Accutane Long Term Side Effects (Page 26)

Updated

I have a son that took accutane 60 mg a day for six months in a row three years ago. Now after many trips to doctors over strange medical problems, it seems accuatne is the culprit medication that has caused servere joint and muscle pain, severe dry lips, redness in face, eye infections of own immune system attacking itself, systems of osteoarthritis in both shoulders, both wrist and right hand, blood in stool, possible hair loss, abnormal liver function test results in AST and ALT. My son went from being a high school football and track athlete while taking this medication three years ago to someone that is in constant pain just washing a car. After I have researched this drug extensively, I can't believe that the FDA allows this drug originally made for cancer patients to be marketed for teenagers with acne. All one has to do is look online what vitamin A overdose does to someone and then you have the results of what this medication has done to my son. This drug needs to be taken off them market ASAP and the drug companies that make it need to compensate all teenagers that they have possible ruined their future. Shame on them! What is going on here?

khoov1966... i guess in a way you were lucky that it it later in life you got the joint problems etc. others have unfortunately got the problems whilst still in their teens including my now 17 yr old son. He also gets worse as the day goes on. Why the hell don't the governments do their own study and just see how many people that have taken this damn drug have Terrible Problems. Accutane/ Isotretinoin needs Banning . Stick to what is was initially made for.. Cancer drugs should Not be given to treat Acne !!

I actually did have joint pain while taking it the first time in high school, but it subsided after I went off of it. I was a cheerleader and noticed that my back her when doing stunts, etc..and I know at the time it was from the Accutane. I'm sorry your son is going through all this at such a young age, hopefully he will start feeling better soon. My health overall has been very good, as I am not a "sickly" person, I have just noticed certain things that I think link back to this drug.

Sorry, I meant to say my back "hurt", not her.

I have been on accutane 4 times since I was 19 and I'm now 34. Usually 80-120mg/day for 4-6 months. Don't remember much details. It has been a freaking godsend and it seems to last only about 3-4 years before needing another course. My skin is a oil tanker disaster before accutane. After a course I have perfect skin for approx 2 months after then I need a topical gel called benzamycin and oiliness returns. I have no pain or any problems whatsoever. Just dryness which is controlled with lotions. I get laid ALOT whenever I'm on a course. Some pretty faking hot chicks too! So how's that for a good reason? Anyways, I luv the stuff so much if I could i would buy a accutane factory and eat all it produces. I know that would kill me but I would die happy, with perfect skin, and a hottie on top of me telling me how pretty I was.

Cheers!

To Me: It's amazing how people like you can take it multiple times with no problems; I took one round and am permanently f'ed up. My bro and sis took it no problem, also. It truly affects every body differently - I think that some people's bodies are too sensitive to a genetically altering chemotherapy drug (no surprise there!) I highly regret my mother ever taking me to the dermatologist - I couldn't have given a hoot about my acne, that was her concern, not mine :(

Yeah, I took accutane and then 10 years later slipped on a banana peel. Who's fault was it? Obviously the accutane's fault. What else could it be? It's not like anyone can get sick if they don't take accutane right? It's got nothing to do with flawed genes or bad health habits. It's gotta be the accutane. Gotta be.

Me: You, Sir, are an insensitive, pompous ass! I'd like you to say that in front of my face - just another ignorant, cowardly internet troll who takes pleasure in being a douche bag. Don't you have better things to do with your time if you don't actually have issues from the drug? You're time of suffering will come, trust me; and I don't mean from Accutane! :)

I'm sure if you had been on a drug and you got ill whilst taking it you would be singing a different tune !

Everyone relax! Ok, sorry for proving my point like a asshole but this is the internet. You're never supposed to let some arrogant jerk piss u off by simply typing, cause he was bored. So just read what every little jack off has to say and just ignore the people like me. Unfortunatey, everything I said is true (except for the banana peel thing) and I have the right to express myself anyway I choose. So, f*** off all who think my opinion doesn't count. BTW, Accutane is a godsend for at least 90% of us. So how do u like them apples?

@Me -

Congratulations on having a good experience with Accutane. Yes, everybody's opinion counts, but a little bit of empathy and compassion wouldn't hurt. I'm sure if you were suffering with an affliction you would not like it very much if those who were not in your shoes decided to invalidate your experience or make fun of your circumstances.

Has your "opinion" helped to enrich this discussion thread and provide knowledge which could be of use to others?

I'm sorry to hear accutane messed all of you up who have these nasty side effects. Because if you're desperate enough to buy it illegally or get a rx for it legally then you would be very, very, happy if it worked like it does for the majority of us. Just speaking on their behalf. Unfortunately, like a "net troll".
From Wikipedia: In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory[citation needed], extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
Awesome work whoever called me that. Now I know I'm not alone!

Wanna hear something even worse.

I drink like a fish while on accutane. Like. I get hammered at least 3 times a week and do a few other illicit things to go with the drinking. I also have a drink before bed at least 2 more nights during the week but I think that's negligible. My liver seems to check out ok. *knocking on wood*

Hi Lisa J.,
Yes, 5 years later the thinning of hair continues and son has tried TMJ night guard on teeth trying to help out with his jaw pain. Night Guard has seemed to help. He has not been looked at for jaw bone loss, but has not gained any weight or grow since taking Amnesteem 5 years ago. Just had surgury for Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome this week. It is unclear how he got this although it is seen in
athletes. My son used to play high school sports but had to quit do to leg and back pain. Best wishes with you and your son.

I have come here to explain there is great hope for you all. I took Accutane 7 years ago and experienced many of the symptoms described here. I continued to have life changing/terrible side effects in my digestive system after my 6 month treatment. There was a period where I could not eat anything, not even a bowl of rice, without feeling the need to vomit. My cholesterol spiked up when I was on Accutane and then never decreased for the past 6 years (until now). Most importantly my mental health plummeted. I have been one of the most confident people for as long as I can remember until I went on this drug. After taking Accutane I was experiencing overwhelming social anxiety in the most benign situations, even talking to my family. In despair, I went to more doctors and was prescribed more pharmaceutical drugs to solve the side effects caused by another drug. This was the definition of insanity for me. It was then, that I had an awakening.

About a year ago, I started looking into alternative medicines, AKA Vegetables. I stopped eating meat, began juicing vegetables and fruits and eating salads every day (look into sprouts). I also added wheat grass into my diet (one ounce shot a day). Within a month I had ZERO digestive problems. Even if I went off my new diet for a weekend and ate meat and cakes and everything that used to absolutely kill me. Not a single ounce of indigestion or even discomfort in my stomach. Additionally, this feeling of dread that I had been experiencing for the past 6 years about everything suddenly went away. No more emotional stress over just about everything, and no more anxiety at all. My cholesterol dropped 90 points in the first 4 months. In summary I healed myself. By now I firmly believe I have healed myself on the cellular level. It has been the most incredible experience of my life.

You can detox your body and rebuild your cells from the terrible damage caused by this drug, and all drugs. The answer is to look toward nature. Eat raw vegetables and drink them all day long. You will never ever feel any better, I promise you. You will also feel the shackles of this poison lifted off your body.

Not to mention all the positive side effects of eating healthy. This diet may not be what people want to hear. But think about it. If Accutane gave you joint pain, do you want to be on another drug for the rest of your life which is probably Accutane's distant cousin. Get to the route of the problem and free yourself.

Use Google for a wealth of information about juicing, raw diets, sprouting, wheat grass, etc. It WILL change your life if you allow it.

Hi Ryan, some good information. i recently got a juicer for my son for the same reasons, having spoken to someone i know that also has been down this road. I do try to get organic fruit and veg but it is not always possible. best to give the fruit & veg a good scrub in clean water. Stop eating processed foods this also is toxic.Although i don't usually read I am reading a book "Never be sick again". As my 17 yr old son would say why take medication to suppress the pain and not know what is going on. Also you need to find the cause not just treat the symptoms. Lets face it painkillers can make things worse from its side effects but they wont cure the problem.. My son will not take any form of Generic medicine since taking Isotretinoin

Greetings everyone. I have been doing my research for the past month now on accutane. My younger bro took this for a year. Not exactly sure how long he took it but im guessing he took it for around a year. Unsure of his dosage and how many times he took it since i havent seen him for like 6 years. Now, you cant even talk to him properly. He seems to have some wild moods from not talking or going insanely violent and rage of anger. He has become psychotic and last week, i saw him have convulsions for around 10 min. He is now at the hospital being diagnosed for being schizophrenic and is treated with meds for that and for his convulsion, he is taking epival. a month before we sent him to the doctor for his violent behavior, he suddenly went blind for a few hours. I believe that since he had convulsions or a seizure last week, he hasnt been talking the same. I need help in researching what I can do to help. Please any data or any links to how I can help him would be very much appreciated. he has been going thru major paranoia and has kept to himself. he has destroyed many of his past things by burning them and just acting very destructive. THrowing things and just being not normal. Please help me find answers. I want to know if his blindness could have been from accutane, seems like it was from it, his bowels have been not normal as well. He has not motor problems, walks like a robot, always depressed and doesnt know what to do with his life. It seems to have affected his brain and cant even talk properly. Please anyone give me more data or what can be done to help. thanks.

Brian
