I took accutane almost 14 years ago as a teenager. I am now a 32 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with infertility that they believe is linked to autoimmune issues. I truly believe that accutane is the cause of this; from the research that I have done it seems that accutane has been linked to other thyroid-related diseases, but that they have not yet been able to prove a link between accutane and infertility. There are, however, actually more people like me out there than I originally thought. Being diagnosed with ovarian dysfunction has been a horrific, horrific blow. And while there was plenty of information about accutane and birth defects, no one ever mentioned a possibility of future infertility. I was a teenager! This is a tragedy and I believe something should be done about it. If you too have been affected diagnosed with infertility and have taken accutane, please email me. There are plenty of suits against accutance. If there are enough of us, we can come together to do the medical research and get the help we now need.

I too took accutane at age 20 and at age 22 was diagnosed with POF. No explanation. No children. Told the only way I can have children is egg donation. Truly believe it was due to accurate.

I took accutane at age 24. Also infertile. Had a successful ivf in 2009 only to have a very rare pregnancy complication (molar pregnancy along with healthy pregnancy). That molar pregnancy resulted in premature emergency c-section and our son died. No luck with fertility since even with multiple ivf cycles. I absolutely believe eggs are damaged with use of this medication. No way to prove it since fertility issues often don't present themselves until years and years later. We take it as teens and young adults and don't start families until later.

My son is 30 and just found out he is infertile. 0 sperm count!
Its insane! They don't deserve this!
He also took Accutane in high school.

Hi there, my sister is 38 and was on Accutane in her teenage years for quite sometime. She was diagnosed with Endometriosis many years ago and her and her husband have tried for many many years to get pregnant. She had Envitro a few years back but nothing took. She did end up getting pregnant once and had a miscarriage at 2 months. Her and her husband have given up!

my daughter took it when 20 she became pregnant just as she finished the course and was closely monitored throughout her pregnancy, thankfully a healthy child.years later came a miscarriage,then later ectopic pregnancy,she had her tube removed, After not being able to conceive she returned to hospital to find out that her other tube was also damaged no more children for her. Now her daughter aged 17 who also had the drug has just had an ectopic pregnancy and had her fallopian tube removed, AT 17 years old !!!! surely this is not coincidence, anyone out there know of any complaints/legal suits being carried out against the drug company?

Hello...I have been prescribed this drug two days ago. I have not started the course as yet .Reading these reviews terrifies me yet I need to do something about my skin as no antibiotics work anymore... I am so two minded

I'm sorry to hear about that Laurie. Thank s for the advice- I need to look at my diet and make changes.
Embroypathy, I am a 30 year old female. My acne flares up during and after my menstrual cycle- I experience about 3 cystic nodules at a time with other minor ones. I was on Ginette 35 for just over 10 years. It worked wonders for my acne. Left this pill in Dec 2013 and fell pregnant in May 2014. I had a miscarriage in July 2014 and ever since my hormones and skin are a mess. I'm currently taking erthromycin but its just not working - I have tried 3 types of antibiotics and no success with these. I feel like now I'm forced to make a decision between wanting a baby or having clear skin. When i have these painful flare ups , i get so miserable an down.I'm so stressed. I feel this medication is my last resort but seeing others experience here makes me think twice. The dermatologist mentioned that it doesn't affect fertility and prescribed the medication without even doing a blood test. I feel very nervous about starting and will definitely heed the advice given here whilst trying to make a decision. I don't have any children as yet and don't want to make a rash decision. Thanks guys

Do NOT take it. In the US, Canada, and UK it is against regulation to prescribe it without the administration of 2 pregnancy tests providing negative results. Your Dr cannot be trusted with this med. Isotretinoin is not appropriate for hormonal acne and per fda is only to be prescribed when there are 5 or more cystic ac ne that are the size of a pencil eraser. aLL the risks are too great otherwise, and re pregancy the risks are ALWAYS too great. Your children are more important than your appearance. No debate. Even if you take it, since your acne is hormonal it will likely return.

Thank you for the information Embryopathy. I was very surprised when the script was handed to me without any blood test up front. He did not even ask when was my last menstrual cycle etc. It was just stressed that I must not fall pregnant during treatment and was also given a script for Yasmin. I was told to come back for a follow up visit after one month and conduct a liver function test after one month.

You should read about spironolactone for hormonal acne before trying isotretinoin. If your doctor won't try it before isotretinoin in females, find someone who will.

There is a 42 million woman year study of spironolactone in human females from Denmark. The black box warning only applies to female rats, not women.

If you needed 3 courses of Accutane, one might infer that you have a severe inflamatory tendency that may explain the coiltis as well.

Guys!! There is one thing that doesn't make sense here. If accutane causes infertility it shouldn't be every posible kind of infertility. Here I see women talking about endometriosis, PCOS, miscarriages, inmune disease, unexplained, and so on... I'm just thinking all of us who needed to take accutane at some point was because we had hormonal problems. In order to get pregnant we have to have hormones in balance... It seems to me that might be more likely the reason we are having trouble getting pregnant (hormone imbalance)... What do you think?
