UpdatedWanted to break ambien in half but accidentally did it to my oxycodone 30mg instead. Is it dangerous to take half of a standard dosage?

It may release too much of the medication, at once, since OxyContin is a time released formulation. What I'd suggest in this case is just not taking that pill. How did you accidentally cut the wrong one?
Is there a non-nacotic prescription medication that I can take in place of Oxycontin for severe/chronic low back pain. I have just taken myself off Oxycontin because I felt it was doing more harm than good. I was taking 30mg twice a day. I have not taken any Oxycontin since last Thursday 8/16/12 and I'm a great deal of paid, in withdrawals including insomnia, vomiting, anxiety, confusion and general overall mallaise. Please please please help me. Thank you.
You will be fine mate. I'm not sure where some people are getting their information, but in the recent years OxyContin has only manufactured an OP version of the pill which features a chemical binding time release mechanism. You cannot break this time release, and cutting it in half will do nothing but half the original dose of the pill.
I have also been in withdrawal before make sure you get some potassium there is something that deplete it from your system and can put you into cardiac arrest. It has happened to bothy husband and myself.
Dr stated if you cut extended release in half then it's an immediate release. That information came directly from my pain management. You might want to call a pharmacist and just ask. Any pharmacy. But I am pretty sure it's true as I have been on this med for over 9 yrs.
So it's okay to take a op30 cut it in half and take half ? ...after reading online it seems like everyone tells me I will die lol .. Please inform
You have to specify what it your takin.. 30 mg oxycontin.. or 30mg Roxy codone?? Two different type deals if you break in half.. 30 mg oxycontin is now made differently.. a coating that doesn't allow to break time realease no matter what.. 30 mg Roxy will release the it quicker if broken in half
Re: Jack (# 6)
Yea you can cut an Op in half.. if you try to break it notice it's super rubbery. That's due to the junkies b4 that abused it. As long as it's not a 30 mg oxycodone then you're fine to break it in half. Yours is a 30 mg oxycontin.

have taken oxycotin for years post drastic surgery- think i mistakenly took 2 doses within 3 hrs. instead of 7 or 8 hours, 90 mg. is the dose. again, i may not have - i have always monitored closely and this is a first - since i am tolerant to this drug i am not expecting anything drastic to happen. should I be worried?
