Actifed Cold And Allergy Availability (Top voted first)
UpdatedI always found Actifed to be the only cold medicine that worked for me. Now I cant find it at any of my local drug stores even behind the counter. Is it still available? Even the pharmacist I talked to thought it was on the shelf and then realized they quit carrying it.
September 2011: The best (for me) medicine to control post nasal discharge and allergic reactions has disappeared. Some store still carry Actifed Plus (with added analgesic) but I don't need that. The pharmacists have no info...and there is no other product on the market that I can find that has the same active ingredient (other well-known brands often have generic clones).
I see it is a Johnson+Johnson controlled/owned brand and I will see what news I can find from that company...but I'm not optimistic: Actifed must be a tiny fraction of 1% of that company's business.
ACTIFED is the only allergy medicine that works out there, period!!!! wasted a lot of money trying all of the allergy medicines (brand name they call it) its all garbage. Who ever removed it in the market should put itself in our shoes!
The only major and national drugstore chain carrying the exact chemical formula as the old actifed
is Walgreen's.
The name of their generic product is WAL-ACT. It is only available behind the counter. price is $7.49 for 48 tablets.
Go to a local pharmacy and have them order Aprodine. It is original formula actifed. I pay $2.75 for 24 tablets.
Missy, Actifed has been discontinued for some time now.
Walgreens still carries their generic form of Actifed. It works pretty well. And the price is cheap too. I believe the box of 48 is approx $7.00. The name to ask for is Wal-Act. Because of the meth-heads, you have to get it during pharmacy hours, since it is behind the pharmacy counter. and depending on your state there may be limit restrictions.
Wal-Act has the same formula as the original Actifed.
I hope this is helpful. :-)
My Walgreens ran out only a couple weeks ago, so I should consider myself lucky, I guess. Unfortunately, I am so miserable that it makes me terrified of the prospect of this miracle med being unavailable. If someone wants to start an internet petition to get this stuff back on the shelves, I would certainly join.
Here's what I heard from the pharmacist. When Actifed changed their formula, Walgreens didn't like the new one and kept making a generic version of the old formula (pseudoephedrine HCl 60 mg and Triprolidine HCl 2.5 mg). Their brand name is Wal-Act. Initially, when supply became limited, I was told that there was a problem with the ordering system. Then, I heard it was an issue with the manufacturer. The package that I have says it was made by LNK International. Looking on their website, they make many allergy and decongestant products - but Wal-Act or the drug combo is not listed. So, I don't know if Walgreens chose to move their business to a different contract manufacturer and there were issues during the transition or what, but Walgreens continues to say that it has not been discontinued but isn't currently in stock. I'm sending an inquiry to Walgreens via their website and hope to hear back soon.
Thank you Amanda - I can confirm that RXPalace does have the Aprodine and it is the exact same formula as the old Actifed and Wal-Act. However, shipping is $10 but might be well worth it for some.
Walgreens is still carrying Wal-Act. Same ingrediants of old formula Actfed. In Wisconsin and other states. May not be, or have card at shelves. You need to go to pharmacy and get it. Usually visible behind the cashier. Need to present ID as you can only buy so much in a time frame. Each US state may be different. Just got some yesterday 8/30/2014.
Old formula actifed is no longer made, but there are 2 alternatives. Wal-Act at Walgreens. Or have your pharmacist order aprodine made by Major Pharmaceuticals. It is the same formula as the original Actifed1
From what I am finding, it has been discontinued. Places that had it in stock where able to continue selling the supply they had, but once it runs out, there is no way for them to order in a new supply.
The latest formulation contained 10mgs of Phenylephrine and 4mgs of Chlorpheniramine, both of which are available in a number of other products that are readily available over the counter, so you might just want to look for a comparable product, or ask your pharmacist to help you find one.

Are there any other questions or comments?
I spoke this week with the Johnson and Johnson/McNeil Pharmaceutical information line. I was told that the decision to end the production/marketing of Actifed was made by "marketing". I understand that to mean that J&J has other products (Sudafed, for instance, or Benedryl which I see is advertised on this site) that they want to push. This makes sense because even when Actifed was for sale, where did you find it? At the bottom of the shelf...you found Actifed only if you looked for it whereas the heavily promoted stuff was up there, in quantity, at eye level. Like you I (and my family) always found Actifed to be the most effective in dealing with our allergy symptoms and sadly we have not found any other formula that can substitute. I'm sure that inside J&J there is a rationale. It's only in real life that the effects are felt. It's all very frustrating. I wish J&J would sell the rights to someone else if they don't want to make it themselves. (Anyone for J&J monitoring this site???)
Thanks for the info i just made a trip to pickup some Wal-Act.
Walgreens still sells their brand called Wal-Act which is the closet thing to Actifed i've ever found. My allergies are horrible too and only Actifed ever did it for me! But since it's been discotinued i found that Wal-Act wrks just as well for me! They sel it to you at the pharmacy dept. but you have to show them your license or ID.
Pharmacist at Walgreen's told me Actifed is no longer made and Wal-Act house brand was a replacement. Same as other posts in this thread. Tried it last night and it worked wonderfully. Just like Actifed.
I have also spent a lot of money trying other medicines, some of which are very costly too, but the result is ZERO.
"Actifed", please come back and save a lot of people from being suffered by cold, like me.
Actified Cold and Allergy Medicine - DIN 02238302 ... small white tablet with Triproildine Hydrochloride as the antihistamine ... IT IS THE ONLY antihistamine that stops a bad bout of allergy (continuous sneezing) for me ... I always took it at bedtime as it makes me sleepy but that's fine at least I can sleep w/o waking up sneezing and sneezing ... and now SADLY I understand they have discontinued it. This is very upsetting as I have tried all of the newer expensive antihistamines but they are useless ... I've spent too much money on things that do not work.
Why this people treat us like this? No more actifed in stores. The congress that pass the bill to stop the producer need to be impeached. Actifed is the only trusting pill for allergy.
I found another site that shared that there are three other brands which are equivalent to Wal-Act: Genac and Aprodine and Rhino PRONT from the UK & GERMANY. rxpalace is a place that will ship the Aprodine in the US. It is out of Florida. Pricing is quite high - 14.98 + 10 sh for 2 pkgs of 24 - but it is supposed to be the same formula. Read about it in another thread. Hopefully, Walgreens will have a timeline for Wal-Act availability.
Oh good I'm glad it's not a scam ! Now I'm excited for my actifed to arrive hahaa! I would love to go to London and load up lol but for now I'll just have to suck it up I've never seen anyone have as bad allergies as myself so I'm willing to pay for relief at this point lol! I'm allergic to grass so that ranges from beginning of May until mid July so I've got about a month of hardcore suffering left but when I take Actifed I have 0 symptoms it's a miracle !! Thanks to everyone for the help on here!!!!!
