Accutane Long Term Side Effects (Page 53)

I have a son that took accutane 60 mg a day for six months in a row three years ago. Now after many trips to doctors over strange medical problems, it seems accuatne is the culprit medication that has caused servere joint and muscle pain, severe dry lips, redness in face, eye infections of own immune system attacking itself, systems of osteoarthritis in both shoulders, both wrist and right hand, blood in stool, possible hair loss, abnormal liver function test results in AST and ALT. My son went from being a high school football and track athlete while taking this medication three years ago to someone that is in constant pain just washing a car. After I have researched this drug extensively, I can't believe that the FDA allows this drug originally made for cancer patients to be marketed for teenagers with acne. All one has to do is look online what vitamin A overdose does to someone and then you have the results of what this medication has done to my son. This drug needs to be taken off them market ASAP and the drug companies that make it need to compensate all teenagers that they have possible ruined their future. Shame on them! What is going on here?

Hi all. I took accutane starting in September 2007 to March 2008 (6 months). Everything went well during my treatment. I did have dry skin and lips bits that was to be expected. About 2 years after being off accutane, I found myself with horrible stomach problems. I am constantly feeling sick. By constantly I am in pain at least 6 out of 7 days. I am sometimes so nauseas I have to take Tigan and just sleep. I never had stomach problems before accutane. Actually, nothing was wrong with me before accutane. I knew of the effects that could have occurred but I was so down on myself I had to do something. Besides feeling sick, my skin is still very dry and my face does not tan in the summer. I also have back pain as well. I always said accutane was the worst and best thing I had ever done. I feel if you NEED to take accutane you should because it will make you feel better. I also feel there are safer alternatives that can also be taken.

Amanda this is just the beginning of the side effects. This "back" pain is not your back at all. It's actually your liver. I dealt with severe liver spasms. You will actually continue to get worse unless you see a natural doctor. Trust me I know, because I was in your position and thought nothing of it. Went to mainstream medical doctors and they ran all these tests and said nothing was wrong. The problem is these tests don't address liver issues from a cellular level or even amino deficiency to heal the liver. Once the full symptoms hit you'll really begin to hate the drug. Especially when your doctor says it's safe and they run tests. Accutane inhibits the telomerase enzyme and thus prevents cellular mitosis. It kills your immune system. What's happening is yeast and bacteria are taking over your body. Ever wonder why beer drinkers end up with liver cirrhosis... thats right beer is loaded with yeast. Anyways, I hope you don't get like I did... 90 lbs and looking like I just came out of a concentration camp, but noone offered me help. I am telling you that you must seek a natural doctor if you want to live. Once you get to 90lbs there's not much to live for.

I believe I am actually identical to you in the side effects.
I cannot believe that someone else knows these feelings I thought I was all alone.
They found a mass in my back this week only because a rib fractured under the strain of it growing is my guess.
I cannot explain how this drug has effected me but your explanation helps.

I want to thank all the people who posted as it has helped me understand some things that are wrong with me. I am very angry with myself that I did not catch that it was the Accutane doing the things to me. I now think back to my time in the army when I would go for long distance runs and have so much gas I could burp enough to help my breathing and that made something I enjoyed very hard and miserable for me. I honestly thought I had picked up something bad on a peace keeping mission in Bosnia. I know the mental effects that severe acne has on ones life however you should Never Never put your child on this drug. It has 22 years since my first dose and the effects just keep coming. Take the good advice on this post do the alternative medicine.

To all the dear people and or family members that believe they have been effected with long term side effects of Accutane, Amnesteem isotretinoin, Sotret, Claravis,
My goal for 2013 is to put together a documentary of the horror stories on how these medications have destroyed the health of us or our love ones. I have the time in my life to visit and document personal stories. My goal is to visit as many cases as I can and document the long term effects of what these drugs have done to our love ones and own personal stories by putting a face to each case. Also to find and interview as many doctors as I can that will admit to the pros and cons of these drugs.
This adventure will be somewhat costly to travel throughout the United States with expenses for the proper camera equipment, fuel, overnight stays etc. All expenses will be documented if I can find a way to raise funds.
If you would like to share your personal experience in a documentary with the goal of having it published, please leave a message on this forum and we can start a plan on how to make this happen. I realize there are many people on this forum that live outside the United States. For the time being I would like to concentrate with the U.S. since I live there. If there is a way to be able to afford travel out of U.S. with time, I would be willing to travel to do so.
Please reply with any thoughts and ideas that will bring your story to light by developing a documentary. I am personally crushed daily on how Amnesteen has affected my son’s health. Also by many other post found here of heartbreak by watching a perfectly healthy teenager’s health be destroyed with so much to offer to this world. Plus the cases of mental anguish that have caused depression, even death.

I'm really excited about your quest, but I believe it will fall on deaf ears. Most people in America believe in modern medicine aka pharmaceuticals. I'm not sure how many people understand these drugs, but pretty much every drug is bad. The side effects are there small or large. Ever wonder why women are getting breast cancer? Hmm HRT? Hormone replacement therapy which creates acid in the body. Hmm acidic conditions are favorable to bacteria. Anyways, trying to logically use science to explain something to somebody who hasn't starved or experienced extreme pain for 5 years is really hard. Ever wonder why you can't sue a drug company for immunizations? Why would they have a law like that... could it be because immunizations cause an insurmountable about of damage to a newborn. All of the sudden children are getting cancers. The same children taking immunizations. Anyways, some of this stuff sounds crazy, but I can tell you that if someone would have told me accutane would kill you in the slowest painful way I would of said heck no my respected Doctor is doing tests and assures me its safe. I mean doctors are here to help... oh wait the same doctors have the lowest life expectancy and used to smoke camel cigs. That's something I just recently learned. Anyways, rambling over.

I think your goal to document the illnesses in patients is a very admirable thing. I am still in shock reading the side effects and realizing that I have almost every side effect except fro colon problems. I can thank a doctor who removed my gallbladder when it failed and told me to take a probiotic called align to help my digestion.
I go to a specialist tomorrow to have a mass looked at that is from the top of my neck down past my shoulder blades. The mass moves and was so hard to see the doctors could not see it until the pressure from it cracked a rib.
The mass that I did not know of has given me about two years of hell with Veins busting in my neck. I have been to doctors maybe 50 times in the last 2 years after retiring from active duty. Not one recognized the problem. It showed itself when I actually passed out because the temperature of it feels like it is boiling inside me and its a tough one to take. If you have taken this drug and more than once make sure your getting full body checkups for all these side effects. The earlier the treatment the better for you. I do not think I would have the strength to redo the last two years.nor would I care to.

Hi everyone ... i took this thing when i was 16 and there were so my things had happened with me. depression bones jaw and others .. and i couldn't find the answer till now ..i took it for two months and i dont know how to explain my life after i took it .. the depression is so bad like i could die ! because i really want to be happy but i cant .and now i'm 19 im a freshman, i dont know because of the environment or what but my depression has decreased .. it is not gone but i just know how to cope with it or could it possible that because i took it for a short time and it has been three year passed , so i may get better ??

I hope you fell better soon! Don't be afraid to tell your doctor how your feeling. There are many people that suffer a bought of depression from 12-99 years old.

Never had depression until accutane. I want you to look up acetyl aldehydes. Also do your ears get stopped up a lot? Are your eyes red? Are your gums pink? Seek a natural doctor to help you. Only natural doctors are not part of the big pharma scam. A diet of just 3 months could be all that is seperating you from correcting your problem. Accutane completely wipes the immune system out. It takes 5 years for bacteria to regrow and whatever gets in during that period of time is the reason people get sick. Your wonderful dermatologist forgot to mention this. Anyways, I could explain more about these poision, but I won't. If you wnat to know the truth about medicine look up Hulda Clarks books. By the way she is called a quack. The truth is hard to digest, but eventually the mind free's itself.

TJB, natural doctors can be just as bad as dermatologist and regular physicians (maybe worse), they need to survive too. The ones that I have met are always trying to sell me some sort of expensive bs. What I do is extensive research on FDA approved medications, interactions, dosage, and then order my medications online from a legit online pharmacy. If I need lab work done, I order the test that I need and go to a lab to have my blood draw.

Not all acne drugs are the same. Accutane is specifically a chemo drug. Accutane actually can kill good cells in the body. So think about what Chemotherapy does. It specifically distrupts cellular mitosis... Our brains, bones, skin, colon all rely on cellular turnover and they shut this off. Not smart!

BTW Accutane is an FDA approved medicine... I would stay clear of anything FDA approved. Unfortunately, natural doctors have to make a living so they do sell supplements. Supplements are not bad. If you want to listen to the person below about taking FDA approved medicines just look at all the tv commercials for lawsuits against fda approved drugs. The ones I like specifically are the commercials that say "if you've experienced death call us." These commercials are classic and true. I'm a big time sufferer from accutane and it nearly killed me so please take what I'm saying with merit. I was 90lbs at one point from this drug and looked like I came out of a concentration camp. NO FDA approved drug helped me. Only food and natural medicine. I have pictures and documentation to prove it so this isn't a lie. God Bless!

To TJB: Many drugs in the Tetracycline family are used to treat acne....these drugs are TOTALLY different from those that are the generic of ACCUTANE. ALL DRUGS HAVE SIDE EFFECTS.....but ACCUTANE is one of the worst EVER!!! Very few drugs have the far-reaching, life-long side effects that ACCUTANE has, plus ACCUTANE permanently alters your DNA by damaging the telomeres that bind DNA within you. There is LOTS of info on the Internet.....I wasn't so lucky back in 1982 when I was put on ACCUTANE and was only told that the side-effects were minimal, would go away and not to get pregnant. Then, I was put back on ACCUTANE in 1984 and 1986, because my acne kept coming back.

Meanwhile, my health is suffering with Gastro-intestinal problems, intense flatulation, IBS, inflammation, swelling, pain in my bones, muscle and tendons, depression, death wishes, dizziness, tingling, needle-prick sensations, numbness, headaches, insomnia.

I was miserable and doctors could find NOTHING WRONG!!! Floating from specialist to specialist... For over 20 years, I was told that I was a Hypochondriac, that it was "ALL IN MY HEAD", that I was psychosomatic, my pain wasn't real, my problems weren't real. NO ONE EVER TOLD ME ACCUTANE HAD DONE THIS TO ME!! Now, I have an endochrinologist, who once I told him about my ACCUTANE history, fully acknowledged that ACCUTANE can and will cuase all of these symptoms, but even though I had been seeing him for 5 years, this part of my medical history had never been looked at or discussed.

LESSON: EVEN if you took ACCUTANE 30 years ago....
TELL EVERY DOCTOR YOU SEE!! THEY WILL NOT ASK IF YOU EVER TOOK ACCUTANE.....BUT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOUR DOCTORS TO KNOW THAT YOU HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS VERY AWFUL DRUG!!

I have been reading these posts and finally understanding what has been beating me down for a few years. I have had all the stuff you listed or have and something else I need help answering if anyone can. I have a mass in my back and neck that are hot as fire it seems. I feel like I am boiling alive from this it starts below my shoulder blades and go's to the base of my skull from left shoulder to right shoulder and the base of my neck is very swollen and hot. It blew a vessel in my neck to drain itself and I feel like I am a very weird looking teapot that the thing boils the corruption and sends it out like steam. I have seen many specialist and am waiting for a surgeon to get it out of me. I read something like this somewhere but do not remember where can anyone help? Thanks for the postings it helps not to be alone in this anymore.

Vet4hire, it sounds like the masses in those areas must be interfering with the nerves thereby causing nerve inflammation and the associated pain you are feeling. It sounds horrible, I hope the doctors can bring you some relief. Good luck!

I have been but the last was a few years ago. I had a Doctor mention Parasite so my wheels are turning I have been to countries like Bosnia, Kuwait, Iraq, but not in a few years.I had a Doctor mention Parasite so my wheels are turning I will get it checked anything to put an end to this. Thanks for the advice. I cannot ever remember having that checked.
