instead of my normal 30 30mg tablets.
Good luck out there, everyone.
Re: Ken (# 1899)
Unfortunately there are no "strict" compliance measures other than the fear of a possible inspection by the FDA. Unless a person pays to have an accredited lab report, I personally don't know of any other recourse than to file a complaint with the understaffed FDA. If only there were an independent "advocacy/fraud watch" group that we could send meds to....I bet if manufacturers knew they were being watched by a "Consumer Reports" type of organization, there would be more consistency and compliance. Manufacturers can use 20% less active ingredients and still be in compliance. So your 30mg could be 24mg and be in compliance. Sounds like yours may be duds.... and unless they are investigated by the FDA, companies will get away with it. MANY generic companies are not up to par and get away with it. (Same with restaurants, food industry etc. Unless they're inspected or a whistleblower files a report, they operate without consequences).

Hello again, friends.
As this thread has been a ghost town for weeks, I had high hopes going into my refill today. And yeah, at least in the Philadelphia area, this month showed considerable improvement! For the first time in months I was able to find generic XR, and while it took me a few pharmacies to find 30mg IR, the lower doses seemed abundant at every pharmacy I checked.
Hope everyone else is finding similar luck in their areas.
Re: tim (# 1915)
I found my 30s for the past two months on the first call. Walmart had Lannett I believe it was. They were horrible. I know they have a high and low threshold the active ingredient has to be within for generics. They were definitely and purposely putting as little amph/dextro as allowed by regulations. Unfortunately, this last time they had any 30s. I was able to get my doctor to call in 90 20mg IRs. Fortunately, they were not Lannett this time, and they were Epic Pharma. I think these are a little better.
Anyone know anything about mail order pharmacies? I still see my doctor in north MS, but I moved to Indiana not long ago and bought a house. I travel back and forth a lot between MS and IN. She cannot call my stuff in a pharmacy here in Indiana being out of state of course. If they dont have them in, I'm leaving without them and have to wait until I go back. I usually get my sister to get my script and meet me halfway if it's going to be awhile.
I read mail order pharmacies can ship 60 or 90 days of ADHD medication to your home. Since I'm basically in two states, does anyone know if I can see the doctor in MS and have her call them in to ship to me at my residence in Indiana? I don't have time to try and find a doctor here in Indiana. I hate Indiana's state regulations. I thought the south was conservative, but they don't have anything on Indiana. Lol.

Re: Ken (# 1916)
Picked up script of 30mg Northstar Adderall earlier in month.
They we’re much better than Teva.,I was happily surprised as I’ve tried them all.
Clearly, the generics are - or below - the 20% leeway they have with brand but these were decent.
