I am so happy to find this site. I have read many negative things about accutane and from many close friends some serious side effects from the drug. Sadly even a suicide. I took my 15 yo son to a dermatologist today to see if there were some treatments for scarring. I explained to her that I was NOT interested in accutane. She treated me like some uneducated mother who was causing her child long lasting distress from scarring. She brushed off the side effects and continued to tell my son how unhappy he would be if he didn't take accutane. That it would effect his future and his life in a negative way. I am infuriated, he has never been overly concerned about his acne. So angry. It was nice to come here for reassurance about my decision. I appreciate people taking the time to speak ...
I am only two weeks into accutane (absorica) only on 20 mg. I am thinking of getting a tattoo within the next couple of days. is it safe to get one that soon into the treatment? ## Hello, Katie! How are you? You shouldn't have any tattoos done, while taking Accutane. It can interfere with healing and increase the risk of your developing severe scar tissue, which could mess up a tattoo. The FDA lists the other typical side effects of Accutane as possibly including nausea, joint pain, skin infection, skin rash, nosebleeds and blurred vision. Is there anything else I can help with?
My daughter took accutane 6 months ago and is now having problems with her vision, her eyes get really tired easily and burn, also she is feeling depressed all the time, and she is also tired all the time. Does anyone know if these symptoms will eventually go away, or is she stuck with them forever? Also any recommendations on treatment for these problems? Thanks a lot. ## Accutane, which contains the active ingredient Isotretinoin has been known to have an effect on vision and cause long term side effects, but has she consulted her doctor? It is important that she do so, to determine whether or not it was caused by the medication and, after receiving a diagnosis, what her treatment options are and only a doctor will be able to advise her on that. The severe side effects that this medic...
Has anybody found any resolve for fatigue induced by accutane? It's been years since I've been off, and I'm so exhausted all of the time. Anybody else suffer from exhaustion? ## Hello, Eric! How are you doing? I am sorry that you're suffering from such fatigue. However, are you certain that it is due to treat he Accutane? Has this been medically confirmed? There are many other issues that can cause it, so you need to have it checked out to be sure. You may have some other medical issue going on that requires treatment. ## I do. I took acutane for 7 years, never thought about the relation with acutane and chronic fatigue... We'd probably never know...
Hi, I took 2 courses of Accutane, several months each, years ago. I had to interrupt the second one because Accutane caused severe depression. Some 3 years later I got a neurological issue: my right hand dropped and I lost thumb extension. About a year ago my left hand got affected. I have mobility issues in both hands and severe muscle wasting in hands and forearms. I got diagnosed 1 month ago with MMN, multifocal motor neuropathy, a serious and progressive neuro-muscular disease. The cause is unknown, but I cannot help thinking Accutane caused all this. Now, I must know how to stop the damage and how to clean my system from Accutane, because there is no real, lasting treatment for my diagnosis.
UpdatedHi there, so I'm a 17 year old girl and I want to take accutane, I spoke to my dermatologist and he agreed (due to my bad and oily skin) that I should take accutane. I am not planning on taking birth control pills and I understand what the risks are and I am not sexually active in anyway and I'm not planning to be so here is my question and what I'm currently struggling with: I have the pills (accutane) and I'm supposed to be taking them like 2 weeks ago but I never did because I haven't gotten my period since September! And in supposed to take them after my last period but i never got it this month so?!?! It could be the sudden weight loss and exercises? Or the stress of school? I don't know but I just want to know if it's okay to start accutane if I didn...
UpdatedHi. I am a 34 danish guy, who were on accutane, between the age of 18 and 25. Now, 16 years later, I am still suffering a great deal from psychological side effects from these horrible pills. I am very, very sure of that. And I am extremely motivated to go and collect as much "evidence" together as possible. I could probably list a total of 15 side effects, I still struggle with after accutane. Half of those would be psychological. The worst of those are, anxiety and a "numb" brain. People who have the same after accutane, knows what I mean about having a numb brain. Here is where I really need your help. I am looking for others, who have taken accutane and afterwards has struggled - and more importantly - still struggles with psychological issues. It would be a great help
UpdatedHas anyone been on Accutane for a long term low dose regimen? I read that some people have taken only 20-40mg/wk for like 20 years for psoriasis, eczema, and other skin diseases but not for acne. I think I even read someone using ultra low dose regime for oil control. I am considering this treatment. This regimen is more common in Europe from what I read. ## What has your doctor advised? Accutane is very hard to get and use, in the U.S. and there is a very good reason for that. This medication contains the active ingredient Isotretinoin and it has been shown to be a severe Teratogen, so it can cause severe birth defects to any future children you may have. Learn more: There are other side effects it can cause that can also be permanent, such as alopecia and IBS. ## From my experience......
Hey Guys, Had a question. I just finished my entire cycle of accutane. Now i'm realizing I lost 5-6 pills in the process (they fell down bathroom sink drains when I dropped them or something else). Will this effect me in the long term? ## Hello, Ben! How are you? No, that won't make a difference. Did it work well for you? Did your acne clear up?
I had taken Sotret, 30 mg for 2 months back in 2010. without much problem I developed back pain in 2012. In winters I developed elbow and knee pain as well. Back pain went away with exercise and elbow and knee pain went away with summers. Now I am living in Bangalore, thus havent exposed to winters for a year. I have no problem in others joints at all. My question is that can these symptoms which emerged much later than my dosage(tht too very less) can be the reason for such achy (just elbow and knee) joint pain?? My CT scan says everything is right with my skeleton system. ## Just to add. I have other problem. My head hairs are strong, body hairs are few. No stomach problem as such. Nothing as such at all. About from mild depression in 2013.
Did anybody else get the crazy dry lips??? I am trying to find something that works, and I was using vaseline but I don't like using chemicals (because somebody told me its left over from oil production, so gross). So I'm looking around and was thinking of going organic but burt's bees seems waxy and kind of weird. There was another one at whole foods from Germany but its like $14. I heard of one from Austin, can't remember the name, like 512 something, here it's good and organic and makes your lips soft but can't remember the whole name. Does anybody know what to use??? Should I just find the 512 stuff? ## There is a lip balm Called Dr. Dans... That's what I was given at the doctors office. {edited for privacy} ## Hello! Classical side effects of Accutan ar ...
I took accutane as an early teenager and sense then my period cramps got progressively worse I am 20 years old now and I have been put on prescription pain killers for my cramps. I also have had at least one ovarian cyst. From my research it seems that the two could be linked. I am 100% positive that Accutane made my skin highly sensitive (I must wear sun block every day year round or I burst into flames like a vampire). Could it have also cause my severe cramps? Also, I am in a serious relationship, which has made me wonder if I may have trouble getting pregnant in the future. Does anyone have any knowledge pertaining to this? ## Hello, KenCat! How are you? The long-term problems that may be caused by Accutane are still under dispute. Have you consulted your doctor? There is a chance i...
I have been having a lot of problems . Recently . And I won't to know if they are being caused by my use of acutane while being in the air force both of my shoulders or really painful ## Hello, Ted! How are you doing? Sorry about the problem that you're having. Has Accutane been known to sometimes cause lifelong problems in people that took it? Yes, it has. Can anyone online say whether or not that is what has caused your issue? No, we cannot. Have you consulted your doctor? That so the only way you are going to get a proper diagnosis and a solution, if any.
I am 37years old having bad acne all my life My doc put me on accutaine week ago so worried about the side effects .Being a single parent with three young kids to raise.Does accutaine works for hormonal acne ?spiro didn't help me ## Hello, Tresjoli! How are you? If it's hormonal, have you tried any of the oral contraceptives? Many of them can help with hormonal acne and they are less risky than this medication.
I was on accutane in the early 90's (right after it was approved) and it did the job at the time. Now, 20 years later, I went through a severe episode of osteolysis, where my jaw bones literally melted away. I had 4 gum surgery to remove bad tissues, gum grafts, and I have scaling (deep gum cleaning with the hook from hell) every 4 months. Is there anyone else out there with the same problems that took accutane in the past? The very nature of this problem, that is an asymptomatic periodontisis with bone loss, is a very long process, and subtle one. So if this is accutane related, I doubt that it is a well documented long term side effect yet. Anyway, I am asking because 2 dentist told me that I was not the first one to bring up this link between accutane and gum/bone problems. Thank...
I've been on Isotretinoin for 6 months and my dermatologist said I have another 2 months to go at least as I am still a grade 2. However, after serious consideration, I have decided to get off the medication and try antibiotics and topical creams again (though they did not work the first time I tried them). I was generally a physical person, but once starting Isotretinoin, I found it hard to walk up the stairs without being out of breath. I experienced incredible headaches which I tried to manage by blocking out all light and noise, though that rarely helped. I am a pilot and had to stop flying for months because I didn't feel I could physically task myself with it. Flying isn't particularly demanding physically yet still I was unable to manage it. My skin was very, very dry...
I am currently a 17 year old male and senior in highschool, and suffered from acne for over 5 years. In 8th grade acne started invading my face. Freshman year it continued, and would not go away. We tried creams, pills just about anything you could possibly try. My sophmore year is when it erupted. Acne started forming on my back and chest, and I literally had boils on my back and chest. It was very painful. I also play football, and it hurt very bad to put on my shoulder pads, and the embarassment to even take my shirt off in the locker room after practice. It caused me a lot of stress. It hurt to take showers because the water would hit these boils. I had cystic acne. I had over 15 large pimples/boils on my back and chest both. This continued for another year. As I still tried creams,...
I am currently on Accutane medication and I have been taking it for the past 2 and a half weeks. The first week when I started taking it, it coincided with my vacation in Hawaii. As you can imagine, I was exposed to sun in Hawaii and after my trip I noticed these brown spots (which sort of look like freckles) on my right hand. The strange thing is that it's only on my one hand for now, nowhere else. I've never experienced something like this. Is it possible that Accutane caused it? If so, will those spots go away? ## Here's a link to a picture of the brown spots I'm referring to: s.yimg.com/hd/answers/i/50476d0a652b4730.jpeg ## Hello, Aniiulka7! How are you doing? Sorry about the problem that you're having. They could just be due to your time in the sun, many medicat...
I'm 16 and I've had acne for just over 2 years. I've tried loads of different tablets and creams and none have worked so my doctor transferred me to a dermatologist. My last option was to use Accutane and I have to take 20mg two times a day. This is my second day of taking it and since I've woke up this morning I've felt lightheaded and still got it now and also when I was laid in bed I had a little spasm in my hand and my fingers moved which kind of worried me. I don't know if I'm over reacting because I know the side effects of this drug but is this normal on the second day? I've been reading what people have been putting about this drug and it's worrying me a lot about depression and how it can affect you later on in life with pain. I've been u...
