Accutane Long Term Side Effects (Page 48) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have a son that took accutane 60 mg a day for six months in a row three years ago. Now after many trips to doctors over strange medical problems, it seems accuatne is the culprit medication that has caused servere joint and muscle pain, severe dry lips, redness in face, eye infections of own immune system attacking itself, systems of osteoarthritis in both shoulders, both wrist and right hand, blood in stool, possible hair loss, abnormal liver function test results in AST and ALT. My son went from being a high school football and track athlete while taking this medication three years ago to someone that is in constant pain just washing a car. After I have researched this drug extensively, I can't believe that the FDA allows this drug originally made for cancer patients to be marketed for teenagers with acne. All one has to do is look online what vitamin A overdose does to someone and then you have the results of what this medication has done to my son. This drug needs to be taken off them market ASAP and the drug companies that make it need to compensate all teenagers that they have possible ruined their future. Shame on them! What is going on here?

Im gonna make this short and sweet I took accutane at (15-16 years old). I went from being a handsome Baseball star to somebody with joint issues. I never grew again it fuzed my growth plates and I started to lose my hair. This is insane so many people have had problems like I and perhaps worse with all the other issues it causes. I want to put a class action suite together, they should be held to give back to all the people they screwed over due to greed. I know it ruined my life and im sure it ruined others! I say we put a suite together!

Hi.
I'd like to point out that I have made some new videos on
youtube.com/FireYourDoctor

I'm actually now editing one of them and it should be up soon. I think it'd be great if you could get involved with my suggestion that's at the end of the video. Message me on YouTube if we like. We can change the world for the better if we put our heads together.

I hope you don't mind if, in a future video, I take some things that you have said and quote them. I want to show how terrible this drug is, and not only for the person taking it, but for the families and friends of that person.

Thanks,

Stefan

Hi Kim,
First off I want to say I think it's GREAT that you came on here, did your research before going on this Drug & are taking the time to ask the People that took this Drug...Smart of you!!! I personally will tell you from my son's experience with this drug NO, Do Not take this drug.. I know that my son & others on this site & other sites have too MANY of the SAME Side Effects, it is not a Coincidence. They told my son once he stopped the Drug his side effects would go away. Well yrs. later not only have they NOT gone away but he has developed NEW Side Effects yrs. after being on this drug. Kim, I ask you this??? Do you know this drug is a Chemo drug. Please go to this site chemocare.com/bio/isotretinoin.asp
Has your Dr. told you about the DAMAGE it can cause you? I could go on & on but I just want to say I HOPE & PRAY You will NOT take this POISON.. Try a different diet, sometimes eliminating dairy can help with the acne. There are OTHER alternatives, Please stay away from this Drug... Don't become like SO MANY others that are SUFFERING from making the Choice to take Accutane. I just want to add that there are people out there that have NOT suffered from Bad side effects, they are the Lucky one's. But is it worth the RISK???
I Wish You the BEST...Keep Us posted :-)

Hi Kim, Nancy... I too wish i could turn back the clock for my son who will be 18 in 2 weeks. He definately will not be going out with his friends celebrating like most kids do. because since taking this Poision his life has been ruined. He's been off the drug 13 months now ,and was only on it 8 weeks (30 or 35 mg a day i think) He has been through so much and No one can say what is wrong with him. As of today he suffers joint pain throughout his body. He feels like there is something going on with his Veins right now as the pain is different.. He has suffered Chest pains, Head pain, Halloucinations, Palputations, strange sensations of running water on his head & hands etc,.He cannot eat citrus fruits any longer because he now has Reflux. The list goes on ...
Other members of my family have suffered that have taken this drug but we only put two & two together after the research i have done..
My sister has lost all her teeth through Bone Loss which she never realised is more than likely due to taking this Crap. She suffered for years with what they thought Fibromyalgia... Strangely enough it seems to have subsided. But she took this going back 20 years ago and has had it 2- 3 times since. The amount of people you speak to that have suffered but not realised because it doesn't always show up whilst your'e taking it but years later.

I Would Not advise anyone to take any form of Chemotherapy drug unless you have Cancer and you don't have much option...
To give this to kids whilst they are still growing is "Utter Madness".

KIM,
I tried everything possible before accutane. Including 3 years of anabiotics after proactive, washes, toners, special brushes. you name it, i had bad acne. then went straight into accutane for 4 months. I wish i would have taken accutane sooner. All i had was dry skin, and a burnt face for a while. I stopped as soon as i got a blood test with my liver 4 points over normal which isnt bad. If u play year around sports, eat okay, and are a hyprocondiac like me you will be fine

larry,
I play year around junior olympic waterpolo which is demanding on the knees. from my experience i got cramps and tendon strains in the growing and general knee region and feet that stayed for a week or so then went away. My friend on the team also had the same problems, i think it is likely that there could be a conection, but after exercising the sore area everyday it fixxed itsself as i was still taking the medication.

Garrot,
My advise to you, if you acne is gone, throw the rest of the pills down the toilet. My son made it 5 months with no major problems at that point. One the 6 month, he became to have significant blood in his stool and never been the same since. STOP NOW, no need take this med anymore, Please do not take any more chances.

Took accutane forever, worst was the dry lips, no matter how much you chap stick moisturize whatever it's like fighting a losing battle, it's like Sisyphus trying to keep them from getting nasty cause its drying from the inside out, might as well try and keep your hair from growing...

Garrot,
As far as I know, with my son at least, he quit taking Amnesteem the day he almost passed out at a HS Track Event and then taken to the ER with significant blood in his stool. Their is no process of cutting back , my understanding is you just quit.
Best Wishes,
Scott

thank u all for taking time out to reply to my post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
u all being so very concerned about me taking the medicine........
I have decided not to take this medicine.
My Nurse prac. did tell me that i might suffer mild joint pain, drylips, dry scalp, dry skin for a short period of time.
But as i read the posts n did more research,, i found this is actually a drug used to treat cancer n by chance it was found to treat acne too.
I m surprised with so many severe side effects why do the doctors prescibe it n that too for teenagers..
Once again thank u all from saving my life ......

I was reading your post I too have swelling on my head. I was only on accutane for 6 weeks. I work in the medical field and all the doctors I work with said it was fairly safe. I started having severe memory loss I would forget what I was saying mid sentence. I have had headaches in the past but accutane took it to a whole different level. I now have pain in my bones and since taking it my hips have not been the same.

Kim - Well done for saying no to Accutane and deciding not to gamble on the future of your health. I don't know if you've seen this page, or if it's been posted before here, but take a look at this page:

articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/05/31/simple-secrets-to-eliminating-acne-for-good.aspx

You might have to etnter your email address to view the page, or you may be able to lose it down, but please read read it because it's worth it! It tells you natural ways to eliminate acne (like how bad wheat is, dairy etc) and what dermatologists don't want you to know.
