Actifed Cold And Allergy Availability (Page 6) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI always found Actifed to be the only cold medicine that worked for me. Now I cant find it at any of my local drug stores even behind the counter. Is it still available? Even the pharmacist I talked to thought it was on the shelf and then realized they quit carrying it.
I was curious as to how many boxes of Wal-Act 48ct. with 60mg pseudoephedrine are you allowed to purchase in one month?
Hello...we just took a trip to Italy last summer and the Alitalia lost our main suitcase for 3 days in the Naples airport. We were forced to buy basics in Sorrento and I ended up having to take Actifed because there was no such thing as "little red Sudafed" like I took one of every night before bed. Yes, one of the ingredients in Actifed is the main ingredient in Sudafed (the original) and the drug dealers use it to make methamphetamine. It's a huge problem here in Indiana. I took 2 of the package of 12 and the remaining 10 have been lying here on the dresser in the box for a year, I'm ashamed to say! They are plentiful in Italy, the packaging is all in Italian and it looks to be a Johnson & Johnson company and manufactured in France.
See 2nd reply down about Wal-Act. And a number of previous posts about this product from Walgreens. It is Walgreens' version of the brand, Actifed. Try it & see.
Can I take Wal-Act from Walgreens with my prescription drugs: Neurontin , Lisinopril,
Metoprolol, Glimeperide ?
You can find actifed at Wal-greens, it is called Wal-act, need to ask for it at the pharmacy.
Just left a Walgreens, where I was told it's been discontinued!
Re: Bob (# 109)
It's available in Texas at Drug Emporium.

Actifed Cold and Allergy is now named Aprodine. It is available over the counter but you need to ask for it and sign for it.
Go to Wal-Greens, over the counter, and ask for Wal-Act. MY HUSBAND TAKES ALL THE TIME.
I checcked with Shoppers and they say that they have stopped carrying it. Reasons not known or given
Claritin is the #1 allergy medication people use to create meth, not Actifed (this is coming from a cashier at SDM) Actifed was always available for those with hardcore allergies!
I need something that works... reactin, claritin, arius and even benadryl do not work for me.
BRING IT BACK OR I'LL GLADLY BE THE TESTING DUMMY FOR A NEW IMPROVED "ACTIFED"!!
Thank you for posting this question. The people who replied to you seem to know more about how to find the original Actifed than people on any other site I have visited.
It is interesting to me to hear that McNeil manufactures it though. I was unable to find the original Actifed (allergies.emedtv.com/actifed/original-actifed.html) in the US , so my family has been ordering it from Northwest Pharnacy in Canada. The product we received was packaged by Glaxo Smith Kline.
When we tried to place an order with them last week, we were informed that the original Actifed is no longer sold in Canada now. Thankfully - after reading though all the replies to your post - I have learned that Wal-Act does indeed have the same ingredients as the original Actifed. I just wonder how long that will be the case :(
March 2013-Aprodine (2.5 mg triprolidine HCL & 60 mg pseudoephedrine) is distributed by Major Pharmaceuticals, 31778 Enterprise Dr., Livonia, MI 48150, USA. My pharmacy was able to order some from their distributor in Phoenix.
Not any more. Walgreens has stopped selling Wal-Act. It seems so unfair!
Except that Wal-Act is now unavailable at any of our local Walgreens (sw lower Michigan).
Thanks Bruce (#82) and Ashleyyxo (#83) for the great info. My main problem was a hacking, constant dry cough, probably caused by post nasal drip from allergies. I do use a nasal spray (prescribed) which didn't help with the cough. The Dr. gave me Co-Actifed which is Actifed but also has Codiene in it. They are still available by prescription but at 40.00 for 28 tabs I couldn;t afford them (especially as I sometimes need 4 a day.) The doctor prescribed Tylenol 2 (or I could have had Tylenol 3) which has the Codiene in it and is covered by Pharmacare. Codiene suppresses my cough, so problem solved. I have very little sneezing, or other allergy symptoms (thankfully.)
I think Actifed (and it's knock-offs) were quietly deemed illegal as they're used to make meth, so we sinus sufferers are scrood!
This has ibuprofen in addition, but both of the other ingredients
Advil - Allergy and congestion relief
Ingredients: Chlorpheniramine maleate4 mg, Ibuprofen 200 mg, Phenylephrine HCI 10 mg
at Publix $9.99
just found actifed in italy..sold in every drugstore and no limit
The Shoppers Drug Mart "Life" brand and the Loblaws "Exact" brand have the same formulation: pseudoephedrine hydrocloride, acetaminophen, and doxylamine succinate. Not exactly Actifed but close and with (for us) similar if not exactly the same efficacy. Interestingly, it is marketed (and this is the exact title...there is no other name) as "Sinus Medication Nighttime Relief, Extra Strength". Note: no reference to allergy...and contains acetaminophen. There is a daytime formulation (which I don't have at the moment) that is called something like "Cold and Sinus Daytime Relief" where, I suspect, the doxylamine succinate is replaced with something that will not make you drowsy (not a concern with the night time version). No guarantees but it might work for some people as it has for us...and as a generic medicine the price is reasonable (although they are not giving it away).
