Accutane And Infertility (Page 5)

I took accutane almost 14 years ago as a teenager. I am now a 32 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with infertility that they believe is linked to autoimmune issues. I truly believe that accutane is the cause of this; from the research that I have done it seems that accutane has been linked to other thyroid-related diseases, but that they have not yet been able to prove a link between accutane and infertility. There are, however, actually more people like me out there than I originally thought. Being diagnosed with ovarian dysfunction has been a horrific, horrific blow. And while there was plenty of information about accutane and birth defects, no one ever mentioned a possibility of future infertility. I was a teenager! This is a tragedy and I believe something should be done about it. If you too have been affected diagnosed with infertility and have taken accutane, please email me. There are plenty of suits against accutance. If there are enough of us, we can come together to do the medical research and get the help we now need.
my daughter was also on this product and now she seems to be battling falling pregnant. I am beginning to think it stems from this
I was 15-16 years of age. And completed one full round of treatment.
I was 15-16 years of age. And was on it for one round (I think it was 6 months)
Wow! Either you are the one in fifty million who had this severe reaction to Accutane, OR you have some sort of panendocrine inflammatory/autoimmune disease that had nothing to do with the Accuatne but also caused the acne as a first manifestation.
Or your entire story is made up from whole cloth.
Perhaps an endocrinologist could help you, instead of blaming a drug you took decades ago.
How do you know you weren't sterile as a teen, before you took Accutane?
What about for guys.. I'm sterile and took accutane as a teen.
INATI, You don't believe that this drug can cause all of these problems because you haven't taken it. So go ahead, take it and then you can come back and praise it. Come back in 6 months after you stopped taking the drug and talk about how it didn't cause your dry skin, dry eyes, hair loss, low libido, tinnitus and digestive problems. Then in 1 year, how it didn't cause your back and joint pain. In 2 years, how it didn't cause your extreme fatigue and weakened immune system. In 5 years, how it didn't cause your Type 1 diabetes and hypothyroidism. Oh and how it has nothing to do with your infertility that you have now been diagnosed with too. In 10 years, how it has nothing to do with your inflammatory bowel disease that required your colon to be removed. In 15 years, how it has nothing to do with your inability to get out of bed because of the extreme weakness and excruciating pain felt throughout your body. In 20 years, how it has nothing to do with your degenerative disc disease, osteonecrosis of your jaw, and kidney failure. So go ahead and TAKE IT. Take it and don't blame your problems on some drug that you took 20 years ago.
I'm sorry for your loss, but blaming isotretinoin you took 25 years ago instead of an autoimmune problem you have now, seems somewhat illogical. Also at age 40, you chances of becoming pregnant with no health problems is 0.5% per month.
I took accutane as a teenager. I am infertile with only "normal" check-ups.Suddenly they think I have an issue with my thyroid or an autoimmune issue. I am 40 and now so many years have passed by with no explanation or information.
I am devastated.
If anyone has information or research on the medical side of achieving pregnancy please share. This has altered the history of my family tree, legacy and heart.
Isotretinoin use compromises fertility.

This is just one of many ways that the drug ages you at an accelerated rate. It is chemotherapy that has permanent side effects. Dermatologists will continue to stand behind this drug for some reason, but they will never give it to their own children.
Cadg- Be thankful you're not having all the problems conceiving, you're one of the lucky ones
I said it before, I took accutane for 7 years (I have 2 children, hard to conceive) now I'm my late 30's and pregnant again without looking for it... Sometimes you just don't know why it happens or why doesn't happen...
Why is there no need for truth?
There is no need for your comments
You are probably so far past the optimum age to get pregnant that age alone explains your problem. You can blame the isotretinoin, but your odds of getting pregnant are 0.5% per month.
I took accutane as a teenager. I am now 40 and have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years. I have tried 3 rounds of IVF but have not been successful. I was never told that accutane could cause fertility issues. I am just devastated and I do not have the money for donor eggs or adoption.
I took accurate when I was 16 (two sycles). And I have always felt that accutane most be the reason I can't get pregnant. The doctors haven't figured out why haven't been able to get pregnant. My husband and I have been trying for 9 years. I am the only one in my family to have fertility problems. I was never warned that it could cause problems down the road. If I knew then I would never have taken it.
Are you referring to research done in 2000 to now? Is that why you say there is no doubt? Cause they have always claimed no evidence.
Sounds like Sjogren's syndrome. See a specialist probably rheumatology.
I wonder if we could get a university interested in doing a research study on the effects of accutane. It would only need to be a basic statistical study: what percentage of people have infertility issues who took accutane, compared the percentage of people who did not. I just don't know how we could approach them and suggest that to medical departments at universities. A study like that would give us hard evidence that should be very persuasive in court.
